New thread time.

We already have a thread to discuss services we are already currently using. This thread is to discuss best options for getting to a specific place without using other neighbouring airports.

As an example Mrs Aviador recently took on a new role and she now has some travelling involved. Obviously with me around I know all the direct options that are available but I'm probably not the best person to ask with regards to connecting flights.

So whether that be direct or with stops. What is the best way to get from point A (Leeds) to point B (destination)?

Last week she was in Paris and her company booked her on an easyjet flight out of Manchester. Not ideal at all when we live a stones throw from LBA surly there must've been better options from LBA?

Soon she'll be going to Frankfurt and already she is looking at the options as her company are so far only considering Manchester as a departure point.

Surely even without a direct option there must be better ways of getting to Frankfurt than spending nearly 2 hours on the M62 and the M60?

So if anyone can help here it would be appreciated and this also gives you an idea of how this thread can be used.

Frankfurt is really only practical over AMS, but it will probably cost a lot more than a direct flight from MAN (esp if comparing with Easyjet) and it will take longer.

Im going to Paris in June from Manchester simply because Jet2 from Leeds isnt daily. From MAN I am flying out one day at 06:00 and back very late the following day. Again, AMS is the only other option but its expensive and slower.

Leeds really needs more direct services to suit business travellers!

When I've done my own searching Ryanair via Dublin comes up for Frankfurt as an option. Is this really a viable option? I guess for the Mrs speed, reliability and flexibility comes over cost.

I know it is frustrating, but if just going to FRA or Paris I am afraid the only practical options would be direct from MAN. I suppose connecting using KLM is an option, but only if the timings work out well. For short distance destinations though, connecting is not really desirable.

Do also look at MAN. Living in north Leeds, NCL for me is further away than MAN but it is a much nicer airport so sometimes I will book from there.

KLM to FRA depending on the day and time are normally about £70-£100 pound more than Lufthansa direct, but when you factor in train to MAN, or mileage if your wife receives fuel cost per mile; then there is nowt in it.

Its a non starter. You wont get a through ticket- meaning if the first flight arrives too late to make the connection you are scuppered. You lose what you paid for the 2nd leg and be required to book a new flight. Also, I think FR may fly to Hahn rather than the main airport

Agreed.

It is the kind of risk I may be tempted to take for personal travel doing connections on separate tickets, or more complex itineraries with more connections than any sane person would think sensible.

However, when it comes to work travel my approach is the opposite and my attitude is work is not paying for me to mess around doing lots of connections or take risks with separate tickets. They want me to go somewhere reasonably promptly for specific dates to do something. Cost is somewhat secondary.

So yes, unfortunately I find I often have to head to MAN for work travel.

Has anyone tried Jet2 via Paris CDG? I know the not idea schedule but it could be done.

EasyJet do offer connections via Belfast Int'l

Not tried it myself, but been very tempted, You can do one-stop to London Heathrow or Newquay via Belfast City or Dublin on Aer Lingus/British Airways codeshare..

Jet2 wouldnt work as they are purely point to point, with the consequences I mentioned in my earlier post.

GoIng via an intetmediate airport only works if the carrier can offer a through ticket, so yes Dublin with Lingus would work but whos got the time for such a journey (it would also be expensive)?

At least going via AMS is in roughly the right direction for FRA.

Did anyone notice KLM offered only 1 departure on Wednesday? For your summer / winter holidays with Jet2, a weekend break with Ryanair or visiting friends with Wizzair etc, LBA is fine. For most business trips and anything remotely long-haul, the current offering is quite frankly hopeless. Lets hope the proposed infrastructure improvements go some way in addressing the current shortcomings.

Agreed, the business offering has been woeful for many years. I remember the days when just the opposite was true, albeit much lower overall movements.

My daughter recently booked LBA to FRA via AMS with KLM (so many acronyms!!),but KLM cancelled her flight due to the restrictions at AMS meaning no connection available (had she moved to a later flight). So, very much against her better instincts, she booked direct from MAN with Lufthansa, although the flight was operated by Germanwings A320.

I made the point recently about LBA and the absence of flights to FRA. It's ridiculous - and before anyone says that there's a problem securing slots at FRA or room in the terminal, Lufthansa have managed to start a new route this week to Belfast City.

I fly fairly regularly to Frankfurt and the extra runway has made a big difference to slots, and there is plenty of capacity terminal wise(especially non peak). It is Lufthansa and partners not committing to LBA and not seeing the potential. If they did an LBA FRA and/or MUC route they would not pull passengers from MAN and would grow market presence in the North of England. It is pretty short sighted IMO. I do think it is only a matter of time though before we do get it.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
