Media portray Leeds Bradford airport unfairly.

So the NIMBY woman interviewed on Look North tonight lives on the Scotland Lane estate. She complains bitterly about the constant noise. Maybe it is one of the BBC business editors neighbours!

This estate was built right at the end of the runway AFTER it was operational. What the hell does she expect? Why buy a house within yards of the runway lights and then whinge about aircraft. I hope these people know that the vast majority have zero sympathy and are laughing at them. Totally ridiculous .

As for the BBC, they made sure that one of the comments they selected to show was one saying DSA should be Yorkshire's airport and LBA should be closed. Maybe it was the Mechanic!

I remember when they were applying to extend the runway "years ago". They interviewed a lady who had moved to a house on Scotland Lane recently and said "when we came to look round the house there weren't any movements, so we thought it would be quiet".
Shouldn't you check the area before you move?

The T&A and associated Ilkley Gazette have a headline saying "Leeds Bradford Airport cleared for 941 night flights". Yet again this makes it look like the airport was operating illegally, and is only now allowed to operate 941 flights. I have been unable to open the link to read the full story as "they" see it.

Of course they have portrayed it this way. Heaven forbid that LBA should be shown to be not at fault.
However regardless of what is portrayed, it doesn't change the positive outcome for LBA, and that to me is the end of the matter as the anti-airport brigade can moan all they like but the decision is made in LBA's favour

I did and at no point did they mention the reality. Blatant negative report but what I have come to expect from that paper and reporter.

And did it mention thats because the Dof T is rolling out the relaxation of limits based on the type of security scanner installed - which LBA didn't choose themselves? Or did it make it sound as though LBA were somehow lagging behind, despite the fact that initially, they were one of the first to scrap the 100ml rule.

I dont subscribe either but was able to read the whole article via your link. It isn't negatively written. Just factual although it's lazy journalism as usual as they dont bother to find out or explain WHY LBA and 16 other airports still restrict liquids to 100ml.

Anyway, LBA is expecting approval to remove the restrictions later this year I believe.

To be fair, although the headline does single out Leeds (no doubt because it’s of local interest) it does go on to list all the other airports that still have to follow the old liquid capacity rules, including Manchester and Stansted.
