Oh dear WH you are taxing my memory now. This happened in the 70s.
As far as I can remember Common Land is open all people. Going back into history it is where the 'common man' could graze cattle and collect wood!
If I can find my Countryside Act book I'll have a look to see if there is anything of interest to pass on.
The nearest point you can get a car near Plane Trees Hill is park on the stub of Yeadon Moor Road, which is off Bayton Lane. This is also the exit from the south side- near the old emergency control tower.

Development on Common Land MAY be permissible if another piece of suitable land can be found
For me, the crux is whether common land has to be left as as an eyesore and wasted, which PTH is now. A few days with an earth mover to smooth it out and it could be turned into a nice, usable area, with either grass or wild flowers, snd where people could go to watch the airport or just sit and take in the view. There's no need to build a car park to make it usable, and landscaping it isn't really developing is it? Someone could still graze his cattle or collect wood. It's just a waste of space as it is and it's wrong that what was, and should still be, a public amenity is wasted by the council to stop anti social behaviour. Other options were available but apparently not even considered.

I agree. Someone should have a word with the local council members.- but I wouldn't hold my breath. It won't have any cycle lanes to promote.
Looking at the geology of Plane Tree Hill the soil is very shallow and there are outcrops of Rock. Near the Yeadon Moor Rd side it is almost marsh land. All a bit difficult and expensive to sort out out

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
