Yes planes make money (or do in theory at least) when they are flying. There wouldn't be the number of LCCs around as there are today if they couldn't maximise fleet use. The potential local employment impact of Draconian flight limits being upheld doesn't even bear thinking about. If the worst happened and Jet2 were forced to reduce, would this open up the door for someone like EZY (and possibly others) to come in with lots of away based flying I wonder. All may not be lost if in the unlikely event this does go against LBA
Typically speaking easyjet tend to get back at a more reasonable time, as do Ryanair. Of course you will always get delays which result in later arrivals, but Jet2 have expanded into night time flying because the slots at overseas airports are becoming harder to obtain, so with an aggressive expansion you need to start flying at less ideal times. Notice they quietly dropped the friendly flight times tag some time ago?

Im sure Ryanair would take advantage of early morning arrivals if the quota permitted. They dont get as much use out of their based aircraft as they could.

Ryanair tend to fly between 6am and 12 midnight so there flights would still count.
True, I think some might consider pre midnight as more acceptable than between 12 midnight and 0700. What I don’t get is how the noise is actually that bad when aircraft are on approach. Take-off I could understand, but I’ve stayed below the approach of a number of airports and have never even noticed when an aircraft is on approach. If the people complaining are those in Scotland lane and directly below short final then perhaps I could understand, but they will have purchased their house there knowing that there is an airport a short distance away. If you buy there you simply cannot complain about increased use at any time of the day.

I hope with the impartiality of the enquiry, it will fall in favour of the airport. Logic would dictate this would be the case. Even LHR doesn’t have such restricted operating hours and that is on the edge of a heavily populated area.

When i was younger we looked at a house on the Scotland estate late 90s and i love planes, flying etc but as an F27 flew past and i could see the pilot i had the foresight to think it's only going to get busier. So more fool the idiots that pay the prices on the Scotland estate.
Buy a house on river bank expect to be flooded!

These people are NIMBYS, end of. My outlaws live off Scotland lane. We stayed with them recently, admittedly the first 2 nights I noticed the aircraft. But Trust me, by night 3 your subconscious blocks the noise, I genuinely didn’t hear them.
At the end of the day these people will complain about anything for complaining’s sake.
The airport has been there for decades, it started getting really busy from the early 2000’s onwards really but don’t move next to an airport and then moan 24/7

Those I know on Scotland Lane are not so bothered about the noise, they like the neighbourhood and accept it. It seems to be more people in the Lawnswood area that are agitators.

I do believe that is true. I don't think many folk in proximity to the airport complain quite a few actually work there. Of course there is some background noise but I think the claims are grossly over stated and come from the wider area where aircraft are higher on approach. These folk seem to have connections with the Green and Just Stop Oil mafia as evidenced by many of the objectors to the new Terminal project not being from the local area. The local majority are silent as they don't feel they have anything to complain about - unless of course there's an article posted on facebook where the vast majority of local comments are are pro-airport.

Far Headingley has always been the HQ of the objectors, with plenty of student support in other parts of LS6, and many of these will s*d off home to other parts of the country when they've finished here. There seems to be an active anti LBA lobby at the University, as was clear by the list of objectors to the new terminal, with many 'doctors' of this, that, and the other, mainly with LS6 addresses, aided and abetted by buddies as far away as Southampton, who have probably never even been to Leeds. Sadly, some seem to have infiltrated the council / planning department judging by their actions in recent years, not to mention certain MPs leading the way.

And both students and staff will happily hop on aircraft for their gap years and holidays. Sheer hypocrisy.

I suppose we don't know that. What we do know is that for its last financial year, Leeds University registered £276m in fees from 14,400 international students. The university makes an annual surplus (profit) of £73m, so without those fees it would be screwed. And it's those fees helping to pay the wages of everyone that works at the uni, roughly speaking 30p in every £1 earned by a uni employee is paid for by international students. All of which of course is completely dependant on the global network of airlines and airports to get students (and presumably visits from their friends and families) here. But as most of these students arrive from far-flung destinations, they'll mostly arrive into Heathrow and Manchester and then take surface transport here. A win-win. The uni and its staff get the money, but none of them will be disturbed by the students flying in or out. Kerching !

For anyone interested, these are the prices per square metre of property in the North Leeds area + the wharfedale areas that have Leeds postcodes. The average for the whole city is currently £3.045.

Interesting how much of a premium many of the postcodes in the vicinity of the airport attract (the final column is the % premium vs the Leeds average). LS18 5 is the part of Horsforth that includes Scotland Lane, Troy etc extending about as far south as the station. Property in that area is about as expensive as Collingham, Alwoodley, properties adjacent to Roundhay park and in fact many parts of Harrogate.

As if to illustrate the point, this house has just gone on sale on Arran drive. It pretty much has the Rwy32 approach lights in the back garden, but can be yours for £650,000 - or £3,800 per square metre.

Great info thanks
But being sarcastic shouldn't this be in the property and valuation thread?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Joking

I see the group that should not be named have their begging bowls out again looking to raise cash so they can be represented at the public inquiry…..they’ve stated their successes in stopping the terminal development, omitting to mention it was the airport which pulled out and its expanded anyway…..Those who donate should really be asking what has happened to all the many thousands £ they have said they have raised in their previous campaigns!

My understanding is that although the inquiry in March is open to the public for viewing, it's not a normal public inquiry in which these people can state their case either themselves or using an anti airport legal bod. It's a legal matter, nothing at all to do with them. Either the airport are legally correct or the Council are.

It was LBA who informed me of this and if that's correct then the group that shall not be named are asking for money under false pretences surely?

Well according to the great unwashed “We have a top quality legal team to represent us at the inquiry, working for us at discounted rates, but we still need to raise £30,000”.
Seems they’ve appointed the same barrister who was a total failure when she represented them on the Councils planning enquiry in that she didn’t even know how to use video conferencing 🤣

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
