Why not, but do you really think he would actually listen, he is so anti LBA it’s unbelievable, he really need to be educated and not always listen to the group we won’t name

There's no doubt that if we contacted Spencer Stokes to tell him what we, the Support Group think of his biased reporting, the BBC generally, and they who shall not be named in particular, he would suggest being interviewed to provide an alternative, pro airport point of view, but almost certainly on camera. Therein lies the problem. Someone not only needs to scrub up well, and really know their stuff on LBA, they also need to be happy to be seen in public as a representative of a pro airport group. Until we have someone, we are destined to allow t'other lot the freedom of the airwaves, wittering on without ever being challenged. Ideally we need someone who is already a public figure that is happy to join the group and be our spokesperson.

Personally, I've been through this in the past, taking part in a public inquiry, drafting our speech for that, manning pro airport stands at the Great Yorkshire Show and Harewood House, and collecting nearly 18,000 statements of support for 24H operations, always incurring the wrath of the other lot who hated our airport, LACAN. I'm past all that now and so we need someone else to take the lead.

Some time ago, I posted that the time was approaching for me to stand down from the Consultative Committee after representing airport supporters for around 34 years at a guess. I asked for anyone who would like to take over permanently to message me. Nobody did, and there lies the problem. Supporting LBA behind the scenes on here is one thing, going to the next level and potentially in the public eye is another thing altogether, but it's the only way we will ever knock that other lot off the perch gifted them by the BBC.

Everyone really appreciates everything you do/have done @White Heather but without knowing everyone's own personal commitments I believe it is unfair to make it sound like no one wants to. I think there are multiple factors at play here and in my case I would be more than willing to do more but a combination of my personal circumstances coupled with my employers subsequent views prevent me making any massive committments. That said I am more than happy to help where I can

No, there has to be a single nominated person to represent the Support Group on the Committee, who has to be approved by the Chair. We can have a named alternate attendee to cover in the case of unavailability.

I haven't suggested nobody wants to. I'm simply stating a fact that nobody has put themselves forward to take over in the Committee, for whatever reason. There's no criticism. I'm fully aware that people who are working would have to take time off for meetings, as I myself did whilst employed. And it's the same with representing the group in the public eye.

Some of our historical highlights​

Since opening on the site in 1931, Yeadon Aerodrome still sits only 7 miles from Leeds centre and 9 miles from the centre of Bradford. Well known amongst locals, the spot holds the title as England’s highest airport with an elevation pf 681 ft.
Here’s a bit about how we took off:

• Leeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome opened on 17 October 1931, expanding to scheduled flights and by 35 acres in 1935.
• When the Second World War brought a halt to civil aviation in 1939 a near-by, camouflaged aircraft factory used the aerodrome to deliver planes to the war effort.
• Civilians were flying out from Leeds Bradford Airport again by 1947 and the 50s and 60s brought routes to Belfast, Düsseldorf and Dublin we still offer today.
• Work to extend the runway, create a tunnel to take the A658 beneath it and redevelopments of the terminal building were completed in 1985 upgrading the airport to regional status.
• Transatlantic flights to Canada were first offered in 1984 with Wardair. The first chartered Concorde landed in 1986 with an estimated 70,000 people there to see it.
• In 1994 we went open all hours meaning flights could use the airport 24 hours a day.

Recent developments​

In recent years, airport passengers have grown significantly from 1.2 million a year in 1997 to 2.9 million in 2007. Now welcoming over 4 million passengers a year, the airport plans to welcome 7 million a year by 2030.

AMP Capital (now InfraBridge) acquired Leeds Bradford Airport in 2017, bringing expertise and a successful track record of investing in airports globally within its infrastructure portfolio, to Yorkshire. Since then, the airport terminal has undergone significant improvement.

Our future​

As a regional airport our success is one we share with the Yorkshire region. We strategically plan our growth and development with the local economy, environment and stakeholders in mind.

To help achieve our ambitions, we have produced our ‘Route to 2030 Strategic Development Plan’ - which will see annual passenger numbers increase from four million to seven million by 2030. It’s an investment in the future of Leeds Bradford Airport and sits alongside our Surface Access Strategy.

Night flight information – CLEUD Applications​

In September 2023, LBA submitted five Certificates of Lawfulness for Existing Use or Development (CLEUD’s) to Leeds City Council, to clarify how the existing planning conditions affecting the airport should operate. Open letter from Vincent Hodder, Chief Executive Officer of Leeds Bradford Airport​

To our neighbours and local communities
Following various press coverage regarding night flights at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), I am writing to clarify and state that it is not LBA’s intention, nor has it submitted, any application or proposal for increased or unlimited night flights.

I understand that the incorrect and misleading information and statements made has caused understandable concern in our local community. To ease any anxiety, I would like to clarify the intention of our recent applications for Certificates of Lawfulness for Existing Use or Development (CLEUD) and correct the misinformation in circulation.
In the interests of full disclosure and transparency, the CLEUD applications can be viewed on our website. We have also prepared a Q&A available on our website which provides greater detail.

Some of the statements we have seen suggest that the granting of these CLEUD applications would lead to a huge increase in the number of night flights. This is absolutely not the case.

Contrary to speculation, LBA is not seeking to change the planning conditions that apply to the airport. The CLEUD applications will provide a determination and clarify how the existing planning permission, written nearly 30 years ago, should operate. This will allow LBA to ensure that it remains compliant with the conditions in a complicated and changing landscape.

Finally, to reiterate, LBA has not applied to increase night flights. I would encourage you to read the Q&A for further information.
