Schiphol, FNV and CNV reach agreement on pay supplement and structural improvements in the quality of work

Royal Schiphol Group, FNV and CNV have agreed on a follow-up to the social agreement for employees at the airport. With this agreement, Schiphol remains an attractive place to work and the quality of work is being further improved. The agreement comprises two parts: extending and then phasing out the labour market supplement on the one hand and structural actions and agreements regarding work at Schiphol on the other hand. The unions presented the agreement to their members.

All employees at Schiphol have a hugely important role in providing travellers with an enjoyable experience. We believe that everyone at Schiphol should be able to earn a living wage and that Schiphol should be a pleasant and inspiring place to work. That involves good terms and conditions of employment and a safe and healthy working environment. The agreement makes an important contribution to that.

Esmé Valk, HR Director at Royal Schiphol Group

Labour market supplement extended
The labour market supplement that Schiphol pays on top of the salaries of its employees at the airport is being extended to 31 December 2024. Security staff, cleaners and workers who accompany people with reduced mobility or in private bus transportation will receive an extra €1.40 gross for every hour worked until 1 September 2024. This is equivalent to around €200 a month for a full-time position. The labour market supplement will then be €0.70 from 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2024, when it will come to an end.

The ending of the supplement takes into account wage settlements for employees in collective labour agreements and the development of salaries, which will catch up with the amount that Schiphol pays. This catching up in collective labour agreements ensures that employees will not lose out compared to the current situation.

Structural improvements in working conditions
Schiphol, FNV and CNV have also reached an agreement regarding the structural improvement of working conditions. The agreements to improve quality of work at Schiphol will be anchored in principles for cooperation and a supplier code of conduct, which will apply between Schiphol and employers. These include the fact that commuting should not cost employees any money and they offer the possibility of setting minimum requirements or award criteria related to the quality of work in a tender for labour-intensive work.

The airport continues to work on improving rest areas and bathroom facilities, is taking measures that encourage maximum use of the security companies' own permanent staff, and in recruiting security personnel, the focus is on reaching women so that the male to female ratio is 50/50. In order to structurally improve working conditions at Schiphol, the parties will continue to work together on improvements in the social dialogue structure set up for this purpose.

'We have a nice and even improved agreement, which offers perspective to large groups of employees at Schiphol for a longer period. The labour market supplement will remain intact for another year, which could save around 200 euros a month. The agreement also contains important agreements on reducing the pressure of work and improving the work-life balance. There will be better rosters and a right to unavailability. We are satisfied with this.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
