They range from 25-27 years old so although well maintained like anything that’s knocking on reliability can be an issue, especially in view of their intensive use. Whether the recent problems were a one off or a trend remains to be seen but I suspect Jet2 will stick with the phased withdrawal of them over the next four years as you can’t just replace 7 aircraft at the drop of a hat.

Totally agree @Len Fish that they will continue with the plan all things being equal however I do feel they may have their hand forced a little if reliability issues continue. Once things start to the level they have this year then further problems can be prone to be even more regular. As we keep saying Jet2 don't usually get much wrong and these old workhorses certainly don't owe them anything. LBA CLEUD outcome could also start to play a part - who knows

Does that include the leases of the 2 A330's from Air Tanker? Or will they continue on high density routes for the summer months?

This was my thought exactly. Last summer they had an A330-300 with 388 seats on board and I'm pretty sure that they were going mostly full.

With 327 seats to replace that is a A321 and a B737-800 at the same time whilst that is more seats {{421 = 94 additional }} the question is does Manchester and other destinations have the additional capacity (runway slots etc) available?

As someone on the dried fruit forum - on certain days Jet2 send a A330, B757/A321 (sometimes x2) and/or a B737 down to some destinations (Palma, Tenerife). That is some capacity to loose when you need to replace 327 with 232 seats.

The way things are going with the anti tourist protests, demand for Spain may reduce all by itself .

Jet2 can't lease A330s forever. It's hugely expensive and if they didn't have an alternative plan for moving passengers without them, then they would surely buy them themselves instead of leasing. At some point, the A330 leases may well end and they will find another way.

The LBA based Boeing 737-300 fleet should be operating

Summer 2025 = all 7x remain in service
Winter 2025/26 = +2 retirements
Summer 2026 = 5x in service
Winter 2026/27 = +1 retirement
Summer 2027 = 4x in service
Winter 2027/28 = +4 Full fleet retirement
We must not forget though that these B733's are the thick end of 10 years younger than some of the still active 757's, and while in summer they get hammered like flying buses they're not usually overworked in winter

A couple of full economy A380s out of MAN would be ideal for high density routes, serious no joke! Demand and runway length is all there, bet there are some A380s out there!
For a multitude of reasons it would never happen, but let’s play with your idea for a minute. MAN being 380 capable could technically work but what euro holiday airports would they operate that monster into?

Furthermore, what would it operate in winter?

I see Jet2 founder Phillip Meeson has sold 5 million of his shares he owns in the in airline this week worth around £70 million, he has also sold his shares in Leeds/Bradford Airport.

The things folk have to do to pay their winter fuel bills!

Good point there, forgot about when the A380 gets to the other end, MAN is capable but yes the holiday airports would not be equipped and you cant really stick it on a remote stand, image all the busses you would need!
Does anyone know if any major holiday airports are A380 capable? Certainly not skiathos haha
An A380 in the jet2 silver and red livery would look the biz!

Wait, what? PM "has sold a tiny chunk of his Leeds Bradford Airport shares", how much of it does he own?

Interesting one, at a push I’d say probably PMI, LCA, AYT, AGP and possibly TFS & LPA… most won’t be compatible for passenger ops but could be certified for ad-hoc or diversions.

Come to think of it, LCA and LPA are definitely geographically good divert points for Europe - Middle East and Europe - South America.

Well one thing for sure we won't likely be seeing a Jet2's/Air Tanker Airbus A330's or any A380 for that matter at LBA anytime.

It looks like we are stuck with the Boeing 737-300's for a couple more years along with the Boeing 737-800's. Hopefully the new Airbus A321Neo's will start to make an appearance.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
