No Adam, you were denied the chance to experience the airport due to getting up late. If you had arrived at the recommended time you would have been through security in time to look around. All airports have security queues - whether you fly from LBA, LHR, MAN or wherever.

I totally agree WH! If you are an infrequent traveller, you should always leave yourself plenty of time in case you encounter an unforseen delay. Having justed typed this, it is good advise for any traveller.

Absolutely agreed White Heather, unfortunately Adam's post is a prime example of how a percentage of the public are always ready to blame something/someone else for them missing out on an experience rather than realising that they have some blame to attach to themselves - it's why those of us that work with the public get thoroughly fed up with it after a while.

Sorry i was just in a ranting mood that day id heard so many good things about the new layout and retail etc that i wanted to experience it for myself and through my own fault i couldnt. I was just shocked at the length of queue for security with or without been late it wasnt good. Hopefully maybe something that will be addressed in due course. Just means ill have to book another flight to see the airport!!

Welcome back from your holiday Adam.

Unfortunately, security doesn't make airports any money, it's seen as a necessary evil at most airports.

Well the fast track makes LBA £3 a go.

I told a lady immigration officer last week that they ought to slow down as nobody would use the Fast track.

I had chance to experience the new expanded departures area last month when I flew to Berlin.Compared to my last visit before improvements, when the Departure lounge resembled a war zone with people sat and laid on the floor/stairs,it was a massive improvement.

We decided to book into the Executive lounge, won't bother doing that again. Not much in the way of choice of drinks, just crisps or nuts to eat.My dentist's waiting room was more appealing and I have a phobia of dentists!.

Think it's about time they started the terminal expansion proper,ie filling in the horseshoe shape of the terminal building.

hi all
we have just returned from 5 weeks holls in spain,we spent most of our first day in the terminal at lba,9hrs plus delay still not enough seats in the terminal 175 airport seats only.not counting the cafes & bars,jet2 did there best for us food & drink wise the problem was getting the said food, the camden foods shed had nothing to sell the saltaire bar was full ( £11 pounds for burger) so we set off to walk back to the big camden food outlet at the side of burger king, you have to walk back thro duty free, against the people walking thro to departures and in places its very narrow, people sat all over the floor it all looks nice but does not work.

Hi Snowman 1,

It's a shame the airport is still letting itself down by not providing enough seating. The daft thing is, people are probably hogging seats in the bars and cafes preventing those who do want to 'spend money' from doing so. Revenues from these facilities could potentially be increased by providing sufficient seating else where. Annoyingly, a simple factor such as basic seating could make the difference between a customer recommending the airport to a friend (or not).

Sorry you had a poor start to your holiday Snowman. At least you had time to count the seats!! What was your arrivals experience like this time?

hi big man

return from agp on fri 12 oct was very good, the 737 was full and 25mins early, parked right down at the bottom end the buses were waiting for us,we were in the terminal in record time the cases were on the carousel when we arrived in the baggage hall.the only down side was the escalator to take you up to customs was not working AGAIN when asked why the jet2 person replied no one from the airport to switch it on.jet2 and the airport need to sort this out as this leaves a lot of old people to climb the stairs.

Not trying to be funny, but what is the difference between the aircraft steps and these in the airport? If they can manage one set, then they can manage another. For folk that struggle, I believe there is a lift they could use there.

I think the point is if it's there why isn't it working. I understand the escalator must be manned to ensure congestion doesn't lead to an accident on the escalator itself. If there isn't a staff member available the escalator can't be used.

the aircraft steps are few in number, the main point is the escalator to go up is hardly ever working the one to go back down is allways working

I know what you mean Snowman. The last time I flew in from AGP (a few years ago now), the corridor queue extended down the escalator and outside the building, so they had no alternative but to turn the escalator off.

Tom, you have obviously never had to go through an airport with one 88 year old and one 90 year old, and their baggage. Yes they managed the aircraft steps, but if there's an escalator to use, they would, not only because it's easier, but also because they don't want to hold everyone else up ! Not everybody who uses an airport is 25 years old & fully fit ! I think that one day, when you yourself are older you might think twice about such a statement. The point is, if it's there and in working order, it should be switched on.

I cannot recall ever entering arrivals at the escalator entrance with Ryanair.Only ever used the wide stairs.I have frequently seen people standing on the steps gasping for breath and, not only old folk.I saw two not so old guys gasping half way up the staircase a couple of weeks ago. One tried to tell me LBA is the worst airport in Europe.
I have a knee problem, an escalator is fine but steps are a problem especially the 30 or so on arrivals. The other alternative is for more people to ask for wheelchairs but many I assume don't like to do that. I am not aware of a lift near the first staircase.
For sure it will come to you one day Tom, you may not always be fit.

There are several passenger lifts down the first floor walkway. The first is near gate 10 and can be used to walk to stands 7 when the air bridge isn't being used and to reach stand 6. Next along is the escalator in question that is usually switched off. There is also a lift here. The location used for Dublin flight has a stairwell and a lift to immigration and then there's a lift and escalator back down to arrivals. The only place that doesn't have a lift or escalator is the stairwell near stand 8 between the first floor and the new ground floor walkway.

In a nutshell... Leeds Bradford sucks. One of the worst experiences ever. enough said.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
