New ATC procedures and frequency should come on line soon, subject to final CAA approval. 'Leeds Delivery' will be on 121.8 and will be used to allow ATC assistants to issue airways clearances. The move is designed to reduce workload on the ATCOs during busy periods. Aircraft will be handed off to Leeds Tower on 120.3 for start-up, push, taxi and take off. As part of the change, the approach frequency will change to 125.575 from 1st July. Leeds Delivery will only be used in peak periods and the ATIS will be used to advise when it is operational.

From what I've heard, the executive lounge will no longer be Servisairs, but will be run by the airport company itself.

I heard similar to craigston_tom. Apparently the airport have been wanting to take control of the lounge for some time. I am told the lounge will be getting a full re-fit before it's reopened by the airport authority.

Will this mean some jobs may become available shortly to help with this change in the tower?

No. It just means ATC assistants will be communicating with aircraft to issue airways clearances.

Glad to hear that finally some pressure will be taken off the Tower Controller. 120.3 does get saturated at peak periods so this should help. There will come a time when a full GMC position will be required but I expect this will wait until there is a parallel taxiway, or larger amounts of traffic.

On the downside, I never thought I'd be sad to see the end of a frequency but I am. 123.75 Mhz has been the Leeds Approach frequency for at least the last thirty years and now it's on its way out. To be fair many UK airports have seen frequency changes in recent years and until now LBA has been somewhat immune so I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Funny you should say that because I kind of missed the Manchester 124.2 when that frequency disappeared. It does sound daft but it will be odd without it.

Whilst we on this topic, i now miss the "Contact Manchester Control, on 133.8 Goodbye". This contact scotish doesnt have the same ring or flow to it...

There is currently an incident at LBA. The emergency services are in attendance. Arriving aircraft are holding overhead.

The Cessna Citation aircaft has overshot runway 14 on landing and one of its engine caught fire. 2 people have been rescued from the aircarft.

Two rescued as aircraft overshoots Leeds airport runway

Two people have been rescued from a light aircraft after its engine caught fire and it overshot the runway at Leeds Bradford airport.

The Cessna Citation jet came off the runway at about 1750 BST on Monday, the fire service said.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said there had been a fire in one of the plane's engines.

He said crews had helped two people from the jet. Neither are thought to have been seriously injured.

The spokesman said: "We were called out to a Cessna Citation jet which had overshot the runway and the starboard engine was on fire.

"There were two people on board and our airport fire crews got them out."

Along with the disappearance of 126.65!

I wonder if the citation jet would have come off the end of the runway if it had taken off at Manchester?

Just looked at the picture on the BBC news and it is N646VP which I saw sat on Multiflight East on Sunday afternoon. Just glad they both got off safely.

Typically, someone has to have an instant dig at the runway length don't they Guest!!

Yesterday, the Cessna citation jet which crashed recently at LBA was removed via crane and low loader haulage truck, in the evening around 1900. N646VP, was loaded onto a truck, then taken down the runway and exited the airfield by Multiflight.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
