Fantastic news for Leeds/ Bradford Airport, Slight Runway extension,More Apron space developed , Multi storey car park and maybe a Covered Pier to the aircraft, Ah i am dreaming again although it would be good if they could spend 100 million pounds on the Airport rather than 80 million -Ha Ha-

Further to brititania020 post on the Airport spending 80 million pounds, what developments will happen with this money? As I understand the terminal is going to cost around 28million pounds not sure as to how much the additional long stay car park is costing, which is under construction at the moment. Does the money include phase 2 of the terminal building extending from the existing building which ends at stand 9 as well as more apron space? If this has been mentioned in an earlier post which I have missed please forgive me.

You're getting carried away with yourself T67A. Bridgepoint, the owner of LBA also owned the pet shop chain Pets at Home. Yesterday Bridgepoint sold the pet shop chain for a whopping £955m. My comment about them now having the money to spend was just a 'tongue in cheek' comment because we haven't seen a great deal of money spent at the airport, well not yet anyway. Lets hope they can now concentrate their efforts on LBA and get the show on the road. :coco:

I was listening to Minster FM today whilst in Scarborough, and there was quite a decent radio advert that came on advertising Leeds Bradford - the airport, not the airlines. It highlighted the new car parking, new bus drop off, new routes including Gatwick with Long Haul connections via AMS and BRU, and finished by advising how to book car parking and what the web address was. I have never heard an advert such as this for the airport before, so perhaps Bridgepoint have some marketing up their sleeves.

I must say that LBA is one of the worst marketed airports anwhere. Watch Footy on TV and you will see ads for DSA in South Yorkshire, EMA in South Yorkshire and the Midlands, etc, but there are no ads for LBA at any of the West Yorkshire grounds. There was one painted on the top of the West Stand at Elland Road in the early 90's, a tiny bit of which is still visible poking above the adverts that eventually covered it up. I really do think that the airport should do more advertising in and around the region and particularly where there is a captive audience often exceeding 30,000 such as at Elland Road. If we had such ads, LBA would recently have been seen on TV in Australia when the World Club Final took place. I can't imagine why they have not done this?

Is leeds/bradford getting its own police station?. i was in the city centre today and past one of the guys on the stands selling the yep and the headlines was local airport to get its own police station?

not sure which local airport but i guessed it was leeds

May have something to do with the follow press release which has been on the airport's website since late last week.

Neighbourhood Officers Get New Base At Airport
5 March 2010

A new base for neighbourhood policing officers has been officially opened at Leeds Bradford International Airport.

The Airport Neighbourhood Policing Team now has a dedicated office on the Yeadon site, which has been provided rent free by the airport’s management.

Previously the team, which consists of an inspector, a sergeant, eight police constables, and three police community support officers, reported for duty each day at Otley police station and had to travel to the airport to conduct its business.

But now officers will be on site from first thing in the morning to late at night at their office at Unit 7, Wharfedale Walk, off White House Lane.

Assistant Chief Constable Jawaid Akhtar joined Carl Lapworth, Operations Director at LBIA, to officially open the new facility yesterday (4/3) alongside representatives from businesses and the local community.

The accommodation has been fitted out with computers linked to the police network and includes locker facilities and a public waiting area.

Inspector Adrian Barnes, who heads the Airport NPT, said: “The opening of this new office is a massive step forward in the policing of the airport which will bring significant benefits to passengers, staff, businesses and local residents and also brings us in line with other regional airports that have an on-site police presence.

“It means officers will be more accessible and visible at the airport site which is one of the commitments we have made to people under the Policing Pledge. The team is now much better positioned to provide reassurance and support to people using the airport as well as providing a visible deterrent against crime and anti-social behaviour.

“It also gives us the facility to hold regular weekly surgeries where anyone living or working in the area of the airport can come along to the office and discuss any issues they have with us.”

Carl Lapworth said: “We recognise that the Airport Neighbourhood Policing Team plays an important role in working with the community. The move enables us to strengthen this important partnership with the police to benefit both our customers and local residents.”

Public surgeries will be held at the office every Friday between noon and 2pm.

Alex Reid from Leeds was officially recognised today (Friday 19th March 2010) as Ryanair’s ‘greatest fan’.

Alex, 17, from Garforth has flown with Ryanair over 20 times in the past 18 months to destinations across Europe. He was treated to a VIP behind the scenes tour at Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) before being greeted by Ryanair cabin crew on a Dublin bound plane.

As the countdown to the launch of Ryanair’s 14 new routes from LBIA commencing on the 25th March draws nearer, Alex is already planning his next flight.

Alex said: “I always fly with Ryanair as they have the cheapest prices and a great choice of destinations. The new routes launching at LBIA are brilliant. Its opened up so many new possibilities as to where I can fly next and I will definitely be booking myself on a few flights. Over the summer I’m looking forward to visiting Knock in Ireland and Malta from LBIA.”

Alex’s favourite destinations include Dublin, having been there 6 times on day trips, and Lanzarote for the beaches and great weather.

Alex’s Top Five Destinations with costs:
Dublin: 2p return
Cork: 5p return
Barcelona (Girona): £4.50 return
Lanzarote: £40 return
Alicante: £40 return

He added: “I’ve travelled around Europe, thanks to Ryanair’s flight offers. Fares have ranged from just 2p return to Dublin to a £40 winter sun holiday to Lanzarote with my family.”

Alex is currently studying for a HND (Higher National Diploma) in Aviation Operations at the Aviation Academy, Yeadon and is hoping to eventually train as a pilot.
Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director at LBIA said:”As Yorkshire’s Gateway airport we’re delighted that Alex will now be able to take advantage of a wide selection of great value Ryanair flights from LBIA. There’s now even more choice available from your local airport.”

Ryanair’s Laura McCormack said: “Ryanair is delighted to welcome Alex on board our flight to Dublin today and we look forward to seeing him on one of our new 14 routes starting next week from LBIA”.

Ryanair’s 14 new routes from LBIA are: Carcassonne (France), Faro (Portugal), Ibiza, Knock (Ireland), Krakow (Poland), Limoges (France), Malaga (Spain) Malta, Montpellier (France), Murcia (Spain), Nantes (France), Palma (Mallorca), Pisa and Venice Treviso (Italy). In addition to existing flights to Dublin, Alicante and Barcelona Girona.

An online travel blog, written by Alex, will be available on the LBIA website over the summer, detailing his latest travel tips and Ryanair destinations guides.

I think he's missing out his £5 per flight booking fee, baggage fee, credit card fee, advanced boarding, check in fee, tax etc etc!

I was going to go to Dublin for the day for £20 return. It soon came to about £42 with these add ons and I thought bugger that! (it was a tax free offer)

We know the low prices are what attract the customer in the first place, but nowadays I'm just not prepared to be told one thing and then pay so much more for a service which is average at best, and a service that takes you somewhere quite some miles from the city it says on your ticket!

Jet2 anyday! Having said that I will happily fly for them if they employ me in the future!

ryanair are great and i have flown with them many a time. i have no complaints and on the balance of things i would say they edge jet2.

I couldn't agree more. The thing is, we're not stupid, Ryanair's been around for long enough now that everyone knows they charge a load of extra fees, and I'd much rather just be told up front how much my flight is going to cost - and that's putting aside the fact that Michael O'Leary seems like a most unpleasant character with an airline notorious for poor customer service. I flew with BA a few years ago to Geneva and it was so nice knowing that the price on the page where I picked my flights was going to be the same as the price I paid when I got to the checkout. I accept there are some things that these days can be considered 'extras' - the baggage thing always seems ridiculous to me as I never go abroad without a suitcase, but I can see that some people can make do with hand luggage. But the one that really gets me, and it's something Jet2 does (at least time I flew with them), amongst others, is to charge a fee for checking in online! I mean fair enough, try and cut costs by charging people to check in at the airport and encourage them to check in online, but don't then charge me a compulsory fee for doing so! I'd rather they just added a fiver to the cost of the flight to begin with! [/rant]

Suggest this flight was to see the Nothern Lights

Yep it was a Northern Lights Charter operated by Jet2.com's, Boeing 737-300 G-CELF.
Cheers, yeah the 'Guest' post was me, didn't realise I wasn't logged in at the time. I actually answered my own question a couple of minutes after posting that message when I looked in the 'Movements Log & Heads Up' thread. In actual fact, I've also just been able to answer another question (Re: the BA flight to LHR) by looking in the same place :)

Okay, but did you read all the positive reviews. Recently spent some time at a Spanish airport and found Newcastle and Teesside people prefering to fly with Jet2 and from LBA!

Are my eyes deceiving me, or was the 17:26 FlyBe to Southampton painted grey? It definitely looked different somehow.

This evenings flybe Southampton service BE703N/5CK was operated by Dash 8-Q400, G-ECOV.

I've just done a web search of here and it shows her waring just the normal flybe colour's. So it must have been somrthing with the bad light we have at the mo. with these rain showers passing over.

One of the Flybe Dash 8's is painted in a livery where the pale blue is replaced by green, and that was in one day last week. Anyone know which aircraft it is that carries this colour scheme?

I believe that the Dash 8 in question is G-JEDP. This wears the eco livery promoting the good fuel economics of Flybe's fleet of Dash 8's and ERJ190's. Funny though that because of all the extra paint on this aircraft it is actually Flybe's least environmentaly friendly Dash 8's!!

I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
