Well in my honest opinion half of that programme was a load of bulls**t, mind the language, honestly LBA should have not FEATURED in the programme at all there was no need the pilot said he had intended to do a flyby and so he did, they just spruced it up to make it look more dramatic and scary for the audience.

Must admit though the Hudson river did deserve number 1 spot, don't know about the Thomson aircraft at Manchester, don't see how that was the 2nd most dangerous landing when there was the LOT airlines 767 with no landing gear only coming at 5th, that would have been more scary than the Manchester Thomson 757, sure the aircraft was under pressure with one engine doing the work of two engines and they had to commit to flight but still don't see how that was 2nd!!

The Thomson one was pathetic. Engine failure happens quite a lot every year.
I have been on a flight with engine failure. There was no drama.

My comments exactly, I re-watched the LBA part this afternoon and I did notice this last time, he approaches from 14 then lands on 32, if my memory serves me correctly, I am sure they (the pilot & ATC) did this on purpose to surprise the crowds?

Yes, the whole thing was planned. Part of the reason for the fly by was to wow the crowd of 40,000+, and party for the captain to assess the wind strength and direction. It wasn't unusual for this to happen. At the time, it was quite common for the 'first' of an aircraft type or airline to do a fly by before landing. I think the BA 747 'Spirit of Yorkshire' did the same on 4th November 1984 when the runway extension opened. On the day of the the Air France Concorde, I was standing next to the taxiway on to the apron, on the grass, and we knew before the flight arrived that there would be a fly past.

During March the airport will be taking over a floor at Leeds City Library in the city centre for a an exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary. There will be a VIP day on the 14th with a presentation / update from the airport CEO.
It is open to the public from the first week in March

No need really as it's in the 'general' thread but I can copy and paste your post into the photo forum for you.

Lovely shots, I'm impressed. What do you think of the new Jet2holidays livery?

Do you have those pictures without the date running across the bottom?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
