“If we get to seven million passengers by 2030 that will be 12,000 jobs. The impact would be enormous,” Mr Rees said.
The likes of Thunberg are totally unconcerned about the economic effects of their blinkered actions. Let’s hope Leeds City Council are more enlightened.

Greta Thunberg was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism.

One medical website descrption says that sufferers ".........are just as smart as other folks, but have more trouble with social skills. They also tend to have an obsessive focus on one topic".

That seems to fit this young lady to a tee. In that sense I do have sympathy because we can all suffer from medical issues that we can do little about. It's those people who are manupulating her knowing her condition that I despise.

As you all know I am one huge fan and supporter of LBA but it is clear to see where LBA sits in the pecking order for most airlines. Loganair, Eastern, Blue Islands, Aurigny all announcing new routes from other airports. Ok I get Flybe didnt serve LBA to CI so and we already have GR on GCI but the reluctance of T3 and LM to not consider BHD is beyond me. Unless of course there is any truth in the red or orange interested in BFS. The one plus we may see on our SOU route is that fares from other localish airports may not now be that much cheaper. And no one can use COVID-19 as a non start excuse because routes are being launched from elsewhere. Yes its serious but it applies worldwide, not just at LBA.

I wouldn't agree with that, its not just Leeds/Bradford that hasn't had ex flybe UK domestic routes replaced by the likes of Loganair, Eastern Airways, Blue Islands and Aurginy
The are still plenty of gaps to be filled, just ask the managers of Southampton, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast City, Newquay & Cardiff airports.

After today's budget we now know the is going to be a review into Air Passenger Duty tax in the spring of this year by the Government.
But as expected nothing has changed for UK domestic and short haul flights. It has actually been increased for long haul flights, £2 extra in economy and £4 extra in Business/First class. Its a shame that this increase is happening right now as won't help airlines like Tui, British Airways & Virgin Atlantic.

I'm sure somebody will eventually in time step into replace the Leeds - Belfast route. 120,000 passengers a year is not to be sniffed at!
Like I said yesterday the was rumour posted elsewhere of easyjet, but it was also mentioned they were holding back announcement due to the Cronavirus situation we are in.

Even better news this afternoon is the announcement in the budget that the Government has agreed to fund the £1.8bn West Yorkshire Devolution Deal. Hopefully once we have our elected mayor in place by May 2021, he/she will back Leeds Bradford Airport just like the Tees Valley mayor is doing right now for Teeside Airport..

LBA Needs to get on with building this new terminal then when airlines start to pull themselves back together again re starting routes as well as new routes with its new terminal LBA would be seriously looked at!
Let’s hope the current situation does not delay the planning application and process, but at least it’s got Greta Thunberg PLC off the streets.

The money is there and if given the go ahead it will create 100s of jobs for at least a couple of years whilst the construction is going on ( new terminal, knocking down the old,new apron etc etc) then after that many new jobs within the airport and local area should occur, but we must not forget we are dealing with LCC Here!

One advantage in carrying on (assuming approval given), is that construction companies will be keen to get the contract and tender a really competitive price.
Also, given the uncertainty surrounding the local economic impact, Leeds City Council wont want to potentially put jobs at risk.

£15 million investment fund for LBA is pocket money to them. Have you seen how much AMP Capital is worth?

AMP Capital
now manages A$17.3 billion (FY 17: A$12 billion) on behalf of 302 direct international institutional clients. Its real assets business, including its infrastructure equity and debt strategies, contributed to strong external net cashflows of A$4,219 million following a record year in FY 17 (A$5,477 million).

My worry...AMP is an investment company and its lifeblood is investors and shares. Any downturn in these will mean all of AMPs investments will catch a cold.
Whilst that might be true, AMP shares are likely to bounce back after the coronavirus has passed. AMP will be well aware of the long term outlook in the aviation industry and they will be aware of how the aviation industry has recovered after previous major events such as 9/11 and other major global events.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
