If BMI regional does dis continue the route, it would be great to see Flybe take over the route, if not them directly loganair would be the next ideal to operate it on there behalf and if not Flybe at all, eastern airways would be ideal, That just my tuppence worth.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Northern Lights - New Route

This has just caught my eye on http://www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk site:

[textarea]Get closer to the Northern Lights with a new flight from LBA

Hurtigruten launches Northern Lights cruise from Leeds Bradford Airport

For many, seeing the Northern Lights is a ‘must do’ on their wish list, and thanks to Norwegian cruise specialist, Hurtigruten, it just got even easier for the people of Yorkshire to fulfill this once-in-a-lifetime dream. A new one-off charter flight has been launched on 25 January 2012 direct from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to Bergen which ties in with a 12-day cruise along the Norwegian Fjords, where the Northern Lights are regularly spotted during the winter months. This is the first time Hurtigruten has offered cruises with flights direct from Leeds Bradford.

The cruise is a 12-day voyage from Bergen in the South to Kirkenes in the far north of Norway, just a few miles from the Russian border. The ship will call at 34 ports along the way, most of which are never visited by the larger cruise liners. There is no better way to experience the Northern Lights than by sailing through the sheltered coastal waters of Norway, on board a Hurtigruten as the Northern Lights are set against a dark sky, free from artificial light. It is also widely reported that this winter is expected to be one of the best years for solar activity and therefore spotting the Northern Lights.

In addition, throughout the 12 days, a wide range of winter activities can be enjoyed with everything from snowmobiling and husky dog sledging to a trip to North Cape or a Lofotor Viking feast.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s Commercial Director, said: “We are delighted that Hurtigruten has introduced this very special cruise package from Leeds Bradford Airport. Passengers will be able enjoy a fabulous Winter Wonderland cruise and also have the chance to see nature’s natural firework display, the spectacular Northern Lights. It’s an un-missable, once in a life-time holiday experience.”

Thought it would be good to share it with you all.

This should be a very good start, for the Airport to commence its 'connections' to the Scandinavian Market. I hope it's a great success and many people start voicing their opinion for more flights to the Scandinavian area.

During the period when we were changing the forum and moving it to a dedicated server I asked for people to come forward with ideas. One person suggested the return of the forum banners.

I've added a KLM banner on the top of the LBA forum. It can be altered whenever. If anybody would like to see their own banner on the top of the LBA forum send your 650 pixels X 90 pixels banner to me via the PM system or by e-mail to [email protected]

I'd like to know what people think of the new banner? Do you like the idea of having a forum banner or do you think it reduce the usability of the forum? Your feedback is most appreciated.

Why not. The KLM (or any other airport related) pic adds another dimension to an otherwise (avatars excepted) totally text based page.

Would it be a good idea to include some info about the pic directly underneath it, limited to x words?

Thanks for the feedback airforced. Sure, pictures where I have any details I'll add them either to the banner itself or underneath the banner in text form.

Does anyone know why the LBA arrivals display is showing a Qatar Airways flight QAF011 from LHR, and a British Airways BA4510 from MONTICHIARI. i know the Naples flight is scheduled in for today by BA but didn't know these are. is it a computer glitch or are these actual flights arriving at LBA?

It's not a mistake - LBAspotter mentions them on the "Movements Log and Heads Up" forum. I watched the Qatar flight land on the Multiflight webcam.

The aircraft was, as Lbaspotter posted on the Movement Logs thread, Qatar Airways' Airbus A320CJ, A7-MBK. She is currently at LBA on stand 22 facing the Golf Course.

It was nice to see British Airways, Pakistan International and Qatar Airways all on the deck together.

[textarea]New food outlet at Leeds Bradford Airport

An Indian and Pakistani food outlet is to open at Leeds Bradford Airport. A M Kitchen & Bar Group have unveiled AM Express, which will offer a range of Indian inspired light bites, wraps, paninis and traditional curries.

AM Express will be located at the entrance to Check in Hall B and will be initially open from 11:00 to 22:00 on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. This will compliment the twice weekly PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) flights from Leeds Bradford Airport to Islamabad, with Halal food now available to customers.

Atif Malik , Chief Executive. of AM Express said: ‘We are delighted to offer the first dedicated Halal catering outlet at a UK airport. Our aim is to offer an innovative menu, serving freshly prepared, flavoursome and healthy Indian food designed by our award winning chefs’.

Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said; ‘We are pleased to extend our choice of food at the airport to offer a delicious Indian menu, perfect as a pre or post flight express dining option, whilst at the same time widening the choice for our business and leisure customers.’

My mind drifted to thinking about people who request wheelchair assistance at airports after we were delayed at PMI recently. Once we finally boarded the Captain apologised for the delay saying that there was a shortage of ambilifts and that had delayed offloading. We then had a further delay while we waited for three wheelchairs to be loaded onto our flight back to Leeds.

Whilst not wishing to cast aspersions on the unfortunate people who need this sort of assistance (I hope I never do) I couldn't see any obvious reason why 2 of the 3 people boarding via the right hand door couldn't have made it up the steps like the rest of us. Before anyone has a go at me I know visual appearance isn't the be all and end all of whether or not someone is able to board with the masses. I'm just engaging in a thinking out loud exercise thats all.

Hence my question for the ones here who deal with this sort of thing on a day to day basis. Are there any standard procedures adopted by airlines when wheelchair assistance is requested, eg medical certification etc and do any airlines (with the probable exception of MOL's lot) charge for this service? Furthermore, is there any evidence, anecdotal or not, which suggests that requests for wheelchair assistance are abused? I suppose and additional question has to be, is wheelchair assistance ever refused, and if so, on what grounds?

Airfored your right though in what you say. When I'm at work, i'm sometimes actually shocked at how many of them, get up out of the 'special board wheelchair' come upto the counter order some food & a drink and carry it back to there own table.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
