I wrote to the editor of the Wharfedale Observer recently expressing my concern about their lack of positive coverage of the airport.

This is the reply I got:

Just to assure you we have no agenda here at the newspaper – good news stories and bad news stories, we’ll attempt to cover them.

That’s why we have run stories on LBA from both sides in the Observer – in print and online in recent months.

The PR from the airport is pretty hit and miss as it happens but we’re working on that so we can keep our readers abreast of any updates from LBA.

They could have fooled me. That rag has always taken a negative stance regarding LBA. In the past they have always put a bad news slant on good news too.

That’s a typical bog standard reply they’ve given you. I’ve never seen much positivity from them. They’ve always been on the negative side of stuff regarding the airport. Obviously saying that to keep you happy and satisfied that they’re not anti airport when they clearly are.

Oh hell, Tracey b****y Brabin is on Question Time. I wonder if she will get through the programme without mentioning buses and cycling? I wish someone off here was there to embarrass her about LBAs terminal, and her failure to support it, but alas, no. It's at Scunthorpe - so not sure why she's even on!

Update. She went on about what she's done for buses within 10 seconds of her first contribution. And got stopped because what she was saying about Zahawi was borderline libellous in the absence (yet ) of proof. She's embarrassing. Oh, and she complained about Rishi Sunak flying to LBA. All within 20 seconds - none of it related to the question. God help us if she gets a second term in office.

I've said before, Tracy Brabin changes with the wind. Whichever way the political wind is blowing she follows it. Remember the silence during the planning application for a new terminal. Remember how she then said she was disappointed to see the airport application being withdrawn. Now she says Rushi shouldn't be using a private aircraft to get to Leeds. Well he needed to because public transport is so abysmal and he had no chance of getting to Leeds and doing the things he needed to do in the time frame he had. Between them, neither of them or their political parties have done anything to sort out this shambolic transport mess. I honestly wouldn't know who to vote for right now.

I've not seen last night's BBC Question time programme, so can't really comment on it.

But I'm really not surprised by some of the reactions of our esteemed mayor Tracy Brabin on here. She didn't do much earlier this week at The Conference of the North either.

Useless & Andy Burnham best friend comes to mind, she just follows his word on everything. So whilst he gets things done over hill, she's just all talk and gose on about buses sadly..

Like him or not Andy Burnham does get things done and gets the money to do them, he’s got political clout. Meanwhile Tracey Breadbin is a political lightweight and all we get on this side of the Pennines are the crumbs falling from the top table. Her lack of support for the new airport terminal and the economic benefits it would have brought to the whole region was a disgrace.

Just for interest, as it might well have happened at LBA, Bristol has won it's court case and the green lunatics that have links to our anti airport brigade, lost their case to block Bristol's expansion. So they can expand to 12m pax per year. More than 3 times what LBA currently has .
One of a series of court victories for aviation against the greenies, yet, despite that, Michael Gove couldn't make a decision on our terminal.

If i was part of LBA management i would still of gone down the public enquiry avenue towards the approval of the new shiny terminal. Since coke face himself gove ordered a public enquiry so much has happened since then inc approving the reopening of a coal mine and recently the government has set out plans of levelling up the north (or possibly just the NW) and of course todays excellent news out of BRS. Our government simply has no clear direction at the moment so you never know what the outcome might be!
The current plans and designs for the 1960s terminal im sure will look pretty decent, but its just no way good enough for our region, plus the bad stigma will always remain, also we talk about 7m pax in the future but you need apron space for that volume of flights. Apron expansion going to commence at any point? It certainly needs to!

The apron isn't full at any time other than overnight.
The airport masterplan shows the number and location of proposed apron extensions, and as you know, they have said all along that they will be built when they are needed. If the terminal works lead to a demand from based carriers for additional based aircraft, which need more stands, then that is when they will build them. Right now, additional based aircraft can't be accommodated due to terminal capacity limitations, so more stands are not necessary. Maybe nice to have, to make the parking a little less messy, but not critical, and at the moment they have other issues to deal with and other priorities to spend their money on.

It's a reasonable assumption that once the terminal is completed, flights will increase, based aircraft MAY increase, and if they do, more stands will be constructed. Dont forget that some increase in capacity could be brought about by simply replacing 148 seat 737 300s with 220 seat A321s, or the increased use of non based aircraft. That would, over a year, make quite a difference to passenger numbers, but would probably require no further stands. LBA management will simply react to whatever Jet2 , Ryanair, or other carriers plan for LBA.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
