Reading the Wharfedale Observer.I've lost my thread on this. Exactly what is it referring to?
Ah...OK. There's one other person, Lancashire answer to Greta Thunberg, namely Barry Wheatpeas.Reading them Wharfedale Observer.
Not recently, but Barry is insistent there's a 5m cap.My bad. I forgot about her. She joined Forums4airports but didn't feel welcome so left on her own accord. I understand given her 50% contribution to the Wharfedale Observer readership, they welcome her with open arms. @LBAYORKIE have you told her LBA are pushing ahead with their plans to achieve 6.8m. Granted it falls just short of the 7m originally planned so perhaps we should congratulate her on her achievement.

70 commercial movements today. I can't remember that many in the past in early February. Ever!Got to admit over the past few days the Airports Arrivals & departure boards have started to look a bit more healthy what with all the extra Jet2 flights starting.
I posted an article in the Airlines thread a couple of days ago. There's some discussion in the sane thread on the subject. The Administrators of FlyBe have requested a temporary Operators Licence with conditions. Also by coincidence Lufthanser and Air France are looking at taking FlyBe over for the Heathrow slots!
Winter at LBA has always seen far less flights compared to other similar sized airports but times seemed to of changed! Im pretty certain we will overtake EMA and LPL and closing in on NCL this year when it comes to pax figures.70 commercial movements today. I can't remember that many in the past in early February. Its certainly very encouraging.Winter at LBA has always seen far less flights compared to other similar sized airports but times seemed to of changed! Im pretty certain we will overtake EMA and LPL and closing in on NCL this year when it comes to pax figures.
It good to see the airport so busy at this time of the year.70 commercial movements today. I can't remember that many in the past in early February. Ever!
Passenger wise it is where the West Yorkshire airport should rightfully be in terms of population density surrounding the airport. I really don't understand why Newcastle or East Midlands are as busy as they are to be honest.Im pretty certain we will overtake EMA and LPL and closing in on NCL this year when it comes to pax figures
EMA must be impacted considerably by BHX, but it's still the main go to airport for Nottingham, Derby and much of Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. It good to see the airport so busy at this time of the year.

The problem is, that no catchment area stands alone. The closeness of English cities (and therefore airports), results in a significant overlap of catchment areas. Airports that have already tapped the market are most likely to retain those services, whilst for airports that are underserved, it's going to be an uphill struggle to persuade airlines to start services. My own beloved BHX should be handling at least twice the 10M pax that it currently does, but too many people are happy to travel down the M40 to LHR (and to a lesser extent up the M6 to MAN - although, the M6 between Birmingham and Manchestr is an absolute nightmare), to get long haul flights. The airport that stands out as not doing so, is LBA. Our airport should, based on catchment area, be handling in the region of 8-10m passengers annually, notwithstanding that airport in t'other side of the Pennines. Even our long awaited terminal development won't bring us up to where we should be.
Let's hope the marketing team are doing their job in the background. At 1.25pm today, as I walked near LBA, there was just 1 Jet2 737 300, presumably the broken G-GDFM, on the apron. Nothing else at all.
Depending on your point of view, that could be viewed as a positive or negative. The positive being that all our based Jet2 and Ryanair aircraft are out and about, which they never have been previously in early February. The negative though is that we have an airport with nothing on the ground - an illustration as to why we need more non based carriers. There are still too many of these periods with no movements - sometimes as long as 5 hours without a scheduled arrival.

Personally, I'd look on this on the positive side. Whatever aircraft were scheduled to operate from LBA, are in the air an earning income for their owners. Better, an empty apron for a few hours, with the aircraft busy than a full apron and no operations. This is after all, probably the quietist period of the year.At 1.25pm today, as I walked near LBA, there was just 1 Jet2 737 300, presumably the broken G-GDFM, on the apron. Nothing else at all.
