It is also an opportunity for us to speak to concerned residents to allay their fears. What I found was people who genuinely worried about noise didn't know about new aircraft types. They had no idea LBAs main airline is still using the oldest aircraft. They had no idea blocking the airport from amending the night flying quota was preventing airlines like Jet2 from basing new quieter aircraft. So yes we can have an impact at these meetings by speaking directly with these people.

I agree, we all get a great deal of enjoyment- at no cost out of the airport, the least we can do is go to these meetings. Its important we speak up, not only will GALBA then fully appreciate there is support for the airport but also that we are actually making the effort to attend and effectively taking them on at their game, rather than sitting back and cussing from afar on the forum which had no effect on outcomes whatsoevet.

My suggestion would to only submit basic details, this will prompt more to go to the meetings in person.

Like @dmrodgers has said above, only so many people are able to attend the meetings in person so it’s a toss up between keeping people informed on here vs keeping people engaged and attending the meetings. I understand the possible conflict of interest slant but feels wrong to not be able to access this information. Many of us on this forum are interested but are by no means local. Some of us are at the airport frequently but not in a position to attend the meetings.

@pug yes that is my intention however the next couple of days are filled with prior commitments so please bear with me if this isn't done immediately. That said it's also important that I do type that up whilst everything is also still relatively fresh in my head

Is it clear? I would much rather VH gets to speak to as many concerned residents as he can so that they can hear first hand from the airport rather than being informed by a campaign group that are of course only interested in pushing their side of the story.

Exactly i understand what your saying but i feel it should not just be one sided where basically the minority have their say only. One reason i attended last night was because aviation is my hobby so i was keen to listen to what VH had to say about possible future routes, aircraft types etc of which i do have a clearer picture now thru his excellent speech.

I suppose the opposition will go on about the C02 problem! There isn't one. There are only 4 parts per million of C02 in the atmosphere. The UK produces 1 per cent per year i.e. 1 per cent of 4 parts per million. China producers 10 per cent.. This figure alters with the season as the when the sea cools in winter then it absorbs some of the gas and releases some of it back when THE SUN WARMS the earth.That allows the green leaves on the trees and green grass. C02 is not a poisonous gas either, it helps oxygen yo get into our blood stream and our organs.

I believe aviation only contributes 2 per cent of CO2, whereas motor vehicles its far far higher such as all them car journeys to MAN airport from yorkshire!

4 parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere? I think your figures are a bit flawed.

While true the point being made is current global emissions are extremely low, some would even argue too low for the planetary ecosystem.

I’m incredibly unconvinced by this, and quite frankly have already accepted that my generation has been failed, and that we will need to deal with the entirely avoidable fallout

In any case it is for the politicians to sort out as well as keeping us afloat without going back to the stone age.

I do accept however that this level of expansion of flights is a small one in the global scheme of things, in an industry which has a small overall contribution to CO2 emissions

In any case it is for the politicians to sort out as well as keeping us afloat without going back to the stone age.

Well we are told there is a consensus in science about the anthropogenic causes of climate allbeit the consensus is only between scientists who agree with one another certainly not all.

I'm going to have to insist the discussion goes no further here anyway due to big brother who literally says you can't disagree with the so called concensus even though science is supposed to never be settled. You can of course discuss this further Here where forum indexing by big tech isn't allowed.
