Absolutely tomh, i think we have a good chance.

I was indeed at Elland Road last night for the Leeds United game, and i believe the plans are to expand the stadium from 36000 to 47500. This, im sure would ensure the summer of 2018 is very busy indeed, as will many of the more regional airports as fans from all around the world try to get into the UK, to see their country.

Just out of interest which airlines use the airbridges at LBA do PIA use them at every visit and might there be a need for more airbridges in the near future

Out of the frequent visitors to LBA - KLM, Jet2 and PIA all use the air bridges when available. Most Charters such as Thomson's, Air Malta, Spanair, Air Europa, Thomas Cook for example, will use the air bridges when they are available. As a general rule, most low cost airlines don't use them, Ryanair wont use them at all under normal circumstances. In fact last weekends Santa flight was the first Ryanair that I have ever seen use an air bridge at Leeds. On another note, it is unlikely that PIA will be able to use the air bridges if they upgrade to a Boeing 777 unless the airport make modifications to the apron layout otherwise the tail end of the aircraft will infringe taxiway Alpha.

Thousands of would-be holidaymakers were today facing an unhappy Christmas after a travel group operating out of Leeds Bradford Airport went into administration.

Allbury Travel Group, which traded as Libra Holidays, Argo Holidays and JetLife, ceased trading at midnight on Friday.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials said at that time Allbury had 100 holidaymakers abroad and around 4,000 customers with forward bookings.

The Hertfordshire-based firm ran air package holidays and flights to Greece, Cyprus and Egypt out of Gatwick, Manchester, Newcastle and Bimingham airports as well as Leeds Bradford.

The number of Leeds Bradford trips affected by the group's problems is thought to be relatively small as the only winter route it operated from the airport was to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt.

People due to travel with Allbury are being advised against going to their departure airport and should instead submit refund claims to the CAA.

The CAA is also making arrangements to fly people stranded abroad home.

There could be some bargain seats available then on Sharm flights out of LBA? Surely they will do all they can to get bums on seats rather than fly without the Libra passengers. There could be a killing to be made for Jet2Holidays.com too.

In theory the passengers should just be able to transfer straight across to Jet2 once ABTA have refunded them their money. The same flights and hotels still exist with Jet2 presumably.

I need to get this off my chest.

LBIA really needs to step up a gear with it's, or lack of information provided during disruptions like the ones caused this weekend by the weather. It really is a joke, if the airport wants to be recognised as a major player then sort out the arrivals boards.

A good example is this mornings 2 diverts into Liverpool. The information on the board stated " holding" for at least an hour, those 2 jets had already landed at their diversion fields, not good enough. People are waiting to meet their friends, family etc from these flights.

The time is now 14.30, I last looked at the arrivals board on the website and still its stating that 2 aircraft are " holding" that were due to arrive at 09.30 and 09.55 am.


This has massive impact in peoples impressions, one thing the customer expects from an airport is organisation and Leeds certainly does not reflect that. If you look at any other airports arrivals boards the information is always up to date and usually dealing with many, many diversions than Leeds.


There's absolutely no excuse for this especially on a quite day like Saturday.

I would also add that over the last week, the clearance of snow and ice from the field and on passenger walkways & carparks was a disgrace!

I have been complaining for a long time about the airport web site and arrivals, so I have every sympathy. Another thing that happens is that flights that have diverted are shown on the arrivals for hours after they have gone elsewhere, with no information at all - almost as though there is a reluctance to admit that it has had to divert. No information is provided until eventually, the flight just disappears off the screen. Depending on which airport a flight diverts into, they sometimes show our flights on their arrivals (eg MAN do this) so by hunting around on Ceefax you can find out where it went, but in most cases there is no information at all to show where it even diverted to (eg DSA don't show diverts on their arrivals on Ceefax - amazing really as you would think they would jump at the chance to put one over LBA) .

Quite simply, not good enough and Bridgepoint appear rather disinterested in this element of customer service, which has become rapidly worse since they took over the airport.

Hi Heather,

I think it's a good idea to let the operations director know that people do notice things, in-fact it stands out a mile. I'm very surprise that the management are letting this happen,surely whilst monitoring the airport they use the boards as a quick reference for flight updates?

At this is moment in time LBA has big plans for the future including the possibility of flights to the US, if this goes ahead then that will
mean more seasoned travellers, people who have more expectations of an airport environment and that will cause big problems.

Not only are the arrivals boards incorrect but sometimes there are spelling mistakes. It simply looks shabby, sloppy and makes the airport look like its out of control.

Ryanair are soon to base an aircraft at Leeds, lets get this right before they come aboard and start to look like we are reading for new business. When senior officials come to the airport with the possibility of starting new services what do they think when they see an arrivals board that looks like its being managed by a 5 year old???

I think DSA read your mind because on Monday they did put the Wizz diversion from liverpool on ceefax guess this in the past might have considered Leeds but after the problems with the wizz last week we may not see them for a while.

There were lots of Chinese Lanterns floating about in the vicinity of LBA last night. Does anybody know if there's anything official banning the use of such things around airports? It's difficult to say how high they were exactly but I estimate that they were between 700 and 1000 ft above aerodrome level approximately 1 mile to the South West of the airfield.

There were several over the Cookridge area, South East of the airport too. I was amazed at how fast they were moving across the sky, and quite odd that they seemed to be following each other, following almost exactly the same path. It wasn't too windy on the ground but judging by the speed they were travelling at midnight when two passed over my house, it must have been very windy higher up. Very difficult to say how how they are though. No arrivals were due though so I don't suppose it would have caused a problem for LBA.

I saw the Look North report a day or two ago mentioning some down time at the airport, and laying it on really thick about LBA being the highest international airport in the country and intimating that was the reason for the downtime, but they omitted to mention the large number of other airports up and down the country closed for flights at the same time, and still closed when LBA had managed to re-open (thanks to the hard work of their ground staff). Their report caused more than mild annoyance in our house.
