No. Hopefully they may be thinking about it in the future as it would give Cardiff new connections and as well it could be billed as flight access to North East Wales.

Hi LBA787. Ir will more than likely be a E175 like todays flight. But i have seen Dash 8s on the route so don'nt rule it out..

I've been giving some thought to possible new "domestic" routes Flybe could consider in order to leverage off their increasing codeshare offerings with Longhaul carriers. What are the forum's views in the following:

• Cardiff (often discussed here)
• Bristol (major city, no LHR link)
• Stanstead (tap into Cambridge science/technology sectors - not easy to get to LHR)
• Dublin - major aviation market, lots of direct journeys and connections traffic going east.
• Cork - capture eastbound traffic.

Cardiff yes, especially because of the Wales Assembly Government's multi million pound route development loan to its wholly owned airport company that has already benefited CWL with the Flybe base after the airline pulled out a year before that saying all its routes were unprofitable. My only reservation is that the WAG may be hesitant about funding a MAN route if they believe it might have a negative effect on further direct Flybe routes from CWL.

Bristol - very doubtful. LHR is little more than an hour away from many parts of the city region and is the default airport for the majority of long haul travellers, especially business travellers. Furthermore, Flybe had a major falling out with BRS nearly ten years ago and has never really healed the breach. The only Flybe route is actually a Blue Islands franchise to Jersey.

Stansted, Dublin and Cork - I don't feel sufficiently aware of the markets at these airports to comment.

With Flybe's high costs Aer Lingus and Ryanair would destroy them to Dublin.

Cork may be a possibility but stiff competition from EIR, is there really demand for 2 carriers?

No idea about STN.

There are rumours of one, possibly two more Flybe destinations to be announced. I was under the impression that something was to be heard last week but obviously nothing happened. Either the talks have fallen through or there is a delay of sorts. Time will tell.

Although I am sure DUB would do good with the connections BE simply cannot compete with FR and EI who have multiple flights a day. The best course of action would be for CX, HU etc. to launch a codeshare aggreement with EI on the MAN-DUB route.

Cork could work - it would possibly drive down EI prices too.

I echo what the Local Yokel said about Cardiff and Bristol. I am not sure about Stansted - what about LCY or NCL?

Cardiff could work but i'm guessing it would have a to a double daily at least from Cardiff. The airport would want another based aircraft i'm sure but i'm not sure whether Flybe would want to base another aircraft there.

In a way yes and no. Flybe were dropping there morning DUB and going to a daily late evening one.They were going to do CDG as a double daily but then EI decided to drop DUB so Flybe had to change their plans. Problem is the EI morning flight arrives back in DUB too late for the morning US flights entailing a long layover whereas KLM who overnight arrives with perfect timing. Hopefully there will be a codeshare between EI and BE especially as EI pulled out on other regional airports as well. In a way EI damaged their own service with the flight times.

Aer Lingus to Dub has only operated since Aer Lingus Regional came into existence in 2010 (unless you are talking about rugby charters each Six Nations season) with Aer Arann operating as the franchise carrier instead of in its own right which it had done since Ryanair left CWL in 2006. In the years prior to that Dublin had been operated by a combination of Ryanair, Air Wales and the BA franchise carrier (mainly British Regional) at various times. For a short period about ten years ago Aer Arann also operated to Cork in its own right and to Galway for an even shorter period (Galway was probably a bit earlier).

Considering Flybe has just launched FCO from CWL could they be about to launch it from MAN as well?

Unlikely. MAN has Vueling, Ryanair and Jet2 meaning it's quite a busy route already.
