LBIA are advertising on their website that Balkan Holidays is going direct from LBA next year as opposed to routing via Humberside.

Lets hope so, but we have heard that before and then the low bookings have resulted in a stop at HUY again. I can't help thinking that perhaps Bulgaria is missing a trick in failing to market itself very well. It has always tended to be a low cost destination and in the current climate there should be scope to do quite well - yet it seems to have gone steadily backwards in this region since the heady days of two TU154's a week to both Bourgas and Varna! Its disappointing too that last year we got ski flights to Sofia that never took off and then this year they are not on the agenda again.

Well it looks like the weekly Balkan Holidays Air A320 flights to Bourgas might going to be direct as it's also been advertised on the Balkan Holidays website as well.

I've also just noticed that its been rescheduled and has new flight numbers. It was originally planned to operate on a Sunday but now its showing as a Friday evening service for next summer on there flight only website, http://www.balkanholidays.co.uk/flight_only/leeds-bradford-airport.html

BGH5570 = Departs Leeds/Bradford @ 18:40 - Arrives Bourgas @ 00:10
BGH5569 = Departs Bourgas @ 16:10 - Arrives Leeds/Bradford @ 17:40

Meanwhile the Humberside - Bourgas flights for next summer are still showing as been operated on a Sunday evening as has been for the previous few years.

Yet more good new then. This has been a damn good week for LBA hasn't it.

I see LBA is offering a free parking deal to Balkan Holidays customers. I' guess this means their holidays aren't selling particularly well at the moment so hopefully this offer will drum up some sales for them.

Balkan Holidays now have there Bulgarian summer 2013 programme on sale.

The good news is that LBA retains its weekly direct Bourgas service. But it looks to be switching from a Friday evening service as is this summer to a new Saturday morning service next summer.

BGH5569 = Bourgas 07:25 - Leeds/Bradford 08:55
BGH5570 = Leeds/Bradford 09:55 - Bourgas 15:20

Its good that they are still around, but a couple of years ago they announce Sofia, then it was cancelled again (it might have been a ski flight). It would be nice to see them try it again sometime.

If I recall, didn't they also do flights during the summer season to Varna a few years ago via Teeside?

Believe it or not a few years before that Balkan Holidays operated direct flights to both Bourgas and Varna weekly from Leeds Bradford Airport and had done for years until around the mid 90's I think. One of the older cronies (Seasider :D ) might be able to confirm when they stopped operating into Varna.

From one of the "Older Cronies".
If my memory and information is correct, Balkan last operated to Varna in the summer of 2004.
I'll go and have a my statutory lie down now, wake me up if someone posts any further requests for me. :s_bored

I seem to think that year it got either cancelled or it operated via another airport. Ah well no bother. :dunno:

I think Varna was going later than you think....unless it was cancelled early.....I cannot remember!

I have BGH5543/4 to Varna running from 14/5/2007 to 7/10/2007.

Good news as Balkan Holidays now have there summer 2014 holidays and flight only options now on sale. It looks like Leeds-Bradford will keep its once weekly Saturday Bourgas service operated by Balkan Holidays Air, Airbus A320 aircraft with flights commencing from May 17th 2014 and will operate as follows.

BGH5569 = BOJ 07:25 - LBA 08:55
BGH5570 = LBA 09:55 - BOJ 15:20

Balkan Holidays have just released there summer 2016 programme for sale. Good News it includes the once weekly Leeds/Bradford - Bourgas service. It looks the schedule has been retimed to operate Saturday early evening and without having first 2 months operation going via Humberside as has happened over the past few years.

BGH5569 = Bourgas: 15:35 - Leeds: 17:05
BGH5570 = Leeds: 18:05 - Bourgas: 23:30

I would personally say that it is much better timed and using the airport on Saturday evenings when it is very quiet!

It would be good to see them reenstate the Varna route after such a long period without it.

Balkan Holidays summer 2017 programme from Leeds/Bradford to Bourgas flights now on sale with the route remaining operated 1x weekly every Saturday evening using Airbus A320 aircraft from May 20th until September 30th.

BGH5569 = Bourgas 15:20 - Leeds 16:55 / BGH5570 = Leeds 17:55 - Bourgas 23:20

Balkan Holidays have today released summer 2018 holidays programme from Leeds/Bradford to Bourgas. Flights remaining operated 1x weekly every Saturday evening using Airbus A320 equipment from May 19th running until September 29th.

BGH5569 = Bourgas 15:20 - Leeds 16:55 / BGH5570 = Leeds 17:55 - Bourgas 23:20

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
