Any ideas when the current contract with DSA is up for renewal?

It funny to think that TUI's winter schedule is actually bigger than their planned summer ops for 2011.

Maybe Thomson are put off by the presence of TCX at LBA at the moment?

In comparison, does anyone know what the terminal facilities etc are like at DSA. I know DSA can boast of its lengthy runway, but what about the terminal etc, how does it compare to its rivals, as such as LBA and LPL for example.

I personally would like to see more of TOM at LBA, but i fear with Ryanair, Jet2 and Thomas Cook all operating your typical sun, and city hotspots, they may feel its a risk not worth taking. In my opinion, i think TOM should maybe look at some longer haul destinations from LBA, not currently served...

If this materialises, you heard it here first...

But i heard something today, which would be great for the airport, the winter and Thomson. Rumour has it they plan to base a Boeing 737-800wl and a Boeing 757-200wl here for Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the winter, operating flights to Sharm el Sheik, Las Palmas and also Acapulco. Now im not sure about the latter, but we will see.

I assume the aircraft would position in Thursday evening and depart Sunday evening, something similar to what TCX used to do if i remember.

The SSH and Tenerife are confirmed, no sign of the LPA though? It would have to be a B767 to get to Acapulco, no way a 757 could make it there without a serious payload restriction.

Hi

The following is comfirmed so far to operated by 1 part based Boeing 757-200WL.

Wednesdays
NWI 21:00 LBA 21:50 TOM9428
Thursdays
LBA 08:00 SSH 15:25 TOM612
SSH 16:25 LBA 20:25 TOM613
Fridays
LBA 10:10 TFS 14:35 TOM3530
TFS 15:35 LBA 20:05 TOM3531
LBA 21:00 MME 21:30 TOM9531

NWI = Norwich, SSH = Sharm el Sheikh, TFS = Tenerife South, MME = Teeside

Also Thomsons are operating the following P&O Cruise flights with the long haul wide bodied Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

November 8th 2010 = To Bridgetown-Barbados
November 23rd 2010 = From Acapulco-Mexico
January 16th 2011 = To Bridgetown-Barbados
January 29th 2011 = From Bridgetown-Barbados
February 19th 2011 = To Bridgetown-Barbados
March 6th 2011 = From Bridgetown-Barbados

It will be summer 2011 into winter 2011/12 that will be interesting once the airline has received it's Boeing 787. LBA will be wide open to a whole host of potential routes. Lets hope the airport can pull it off.

That's what I thought - confirmed about 9 months ago?

It certainly was but the main point Type Rated B767 was making is the part basing of aircraft at LBA.

OK understood, but check the 2nd Feb postings on the first page of the Charters - winter 10/11 thread and you'll see what I mean.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, todays TOM flight to Palma was upgraded to a B767-300WL. It just took off over my house as I was arriving home. Anyone know the reason why?

I saw it take off, it looked like a B737-800 to me. Was it around 16:30 - 17:00?

About 1640, but everything about it was bigger than a 737-800. As soon as I saw it climbing out, and heard the engines, I thought 767, and as it flew over my house, it looked far larger than the 757, and miles bigger than a Ryanair 737-800. I didn't have time to have a really good look but I would have put money on it being a 767-300WL. I hadn't been drinking either!

I have little doubt all will be revealed when LBASpotter gets on here later!

LBASpotter has indeed come up trumps and confirmed in the Movements thread that it was indeed a 767-300. Registration details are on that thread.

Yes, well done White Heather! I'd seen the aircraft take off from the Rodley roundabout which is a little bit further away hence my bad judgement.

Easily done from down there Aviador - I know a few folk who wouldn't even see a plane from Rodley. I was fortunate in that from my house I see them climbing out, looking at them from the front, and the 767 wingspan was the giveaway - it is much bigger than the 757. I could also hear it, and again, the engines sound completely different. Once it flew overhead I knew it was a 767-300. If it hadn't been I would probably have given up aviation completely and taken up train spotting instead!! :whiteflag:

Hi

I just thought i'll let you all know that we will have 2 Thomson Aircraft on the deck at the same time this afternoon.

The new winter 2010/11 Tenerife Service starts today. A Boeing 737-800WL is due to position in empty from Belfast Int'l at 14:20 to operate the outbound service.

Meanwhile the normal Boeing 757-200 summer Corfu service comes to an end today. As the outbound will will be going out empty back to Corfu.

Late coming in and late going out! However, at least it DID come in and it did operate from LBA. Frankly (and speaking as someone who is not flying on it) I would rather it come late than not at all, which happens far too often with TOM.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
