Necessary considering how rubbish the TUIJET(*) callsign is - you try enunciating it clearly over a radio! TOMSON and TOMJET are much better. I guess callsigns are not really visible to customers (apart from the avgeeks) so even it is a backwards step it won't really be a noticeable one for the public.

Not at all KARFA... the “TUI JET” callsign is used by TUI fly Deutschland.

The TUI Group of airlines now consist of:

TUI have also now added an end of summer 2018 season service to Tenerife.

The based Sunwing Boeing 737-800 was due to position Leeds to Tenerife empty on Sunday, October 28th so to operate the last inbound TOM3749 service. But the outbound will now operate in service meaning a week later one of TUI Airways own Boeing 737-800 will operate into Leeds as follows.

It would be throwing my money away paully - 80% chance it will end up at MAN. A slight breeze will become a gale force crosswind, a cloud will become low cloud, and slight mist will become fog. If all else fails, a tech fault that requires surgery at MAN can be called upon.

Begs the question as to what TUI will do with TOM3506 to Mahon that's due out at 17:50 this evening.. Bus to Manchester anyone?

After 9/11 the Canadian registered aircraft were grounded by the Canadian government. I'm not sure if the EU rule is for EU operating aircraft only or if it includes aircraft operating to or from the EU.

absolutely covered. any flight within the EU or departing from the EU to a destination outside the EU is covered regardless of where the airline is registered. compensation may or may not be payable depending on length of delay in to the destination for the passenger and the reason - some things are exempted such as weather and ATC restrictions. duty of care always applies, so food and drink and overnight accommodation.

the registration country of the aircraft itself is irrelevant - it would be covered even if the operating carrier was a non EU carrier so even if it were being flown as a Sunwing prime flight it would be covered. in this case it is being flown as a TUI flight anyway so an EU carrier. another example is BA at the moment are using QR A330 with QR crew for some of their flights due to the 787 availability issues. these are treated as BA flights and therefore covered as an EU carrier. from the regulation

"the obligations that it creates should rest with the operating air carrier who performs or intends to perform a flight, whether with owned aircraft, under dry or wet lease, or on any other basis."

nonEU airline operated flights departing from outside the EU with a destination in the EU are not covered, so an AA flight from PHL-MAN is not covered by EC261. an EU carrier operating the same route would be covered.
