Thank you Scottie!
Very interesting to see Ibiza as 2nd highest destination for the month and 6500 for Florida!

In summer 2000 there were up to 91 weekly charter flights all to sun destinations, although Orlando and Toronto might not be considered 'Costa'-type destinations.

The destinations have the 'up to' number of weekly return flights to each shown alongside:

Alicante 5
Malaga 7
Girona 2
Reus 3
Tenerife 7
Arrecife 4
Fuerteventura 1
Las Palmas 4
Rhodes 2
Zante 3
Corfu 2
Kos 1
Halkidiki (Thessaloniki) 1
Paphos 2
Larnaca 3
Dalaman 3
Izmir 1
Faro 4
Palma 16
Mahon 5
Ibiza 7
Heraklion 4
Verona 1
Orlando 2
Toronto 1

Total 91

Airlines used for these charters were Britannia Airways, Airtours, Air 2000, JMC Air, Spanair, Air Europa, Futura, European Aviation, Cronus Air, British Midland, Air Transat.

There were no scheduled flights to 'sun' destinations in 2000.

There were up to 24 return scheduled flights on weekdays, fewer at weekends.

The main scheduled carrier was the BA franchisee (I think it was British Regional in 2000) that operated mainly with Jetstream J41 aircraft to:

Edinburgh (3 x daily)
Glasgow (4 x daily)
Aberdeen/Belfast International (1 x daily)
Guernsey (1 x M, W, F)
Brussels (2 x daily)
Paris Cdg (3 x daily)
Dublin (3 x daily)

The other scheduled carriers were:

KLM Cityhopper (F 50s) Amsterdam (5 x daily)
Ryanair (B737-200s) Dublin (1 x daily)
Manx (equip not known) Jersey (1 x daily)

My first attempt at a new means and style of reporting airport statistics and I hope that you find it interesting.

The data that is marked as N/A is because I am unable to easily collected and correlate the information for the split of Domestic and International passengers going back to November-December 2018. Once the data becomes available for January 2021 then my figures will allow me to report for the full columns.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions with regards to the formatting then please PM them to me. The use of screenshots would possibly give a cleared reading, however I appreciate that I need to take into account the capacity of the server - and I am hoping to the able to include Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester into this monthly format plus any other airports that you think might be worthwhile be included (Luton and Stansted are possibilities, however that are not airports that feature greatly in these forums).

Apologies -a gremlin got into my workings for the top summary chart and the Birmingham data actually was showing.

This has now been corrected.

Leakage to other airports was brought up in the BHX thread and is often mentioned here but in general tends to focus on Bristol but not so much other airports. I will put a disclaimer here that the CAA numbers for 2019 are for the whole of Wales not just south and west which tends to be Cardiff's catchment but i thought they were worth posting.
London Airports 1,608,000 scheduled 1,573,000 charter 35,000
Heathrow 937,000 scheduled 936,000 charter 1000
Gatwick 466,000 scheduled 435,000 charter 30,000
Stansted 123,000 scheduled 121,000 charter 2000
Luton 69,000 scheduled 68,000 charter 1,000
London City 10,000 scheduled 10,000
Southend 3000 scheduled 3000
Other airports 2,892,000 scheduled 2,633,000 charter 259,000
Bristol 1,695,000 scheduled 1,561,000 charter 134,000
Manchester 989,000 scheduled 893,000 charter 96,000 (safe to say the bulk will be from the north)
Birmingham 197,000 scheduled 168,000 charter 29,000
East Midlands 11,000 scheduled 11,000
In total 4,500,000 passengers from/to Wales in 2019 use the English airports in this survey. 4,206,000 use scheduled flights 294,000 used charter flights.

Cardiff's breakdown for passengers from/to Wales 1,469,000 scheduled passengers 957,000 charter 512,000. Passengers using the airport from the south west numbered 76,000 scheduled 36,000 charter 40,000. From the West Midlands Cardiff attracted 18,000 scheduled 14,000 charter 3000. Notably Liverpool isn't included in the survey.

I'm surprised there is as much as 2095 passengers for the month!

If only CWL could claw back half of the 4,500,000 Welsh passengers that use English airports in the future, imagine what those figures would do for CWL, it's going to take a long time, but we can always live in hope.

I think getting back to 1.5 million will be the challenge for the next 5 years.

That would indicate a very slow recovery in the industry generally as other airports would see a similar sluggish growth rate. With Wizz Air coming on board there must be grounds for some optimism once the pandemic recovery gets under way.

Well I think it depends on firstly how much Wizz expands by ie whether or when CWL gets an extra aircraft or more routes and secondly how quickly it can regain Edinburgh, Dublin and Paris. Between those 3 routes in 2019 285,000 passengers used them. Add in Doha and it's up to 375,000 passengers that will be lost for 2021 at least looking at it at the moment that's without the loss of other routes like Glasgow and Jersey and Cork and Milan and Barcelona and Malta and Rome etc. Altogether with those routes it's probably pushing towards 600,000 passengers lost and Wizz at the moment isn't replacing any of that they are replacing the lost capacity of Thomas Cook.
Obviously we don't know what's around the corner and if any other airlines will add more but when the WG took over in 2013 it took the airport a good 5 years to get above 1.6 million passengers again. May well take the same again or be faster.

What do fellow members think of the possibility of the new FlyBE taking over the bread and butter routes, to EDI, DUB, and Paris, the new owners have applied for an ATOL.

It all depends on what their strategy is, whether it's as a regional point 2 point airline or a feeder for Virgin (if they are still involved). Also would people trust them after going bust?

They will probably fly under a different name, a lot of passengers won't realise the previous connection, we hope.

Could you please clarify something for me?

In the right hand column under 'Moving' you show a total of 292,650 annual passengers which I take to be the 12-month rolling total, which for December would also be the total for the calendar year of 2020.

The CAA shows far fewer passengers for the 12-months to the end of December (Airport Statistics Summary) - 219,197. Am I misreading your figures in some way and if I am what does the total of 292,650 passengers relate to?

My plans got altered slightly as one of the minibus companies had to cancel 3 trips and refunded me but will be getting nice discount when I rebook them.
wondering why on my "holidays" I choose to get up 2 hours earlier than when going to work. 6 trips in 6 days soon coming up with 3 more days to sort out
