I read in an article today that profits were down by 27.9% due to terrorist attacks, French ATC strikes and Brexit devaluing the pound but that passenger numbers were up 6.6%. Easyjet have also setup an EU subsidiary in case the UK can't negotiate participation in the ECAA or have a separate agreement with similar access.

I think it's a wait and see with easy.. clearly demand is at Bristol for the flights and they must be aware of this despite the profit warnings and brexit unknowns..
I have previously posted my concerns around Bristol putting all its eggs in one basket, that being easy's dominance at the airport.. If they did scale back this would hit bristol in the short term and dent its growth plans and year on year passenger rise we have seen of late.. having said this, it also might be a golden opportunity to shake things up and attract some new airlines in, which to be honest feels overdue at Bristol. Choice is good for all, look at BHX, a great example of charter, budget and scheduled airlines with excellent routes...
I guess we will know more in time.

An article this week in the local daily newspaper quotes that there will be new routes announced in the new year so that certainly seems promising . The schedule certainly doesn't seem complete to me at the moment. On the issue of more competition I totally agree but where it's likely to come from is anyone's guess

If you consder personal examples, i for one am cancelling my September weekend break. For one reason only. The weaker pound. And the risk of air traffic strikes.

Many others are considering the same. Yes i will have my summer 10 day holiday but the september oct break is gone without a thought.

Easyjet is going to be hit by these decisions. They have to make their tickets sufficiently attractive for me to reconsider.

I would like to see bristol attract some airlines like Norwegian, vueling, jet 2 and some of the state carriers who to be honest do offer some competitive fares if you look and consider early enough.. anything to change an easy jet, Ryanair dominance...

Don't think Vueling will turn up at BRS as they would've done so by now and they have a growing operation at CWL.
Norwegian would be a good shout as they could also fly in. Jet2 would be more of a rival to Thomson and Thomas Cook than Easyjet. I do think it is a case of don't upset Easyjet at BRS and WOW may be an example of that as BRS doesn't need 2 airlines on KEF.

I had a brief count earlier for Friday 4 th of August and there is a gap for no 14 during the morning where there is no Malaga. However earlier in the summer the 14 th a/ c is fully utilised with a Malaga service. So it will be interesting how all the aircraft are utilised. I still find it unusual how peak summer can see reductions in v popular routes. Maybe just maybe could we see no 15 ?

never say never with anything. makes you wonder why 3 new aircraft stands being built. the airport not going to spend money on any thing unless sure of being used and biggest thing to make money.

The new stands may just be strategic planning for the future to make sure they have the stand space for any potential new airline or any potential extra aircraft. It doesn't mean for definite that new aircraft will turn up next year.

I will be extremely surprised if easyJet does cut back on overall flights in peak summer. With an additional based aircraft there ought to be more flights overall compared with summer 2016. In the past some routes have appeared to be going to be reduced in frequency but then increased. For example, there was going to be no easyJet Saturday Amsterdam flight initially either for summer 2016 or summer 2015 (I forget which) but it did appear in the booking system well before the season began and operated.

From the newspaper article linked in #468 it seems from the easyJet spokeswomen that more routes will be put in place for next year and frequencies increased on others.

Like many people, I have long recognised that it's a dangerous practice for any business to rely too much on one customer but easyJet has certainly revolutionised the scene at BRS over the past 15 years. No airline that can reasonably operate out of BRS can be discounted, but any lo-co coming in would want a slice of the sun market which is already heavily served by easyJet and Ryanair, not to mention the major charter operators.

Incidentally, I am continually surprised that easyJet does not re-introduce Milan Malpensa. They had decent loads a few years ago when going daily against Ryanair's daily Bergamo. With Ryanair's BGY now reduced to three a week, and bmi regional really operating a virtual in-house service to MXP for Augusta Westland or whatever it's called now, Malpensa seems an obvious one if new routes are to be introduced.

To answer the question in #456, easyJet has been used by some tour operators for a number of years. In the past four years I've flown to GVA twice with TUI Holidays in Montreux and Lucerne respectively, with easyJet the carrier from BRS.

Addendum

I've been out of the country for the past month but have just checked the Bristol Post and an article of 15 November 2016 includes this:

Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK commercial manager told the Post that the company plans to expand upon its current raft of 60 routes out of Bristol Airport.

“There will be some announcements in the new year about new routes," she said. “But before then we will be launching our new Bristol to Turin route next month, catering for the ski season market."

The Flybe CWL-MXP has been getting good loads (September was over 100 pax average per flight) and I wonder if EZY not flying the route from BRS actually helps that.
I hope you had a great trip as well!

Thank you for your good wishes. Excellent visit to Oz again to see family.

Having no MXP does seem slightly odd to me given some of the routes that easyJet operates from BRS. It would be interesting to know how many West Country originating or final destination passengers have been using the Flybe CWL-MXP route.

a commrnt to a post in 475.
I'm wondering if bmi will keep the milan route operating with augusta/westland closing the Yeovil plant.i don't know what other take up of pax are to keep it operating.

I think it's GKN that's closing its Yeovil plant. GKN made components there for Westland - now owned by Leonardo part of the Italian Finmeccanica which will take the work inhouse.

So far as I'm aware Leonardo will retain its Yeovil presence but I have no idea how many personnel (if any) from GKN used the bmi regional flights.

New routes :

Kefalonia: 2 X weekly ( April 22 - October 28)

Operates on Saturday and Wednesday

EZY6133 BRS 16:55 - EFL 22:20 A320
EZY6134 EFL 23:00 - BRS 00:25 A320

Pula: 1 X weekly ( 27 May - September 30)

Operates on Saturdays

EZY6269 BRS 10:20 - PUY 13:50 A320
EZY6270 PUY 14:25 - BRS 14:25 A320

Two good destinations added into the ever growing portfolio of routes with Easyjet at Bristol, With PUY, DBV, SPU from EZY and also with FR adding ZAD recently that's Croatia very well served from BRS from a LCC point of view, not to forget the flights with TOM also, very good to see.

Changes to next summer schedule starting to appear. Marrakech is back at the moment weekly and split increases to 4 x weekly.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
