Had an email from BRS today saying that more easyJet routes would be restarting/starting in October and November: Basel*, Hurghada, Krakow**, Reykjavik (Keflavik), Rome Fiumicino***, Sharm el Sheikh and Venice Marco Polo****

* Basel will be 2 x weekly this winter but currently there is no summer availability next year

** Next summer Krakow will reduce to 3 x weekly from 4 x weekly pre-pandemic with Ryanair retaining its previous 3 x weekly. Both airlines will operate 4 x weekly this winter

*** Next summer Rome Fiumicino is 6 x weekly (no Thursday). It's been daily in summer almost since the route's inception getting on for 20 years ago and loads were such that we frequently speculated on increasing frequency

**** Next summer Venice Marco Polo is 2 x weekly after being daily in summer pre-pandemic. Not only that but Ryanair also operated 6 x weekly against easyJet's daily. Ryanair is now switching its Bristol 'Venice' flight from Marco Polo back to Treviso at 4 x weekly next summer

Milan Malpensa is also seeing a reduction in frequency next summer based on pre-pandemic days. It will be 2 x weekly - was 4 x weekly. Ryanair's Malpensa also reduces next summer from 6 x weekly to 2 x weekly. It does though retain its 'Milan' Bergamo at 3 x weekly. Pisa is shown as 5 x weekly next summer - was daily in summer pre-pandemic.

The frequency of easyJet's other Italian routes next summer appears to be as they were pre-pandemic.

Vienna and Seville appear to have gone next summer with easyJet, albeit Ryanair remains to Vienna and VIE is accessible with easyJet via Amsterdam but the journey time is around seven hours. BRS-AMS has increased to 20 x weekly (3 x daily except Saturday which is 2) from 12 x weekly pre-pandemic. If KLM returns to 4 x daily that seems a lot of seats even if KLM is used extensively by interlining passengers.

Ryanair is beginning both Barcelona El Prat and Madrid this winter against easyJet's established routes to these airports. Next summer easyJet returns to its pre-pandemic frequencies of 14 x weekly (2 x daily) to Barcelona and daily to Madrid, with Ryanair operating 4 x weekly and 3 x weekly respectively. Ryanair is also returning to 6 x weekly next summer on what it calls 'Barcelona Girona'.

I've not had time to look at all of easyJet's BRS services next summer and anyway things will doubtless change depending on the course of the pandemic.

Easyjet app has removed Aberdeen and Mykonos from the destination selection. Jersey and Malta however remain however although with nothing on sale

There are some strange omissions and reductions in the booking engine at present for summer 22.

Basel is shown for the coming winter but not s 22
Lyon is not showing for s 22, only for the ski season
Nice is shown as weekly in s 22, previously 10 x weekly in summer pre-pandemic
Montpellier is gone from the booking engine but I think that might have been reported some time ago
Toulouse is shown for the coming winter but not s 22, previously daily in summer pre-pandemic
Vienna is gone from the booking engine - it seems easyJet has given best to Ryanair on this although easyJet began the route

As with all routes from anywhere the pandemic uncertainty is still with us for s 22. I don't have an app. Are there any differences in the app compared with information in the booking engine re the routes above?

I note that easyJet operated to both Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada today. I didn't check the seat selector for today's flights. The next to both Egyptian destinations are on Saturday (6th) with, at the moment, 145 seats of the 186-seat A320 occupied to Hurghada and 107 of 186 to Sharm el Sheikh.

Another easyJet route this morning was Fuerteventura with both Jet2 and TUI also operating to FUE within a couple of hours of easyJet. I wonder how sustainable that is in these days of the continuing pandemic effects.

New short season route to kittila appearing on the app
Kittila has been flown before by easyJet 2/3 x weekly from mid December to around the end of February, possibly into March, but it never appeared in the booking engine nor in the easyJet dropdown list of BRS routes. I assumed easyJet was operating exclusively for a tour company or companies.

These were the respective annual Kittia passenger figures between 2016 and 2019: 8,701; 9.578; 10,501; 9,262. In the several years before that Kittila was in the range 3,000 to 4,750.

Now it may be that some of the Kittila passenger numbers in the period 2016-2019 were those of 'Santa trips' by other airlines but it would have been a small proportion.

The other Santa destinations - Ivalo, Enontekio and Rovaniemi - that were not operated by easyJet saw passenger numbers typically in the 1,000s to 2,000s which is the likely number of the non-easyJet Kittila passenger numbers.

If Kittila is in the easyJet app it might appear in the booking engine (it's not there yet) which might suggest that the airline intends operating it as a commercial offering itself although it might also be providing seats for a tour company or companies.

Easyjet have added Winter Seasonal flights from Bristol to Kittila during December 2021

There will be flights on these dates in December to Kittila: 1st/5th/8th/12th/15th and 19th.

Discussed yesterday in the two posts prior to this one. The history of the easyJet BRS-KTT route is slightly unusual for easyJet at BRS. I don't know if that applies to any other easyJet UK airports.

Very true. As I can see in the previous post. But I don’t see any mention of which dates these will be operating. Plus only flights operating in December.

Fair enough.

I'll keep an eye out when the time arrives to see if Kittila continues into January and February as in previous years albeit never shown in the booking engine or the dropdown list of destinations, so your information and Marko's might indicate a new strategy.

Ezy appear to have many aircraft parked on the apron at all times. What percent of their fleet are actually operational at BRS?

Does anyone know the size of the BRS easyJet winter fleet as opposed to the aircraft that might just be parked up at the airport? I don't.

In the last pre-pandemic summer (2019) there were 18 based aircraft all of which were in maximum or near maximum daily use. Winter of course always saw significantly reduced operations by easyJet and most other airlines.

What can be determined at the moment is the number of easyJet flights each day. From about mid-August through September and October this year the daily departure rate of all airlines was between around 50 and 75 according to the day of the week. During this time easyJet was responsible for about 50% of these movements, give or take, as it was pre-pandemic when at that time of year overall daily airline departures typically numbered 100-115, again mainly depending on day of the week.

Now that the winter season is here daily airline departures have been between the low 30s and low 50s with again easyJet operating roughly 50% - today they operated 14 out of the 32 departures.

Winter at BRS compared with summer has invariably offered stark contrasts in passenger numbers and flights. The lowest month is January and the highest August. In 2019 January saw 520,427 passengers and August almost double that 1,009,498. A similar January-August ratio has been in evidence for many years.

Clearly the pandemic is still impacting uncomfortably on aviation although BRS is doing better than many airports in terms of numbers of flights and numbers of passengers, but on many routes load factors, although growing substantially, are still not what they were pre-pandemic.

Looking at the first waves in Feb and August (considered the peak months in each season), easyjet have generally 10 based in winter and 16 based so far in summer 2022.

W21 is one A321, one A319 and 8 A320
S22 is two A321, two A319 and 12 A320

but that of course alters day to day.

hope that helps.

Many thanks. Most helpful.

Summer 22 adjustments are being added on the app - Lyon , Toulouse and Basel all reappearing , extra frequencies on others and Mykonos now back on programme

So there’s extra frequencies to Alicante , Malaga, faro , murcia , lanzarote , Zante and the Isle of Man plus the return of Mykonos. Surprisingly no Malta , nor jersey or Aberdeen . The airport has now released a press release with the news of aircraft no 18.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
