Must be in advanced stages if you're aware of flight times Ray.

Flight numbers, times and schedules are all there. I guess there is always the possibility that things may have altered in the last few weeks but I hope not.

I really hope it's an airline we can actually get behind and support.

I hope that people get behind it too, hopefully they'll be given a chance and at least considered by anybody planning a trip to N America next year.

If people use them and they are below par then fair enough, it's back to the M40. If, however, people use them and the product is good then they need to tell everyone they know and as many people as possible that they don't know, then get them to do the same :)

Ray's second paragraph is the real food for thought. Maybe by virtue of profile, advertising and 'megaphone diplomacy' we have been indoctrinated into believing that if it is American (as in the US) it is good; likewise with Germany, Japan. Sweden etc etc. And conversely if it is, say, Italian, Greek or Egyptian, we are less convinced. This is not racist or predjudicial, it is how the modern world works with advertising; speak loud and for long enough and people will 'believe'; you. Take McDonald's as an example, parents may not be keen but their children, because of what they see and hear, can't get enough of them.
But at the end of the day is McDonald's efficacious?
And so with airlines, maybe within a very short time an airline that is not in our first train of thought, might be advertised as operating BHX - NYC. One thing is for sure, this airline will conform to all the safety requirements as any other major airline but may provide a more punctual service and on an airliner that might provide better comfort.
So, don't judge prematurely and don't fall into the trap that 'bigger is best and more beautiful'.

I think it's safe to say that these routes are going to need a hell of a lot of advertising; unless we've been (with all good intentions) misled by those in the know I'm struggling to see Joe public flying BHX-USA on an airline that a group of informed people such as ourselves can't even figure out?

Can anyone answer if it's an airline any of us actually know about?

It is possible that the airline in question has already been mentioned but the people in the know aren't able to confirm it because they aren't allowed. Guess we'll all find out in a couple of weeks time.

Hi there ray and all, so does this mystery airline currently fly from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow at all.....AndyC.

The airline does not fly from MAN or LHR
The next rumoured airline (after this one) does fly from LHR but not MAN, infact the country invloved is not served from MAN. However, this may not be announced for a while !

If the next rumoured airline is who I think it is, then both MAN and BHX are in talks for this route, and there is certainly a huge and very high yield cargo trade from MAN for this particular destination, and a large growth in the PDEW passenger flows. Like I say, that is if it is the same airline in question but could be barking up the wrong tree.

Oooh hello, now we have two Users :)

My next question is: should this first airline launch BHX-America, will it be their first ever attempt at any long haul flights and not just their first attempt at TATL?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
