I dont think you are alone by feeling "underwhelmed" by the airline, im feeling the same but im going to reserve judgement until i hear more concrete information about this new partnership.
As the rumour developed i think we all knew a while back we we would be "underwhelmed" but as you say lets see what happens. Plus point is being a Scandinavian airline will do it no harm with the British public. We do see them
as friendly and efficient.

- nobody is offering low cost flights to the US from Manchester
- it's amazing how far people will travel for a cheap fare - look at midlanders heading to MAN or LHR. Now it's our turn to pinch a few passengers back!
- Birmingham has the highest population by proportion of 16-25 yr olds in the uk, and one of the highest Europe.
- air transat is going to get the kick up the backside it's for so long needed through the competition this brings.

However we dont want to lose Air Transat either, after all they have been quite loyal to BHX. But then again so were United, lol

One plus is the name Primera isn't country specific so should be easier to market, imagine advertising fly direct from Birmingham - North America with Ukraine International or Bulgaria Air which I was fearing at one point.

I know someone who didn't book Norwegian to Barcelona because they didn't want to change planes in Oslo!

Did not expect Primera! Just been doing some reading on them and it looks like they started out as a charter airline and have gradually changed their business model to a scheduled airline. They've obviously seen a market and are now expanding into TATL. Good luck to them and i hope this is a great success for them and BHX and that it encourages them to expand into other UK regional airports!

Good Luck to Primera Air, they have to be applauded for at least giving it a go, just hope the Midlands passengers can get behind them, at least they have plenty of time to market and promote these flights before they begin.

I just wonder if it will all be economy class, or will they be selling business class as well?

and could their first flight from Birmingham to New York be the first transatlantic flight by an A321neo aircraft? That would be good publicity! (y)

New York, Toronto and Boston are all big cities so at the right price surely they will sell some seats there and from further locations to budget travelers.

It the risk of getting flamed I don't think they are going to make much of an impression on regular flyers already traveling through Heathrow to North America and not just because of advertising, the following will play a major part:
  • Not a part of a recognised FF/status programme
  • No onward connections beyond the direct destination
  • No biz cabin
  • No contracts with any business travel management co
If they can sell tickets good luck to them. The routes development team have done sterling work delivering growth but if there were any area I had a question mark about it's these prestige long haul routes where some of the additions in my opinion have looked a bit desperate and then subsequently fail. I hope we aren't going to see this here but I also hope this isn't a panic measure designed to fill the gap of United leaving that messes up our chance of getting a full service airline in the future or maybe one of Jet Blue's first transatlantic links.

Brand awareness to the midlands public.........Iv'e never heard of them and I bet if you went round the bullring next Saturday the majority would say WHO?. They will need serious advertisements to make this work.
I wonder what will happen when the special rates offered by the airport expire. Time will tell.

The basic functions are still there in the menu, but all pages then return an error message.

One page in particular that has been added is the 'transatlantic experience' page.

I know someone who didn't book Norwegian to Barcelona because they didn't want to change planes in Oslo!

I flew to Malaga with Norwegian last year. When I told the wife it was booked she asked who we were flying with, I told her Norwegian and her reply was "I thought that we were going to Spain".

I hope this will be easier to market.

Thinking about it I'm getting less concerned with the name of the airline. I bet if I asked people in the Bullring about the name Hainan the vast majority wouldn't have a clue and I don't think there would be many grumbles if they turned up. Primera is a name that should be marketable (unlike Vueling for instance) and a clever ad campaign will hopefully do the job.

One concern I have is getting the travel agents behind this, their support could be key. We're still hearing stories about locals being directed to other airports to fly on airlines such as Qatar and Emirates, which is clearly unacceptable. I hope that local agents will make the travelling public fully aware of their options rather than lazily directing them down the M40.

I'm sure that much work will be done behind the scenes.

Where exactly did you all see the news yesterday? The airport hasn't mentioned it yet on their website which I might have thought they would have wanted to do through coordination with the airline.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
