Was anyone else present on this day -

After landing, reverse thrust was applied. On slowing, reverse thrust was de-selected and immediately there was a huge flash of flame around the engine (the photo was taken seconds after the incident). ATC notified the crew and the aircraft continued to the stand (stand 40 on the old international pier). Once parked, engineers pouring over manuals inspected the engine.
I don't know the decision, but the aircraft departed pretty much on time to an onward UK destination before retuning to BHX and departing for YYZ.

Great to see pictures of the original smaller pier as I don’t really remember it. It couldn’t have lasted long before it was knocked down and replaced by the Eurohub.

Incidentally I’m surprised there doesn’t seem to be any photos of Eurohub being built?

Hi Folks. Many thanks for the comments and the 'likes'.
Appologies for my late reply, but my PC died today. Windows just would not boot. I'm currently on an pld Win XP machine and have spent hours copying all my data from my current hard drive (I 'piggy backed' it onto the Win XP machine).
Looks like I'll have to do a full re-instal of Win 7 on my usual PC (boy, am I dreading that!)
Sorry for going off topic and hope I'm back to normal service soon.

I often wish that they'd kept that pier and built the Eurohub on what is now the car parks. We could have ended up with two decent piers and more terminal space to the south.

Raymond. Thank you for posting the pic of the paper. I kept my copy for years. But threw it out in a clear out about 5 years ago...the then Mrs Butt did not understand why I kept it.

A good read. In my opinion, if someone had the balls to do it, it would make an excellent hotel, with pre-bag drop available, bar & restaurant downstairs, rooms in the body and a viewing bar/lounge where the control tower currently is.
Guests then bussed directly to security.

Boutique Hotel with a quality restaurant overlooking the apron. Given the views it would be packed every day.

In 1980 when I worked for a company in Sutton Coldfield, if I was stopping overnight, I would book a meal in the Airport Restaurant. Now that made it a lot more interesting than eating on your own.

Some interesting airline codes on the departures board. Orion (KG) was well represented. Anyone know who the 'celebrity' was at the end of the clip? I presume it was a celebrity.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
