Bristol: EasyJet Route News & Base Updates

easyJet EZY 6302 from Kittila due 1400 today now eta 2322. Apparently there was a defect to the aircraft at Kittila according to a friend of a friend who is on the flight with his family. I hadn't realised that easyJet was operating to Kittila this season. Last winter they operated on through January into February but, like this year, the flights were not shown in the easyJet booking engine so it must be presumed that they are being operated exclusively for a tour operator or operators.

This appears an addition to the list of Santa flights I listed recently in the charters section. TUI operated their own Kittila flight today. After Christmas it seems the flights are ski flights.

Tomorrow seems to be the day for route announcements. Anyone heard if we may get something new ?

Been reported elsewhere that new routes are to genoa and seville. No details yet

Both now on sale twice weekly tues and sat. Very good news. Was in Seville two years ago - lovely place and would love to revisit plus genoa should do very well with the Italian riviera on the doorstep plus it's a major cruise ship port. The schedule doesn't look complete so is there more to come ?

At a rough count I make 16 aircraft needed now - more to come ?

(Please note, there is an extra increase in based aircraft and flights towards the end of August, but above compares the same week in 2018 that I've compared to over the last few years which is the second week of August).

Later in August, another EZY aircraft joins the BRS base, making it 16 based aircraft.
There are increases on 9 routes with an extra 11 flights per week on top of the flights I've posted above.
There is an extra 2x weekly flights to
BFS & BOD,

and extra 1x weekly flight to
EDI, GLA, KRK, PFO, ACE, CPH & OLB.

There is also a capacity increase on some routes due to an A320 replacing an A319.

Seville would have been on a lot of people's 'why not?' list of unserved easyJet routes from BRS I suspect. Genoa is perhaps more of a surprise. Seat selector shows Genoa on a 319 both days and Seville on a 320 both days. Both routes begin on 2 June but I can find nothing to indicate whether they will be year-round.

I am pretty confident in saying that BRS has never previously had a regular Genoa route. Ryanair tried Seville for three summers between 2009 and 2011, also twice weekly. Apart from being a fine city to visit there is also the Airbus connection between Bristol and Seville althoughI don't know how much liaison there is between the two centres that requires staff to travel between the two.

Is there anything yet on the BRS website? I can't find anything.

I've now had an email from the airport regarding Genoa and Seville but still nothing on the airport website so far as I can see.

I find it strange to have no16 rock up during the third week in august with flights being reduced again in September. Surely there must be more to come ...

It seems very odd. I don't think anything like that has happened at BRS before with easyJet. In the past the additional flights have been from about mid July onwards for the rest of the peak summer.

Is Athens going twice weekly from June 18?

Athens airport is a refreshingly fabulous non rip off airport in the EU. Most food items priced incredibly fairly. Also very compact. Handles 20 million a year so in the BRS ball park but what a difference in terms of trans atlantic routes and far east.

Is it only weekly now?

Apologies. It is friday and monday now. I was convinced it was weekly when it started and i wanted to use it on 1st Jan but could not and booked KLM via AMS. confused now why i didnt go EZY.

Using Athens as a stopover to fly to Singapore using Scoot appears to be an exciting proposition. Cuts out travel to Heathrow. Fares at 190 euro each way economy. Flies tue and sat so will need hotels in Athens on both legs. Will deffo spread this word.

Athens began (with Stockholm) at the beginning of the current winter season:

Mondays BRS:ATH 0630-1220 ATH:BRS 1300-1505*
Fridays BRS:ATH 1300-1850 ATH:BRS 1930-2135

*It will operate on Tues 26 Dec instead of Mon 25 and on Tues 13 March instead of Mon 12

It operates MON and Fri next summer too with slightly amended flight times from the winter.

It seems to be doing very well passenger-wise with some sell-outs already including tomorrow's outbound. The two outbounds after that are now showing over £200 for the sector so most of the seats must have already gone on those too.

It will become very much sought after in the summer when passengers can take ferries to their holiday islands n the Aegean sea. The train connection from airport to ferry terminal terminal s also straight forward.

The southwest will discover the delights of Santorini.

I absolutely love Greece having been to santorini Mykonos Athens and Olympia last summer and it's very good news to see Athens doing so well given its 'low ' season. When the press release on the launch was released there was talk of a lot of demand for the route from the Greek community in the West Country so that certainly will help. The route also upgrades to the a320 next summer so that will boost capacity. One wonders whether easyJet will now look to add the likes of Thessaloniki Rhodes kos Rhodes Mykonos and santorini to the list

There is already a weekly summer flight to Santorini with TUI but Athens will obviously increase the choice when it comes to getting there.

Rhodes and Larnaca have seemed to me to be surprising omissions from the low cost airlines at BRS. I can never recall anyone serving Mykonos from BRS, charter or scheduled, so perhaps it's time someone did.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
