Joined this latest develop rather late so excuse me if this has already been covered:

As far as I can tell it has been suggested that Newark and Boston have had their frequency reduced or start delayed whilst Toronto has been unchanged?

When was the increase in price first spotted? If Toronto has been unchanged and its just Newark and Boston affected, could it perhaps be something to do with the US government "shutdown" and Primera are just being cautious?

With all the advertising that Primera have done and the fact that a lot of Airbus' recent aircraft deliveries have been delayed (Qatar A350-1000 most recently), it feels to me more like this is an aircraft shortage issue rather than a route demand issue.

US Government shutdown ??? Mmmmmm i dont really see the connection to be honest Coathanger. If Primera were that cautious about the USA market becouse of what the Trump government might do over the next 3/4 years, i dont think they would of gone into this venture from the start. Also as far as i can see on the website STN is not effected, only BHX.

I think Coathanger is inferring the the FAA may be unable to sign off on traffic right authorities however even I wouldn’t buy that

Primera appear have a delivery and service entry date disparity for what ever reason.

I think Boston is a goner for 2018 through.

Why don't they just wet lease until the aircraft become available? Or use different aircraft with a tech stop?

I tend to agree. Had any winter schedules been loaded? I can’t recall. Either way, when many larger carriers either cut or reduce frequencies to Boston over the winter months I would be very surprised to see it started from BHX at the end of September.

If the problem is delivery of aircraft I wouldn’t be reading too much into suggestions BHX isn’t performing as well, I think it’s fairly obvious that markets like London and Paris would be stronger.

I would assume that all three of these bases are launching around about the same time, so that requires 6 new a/c for the planned routes, to be delivered and flying commercially in about 3/4 months. And yet the only progress so far is the tail section for the first aircraft... Bit of a tall order is it not?

Also, in terms of routes, I think Paris and London would take priority so BHX would end up suffering from any aircraft delivery delays.

Then again, the rate at which Airbus churn aircraft out these days...

Production rate for the A320 family is roughly 46 per month so in 4 months, we are talking 184 to be produced in that time. If only we knew what the MSN numbers are -all I've found reference for is for 2 A321neoLRs to be leased from AerCap in the last quarter of this year which leaves 6 presumably to be delivered prior to the 4th quarter.

If I were them, I wouldn't be fixated on starting CDG at all. Although a larger market, they will also be the last entrant on transatlantic services out of that area so may need to have discounting going on for a longer period of time to gain traction in the market - to be the 1st in the BHX market should be an objective as then they would secure 100% of all the passengers wanting to travel to the States and Canada from the BHX catchment without them having the need to get onto a motorway to drive south/north or on EI/KL/AF. What they are doing is leaving the door slightly ajar for someone else to come along that may have bigger exposure.

The "shutdown" has been a recent (within the last week) development - "The US Government has gone into a partial shutdown after President Donald Trump and Congress failed to reach agreement on a funding deal that would keep agencies open." Because of this all non-essential 'public sector' staff will be stood down until funding is agreed upon.

Statue of Liberty has been shut down

Suggestions that many museums - popular with tourists - will have to be shut as the staff that run them are deemed non-essential.

It still sounds to me more like this is to do with aircraft delivery delays, just a bit of a coincidence that this revelation surfaced at the same time as the US Government '"shutdown" & Toronto was unaffected. Alas what do I know I'm not an expert.

I don't think that the US government shutdown has anything to do with this. If it had, similar cut backs would be seen at both STN and CDG.
I'm tending to agree that this looks like aircraft delivery delays (who is to blame for these, remains open to debate).

Simply on grounds of cost. I would imagine that at the fares offered by Premera Air, they would need to see a very high load factor to be in profit. Any additional costs will cut into this. Therefore it is probably better for the airline to cut the least profitable routes (short term), than to incur higher costs and make losses.

I suspect the same. Just a remarkable coincidence that these events happened at the same time and its only affected US routes from BHX and not Canadian ones.

People outside the airline world appear not to be aware of the issues at Primera. A local radio station is advertising the local delights of Boston via Primera on Twitter.

The fact that there has been no adverse publicity is their comfort blanket at the moment with only those within the airline industry and websites such as this understanding there are problems. But once the media hounds get their teeth into it they will rip it to shreads, just like Monarch.

Primera have probably one day to get its house in order, they must be pro-active and come out strongly explain the real and true situation with regard to long haul. If they don't they risk losing everything, include the short haul routes they have recently announced.

I wish i could be more positive as regards Primera, but i can't....

Are you able to expand on the issues at Primera? would be grateful if that is possible as most posts on here are speculation mine included.

I have phoned Primera this morning re my own flights (whose dates are now non operational)
to be told they don't know what I'm talking about and " where did i get that information from"
This really isn't good enough. What chance does an airline have, confidence wise, when it doesn't
tell the truth from the start. I despair!!!

That's appalling! So did they say your flight is operating?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
