I woudnt be surprised, there LF out of BHX is hardly out of this world.

Anyone know what Emirates load factors were like during their second year of operations into BHX? Would be interesting to compare the two and might give an indication of how much Qatar is likely to grow at BHX.

Lack of aircraft? That old chestnut again? The same airline that had all those spare aircraft sitting around doing nothing when Monarch collapsed.

We’re still waiting for the 8th weekly flight to be reinstated that was temporarily cut over 18 months ago due to “lack of aircraft”. If QR reduce I doubt that’s the reason and I’d be concerned that it might not just be for May/June.

Apparently they are having problems fitting the Q suite to the A350 1000s causing the delays.

Yes i agree, as you say Lack of aircraft ????

And then they launch unusual new routes from Doha to Mykonos, yes Mykonos of all places, LOL
Qatar Airways from May 2018 is expanding service to Greece, with the introduction of Doha – Mykonos nonstop service. Commencing on 30MAY18, Airbus A320 aircraft will operate this route 4 times a week.

QR311 DOH0705 – 1200JMK 320 3
QR311 DOH0805 – 1300JMK 320 467

QR312 JMK1300 – 1740DOH 320 3
QR312 JMK1400 – 1840DOH 320 467

The aircraft "lying around" are A320 which Qatar had used to serve destinations in the ME they have now been banned from flying to.

Why they chose Mykonos of all places I don't know, but that can be reached from Doha easily with an A320. The UK on the other hand can't.

Long haul passengers tend to max out on their checked in luggage. I don't believe the A320 would be suitable for ops to the UK with that in mind. Shorter runs to Mykonos might work with a reduced fuel requirement.

Isn't Mykonos for the more up market holiday maker and popular with the LGBT community? So i'd have thought they would be looking at rich Arabs, Chinese and SE Asians and the LGBT communities of Australia and New Zealand.

As far as I am aware Qatar isn't known for being very supportive of the LGBT community so I'm not too sure Qatar will be openly seeking to enter that market.

They may not be supportive but i doubt they wouldn't want the LGBT community not using their network to travel to destinations such as Mykonos.

Qatar will be in the Mailbox on the 15th and 16th promoting their Business Class product as well as celebrating their second anniversary of the BHX route :)

On 15th and 16th February, Qatar Airways and Birmingham Airport are bringing a luxury experiential activity to Birmingham. From 9am to 7pm visitors at The Mailbox shopping centre will have the chance to enjoy the world’s best Business Class seat.

The event will take place at Birmingham’s premium shopping centre to celebrate the second anniversary of the start of Qatar Airways’ flights from Birmingham in 2016.

Nothing new in this article but gives some insight into the onward destinations from Doha. BHX gets a few mentions in the main write up but just stating the current services and a picture of the original launch which was their most recent from the UK

The last route that Qatar Airways launched to the UK was Birmingham in March 2016, with the inaugural flight being greeted with a water arch salute on arrival. Next UK destinations on the cards for Qatar Airways are Cardiff (1 May) and London Gatwick (22 May). In terms of connecting traffic with the airline, the top destinations are Bangkok, Colombo and Perth, with these three accounting for 16% of all connecting traffic from the UK last year based on MIDT data.

Interesting list.

I'm surprised that Hong Kong is so far down the list and only Amritsar from India! No Mumbai or Delhi?

Out of the 4 UK airports that Qatar fly to, both LHR and MAN have direct flights to Hong Kong. The 2 that don't are BHX and EDI which both have other ME airlines offering competition (Emirates and Etihad respectively) - could play a part...?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
