Jerry with exception of KLM ( and that’s only because off their Shell contract along the east coast) the major legacies UK spoke offerings are dire beyond the 4 largest regionals.
They certainly do NOT connect into the smaller centres that just not true.
And as for KLM from those smaller centres in particular their fares can be mind numbing !
They do offer some reasonable fares via the consolidators from time to time but don’t expect flexibility in your itinerary either.
Again the regionals are the home of the flexible fares and point to point operators these days.
These carriers also provide far more local employment opportunities than those legacies have ever done.
Other than mileage runs ( another myth as they cost you up front on those business fares) to earn status and rewards (bribes) the legacies offer little on short haul other than INCONVENIENCE and longer travel times via intermediate points imho.
But do note my point was should not be encouraged!
Clearly KARFA and Bingley might prefer jobs for Hounslow Spelthorne , Hillingdon and Slough then ( code)
Fact is BA in particular haven’t yet proven real commitment to Leeds have they !
I have to say it's a new one on me to suggest one should book a carrier based on how many people they employ near my local airport, it would rather restrict my travel as I would only be able to go to LS destinations
Of course people can choose what airline they want to book with for a trip based on many factors. Whilst some prefer U2/FR/LS, there may be reasons some prefer the likes of LH/KL/BA/AF. I appreciate you have a strong opinion against legacy carriers, that is your prerogative of course, everyone has different priorities and view points when it comes to choosing. As noted though, if heading to major cities in Europe there really aren't that many options from LBA so connecting somewhere or driving over to MAN is inevitable. When going long haul there are a few options from MAN but frankly most places I go are not conveniently served from there so a connection through a hub is needed.
Anyway to try and bring it back on topic for this thread, BA have been at LBA for nearly 6 years now. As unfortunate as the cuts in April have been, they could have quite easily just pulled the plug on the route. They haven't done that so hopefully this does suggest some level of commitment. As noted up thread the loads do seem to be improving and hitting record highs since April so hopefully that encourages them to continue the route.
