Jerry with exception of KLM ( and that’s only because off their Shell contract along the east coast) the major legacies UK spoke offerings are dire beyond the 4 largest regionals.

They certainly do NOT connect into the smaller centres that just not true.

And as for KLM from those smaller centres in particular their fares can be mind numbing !

They do offer some reasonable fares via the consolidators from time to time but don’t expect flexibility in your itinerary either.

Again the regionals are the home of the flexible fares and point to point operators these days.
These carriers also provide far more local employment opportunities than those legacies have ever done.

Other than mileage runs ( another myth as they cost you up front on those business fares) to earn status and rewards (bribes) the legacies offer little on short haul other than INCONVENIENCE and longer travel times via intermediate points imho.

But do note my point was should not be encouraged!

Clearly KARFA and Bingley might prefer jobs for Hounslow Spelthorne , Hillingdon and Slough then ( code)

Fact is BA in particular haven’t yet proven real commitment to Leeds have they !

I have to say it's a new one on me to suggest one should book a carrier based on how many people they employ near my local airport, it would rather restrict my travel as I would only be able to go to LS destinations :)

Of course people can choose what airline they want to book with for a trip based on many factors. Whilst some prefer U2/FR/LS, there may be reasons some prefer the likes of LH/KL/BA/AF. I appreciate you have a strong opinion against legacy carriers, that is your prerogative of course, everyone has different priorities and view points when it comes to choosing. As noted though, if heading to major cities in Europe there really aren't that many options from LBA so connecting somewhere or driving over to MAN is inevitable. When going long haul there are a few options from MAN but frankly most places I go are not conveniently served from there so a connection through a hub is needed.

Anyway to try and bring it back on topic for this thread, BA have been at LBA for nearly 6 years now. As unfortunate as the cuts in April have been, they could have quite easily just pulled the plug on the route. They haven't done that so hopefully this does suggest some level of commitment. As noted up thread the loads do seem to be improving and hitting record highs since April so hopefully that encourages them to continue the route.

Going down to London to watch the England vs Japan game on Saturday November 17th at the home of Rugby Union Twickenham. So I've gone and booked myself onto the British Airways Shuttle (£85 Return) seen as its far cheaper (£115 day return) than using the East Coast LNER Train service

BA1347 = LBA 11:05 - LHR 12:15 Saturday, November 17th (Airbus A319)
BA1346 = LHR 09:25 - LBA 10:25 Sunday, November 18th (Airbus A320)

So according to GDS tomorrow's loads look like this:
BA1340 northbound and BA1345 southbound well loaded but still in excess of 15 seats available on both. BA1341 has just 14 available seats and BA1344 a mere 7. Not three bad from where I am sat. If I get chance later I will try and post some of the other carriers loadings for tomorrow. The only route not looking close to the great loads on most others is SOU, but then it is as I keep saying school holidays and a business route so no surprises. Anything will be posted under Flybe if I get the chance.

And you get to fly back on the A320. Twickenham is ideally placed too for Heathrow - more so than Kings Cross. Not sure if it still operates but way back I used to catch the 33 bus from Twickenham to Hounslow, then on to the A1 Airport Express bus, although I do also recall that there was a bus from Heathrow to Twickenham via Hatton Cross. £85 is a very decent return fare in my view.

Breaking news is that it looks like British Airways has suffered a security breach of website. It may effect anyone who has booked flights between 22:58 August 21 2018 & 21:45 September 5 2018

Brilliant, you have the wit of a genius.

I've just recived a email from British Airways this moring saying for operational reasons, they had to change the prebooked seat I had on one of the flights I had booked with them.
Took a look and noticed its the LHR-LBA BA1346 on Sunday, November 18 that's being changed from A320 to A319.

So it looks like they have started to make the predicted changes for the winter 2018/2019 schedule, so where flights which were showing A321/A320 have now reverted back on to the A319 as normal.

Oh well. .

Oh well. .

The bookings I have in December and January which were on an A321 are still showing that atm. Unfortunately you only get that email if the aircraft type change also means your seat changes - if your seat number stays the same you get no email so I have manually checked through mine just in case.

Whether mine remain as A321s or get changed back at some stage to A319s who knows!

Thanks LBAspotter. That mirrors the checks I did in GDS yesterday until I found a non A319 flight and that being 07Dec with an A320 and A321 respectively. Whether we get 319s, 320s or 321s on the flights we shall wait and see but at least we are keeping our token offering for another season at least

British Airways have just offered me upgrade to club Europe on me flight from Leeds to Heathrow on Saturday November 17th.
Is it worth the extra expense and do you get lounge access at LBA?

I am guessing a £59 promotional upgrade on MMB? You would get all the usual club europe benefits if you take it. Sorry if you know some of this already, but i thought I would just note it all.

  • access to business class check in desks, obviously not relevant if you are not doing bag drop
  • fast track security, although unusually LBA gives all BA passengers access to fast track anyway so not a benefit here
  • access to the lounge, in this case you get the white rose suite
  • usually priority boarding, but because of the practical issues at LBA they don't do priority boarding anyway. however, being in CE you really do not need to worry about getting on early since there are fewer people in the CE cabin so you won't struggle to find space in the overhead
  • free meal and drink onboard, as this is a circa 1120 departure you get brunch. they have just changed the whole of CE catering so I can't show you a photo, however I will be having that in a few weeks time so can post then. also teas, coffee, alcohol including champagne, soft drinks etc.
  • CE cabin is the same 3x3 seats but the middle seat B an E are blocked and there is a table across it. The pitch is no different in CE vs ET, but ideally get a row 1 seat and you will have some more room. Row 1 is held back for golds until 3 days before, but once you get past that point if 1A/C/D/F are still available anyone in the CA cabin can select them
  • increased avios and tier point earning, avios depends on what status level you are so 750 if blue, 875 if bronze, 1000 if silver, and 1250 if gold. tier points will be 40 regardless of status.

And I think that's it. Whether it is worth it is very subjective and personal, some would vehemently say no, some would say yes. I often do taken the upgrade on the LBA route, but sometimes I don't.

Hope that helps.

@lbaspotter this is the last piece of the jigsaw to your question you asked about whether to take the upgrade. Friend of mine was on the BA1341 today and shared the following. Basically two choices were available. The menus apparently will rotate every few weeks so it’s possible you won’t specifically get these two, but it gives you a good idea of generally what you would get.

Also as noted a full bar will be available. LBA (and MAN) should be an easy 1 mini bottle of champagne. You should be able to manage 2 without too much rushing. It’s possible to do 3 but a short hold at LHR and use of a plastic cup for landing may be needed to accomplish that :)

Low 90's on this morning's BA1340.

Airport ghostly quiet with departure board showing a 4 hour gap between the BA departing back to LHR and then DUS ~ 15:00. Winter here we come :-(

Probably at a level where BA want it to be. Let's hope they see this meant they scaled back just a little too much. Night stopper anyone........oh we have been over that argument before. Commitment to LBA anyone.......oh they are not the only ones. Get that any operation has to be profitable but correct marketing and a bit of speculating to accumulate can work wonders

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
