No I was just talking about Turkish and added that as a point of interest as they are adding UK points so BHX might get them at some point
in future

And very grateful we would be,Unfortunately when posters whose main interest are obviously other airports post comments like this it comes across as yaa boo look what we have and you havn't. In my opinion it also undermines the appeal of the forum which is mainly local people discussing their local airport. It will become another dried fruit forum.
There are obviously well known posters from other airports who make a contribution without conveying that message.

58terminus makes a valid point. My focus of interest in BHX in every way it operates; flights, development, connectivity indeed anything that makes the place tick. I really do not have any interest in other airports, what they do 'upt north is of no interest to me and when we are continually drip fed with information about new routes up there, i find it quite irksome. And 58terminus is quite right this sort of thing slowly undermines the appeal of this forum. We are a happy bunch of brothers in BHX so lets keep it that way. And i hope you are a happy bunch of brothers up north too so just keep your good news to yourself....

I keep very upto date with what is happening at many airports around the country especially BHX as they are very similar to Manchester
and a place that I tend to visit quite often though not so much recently due to time constraints and would love to be able to pop down to see the many small cargo carriers that seem to visit BHX for the car industry, being a Londoner esconsed up north as you say
I tend to find that many of the airlines we get at Manchester tend to follow suit at BHX and it also works the other way with Air India
and to actually reconfirm what I said this morning I can see Pegasus coming to BHX in the next year or so as it serves a different market
from Turkish.
As a side I quite often see the likes of Air India in decent to BHX so am always glad to keep up with what is happening just as I am often being asked the same questions by Birmingham spotters of Manchester or do you just wish to keep it to yourselves

No they are not.MAN is leagues ahead of BHX. Has been for 50+ years and is increasing the gap all the time.A quick comparison on Google Earth will confirm this without bothering with statistics.
That is the opinion of someone who is a realist and is not bothered about scoring points off smaller airports. .

Please can I ask that, as is normal on this forum, we keep things civilised. I'm sure that "mullion" had no intention of making this an "us versus you" or vice versa debate, however I do understand your consensus that this is a Birmingham thread and therefore any other discussion should be kept to a minimum - however there may be occasions when reference to another airport can lead to healthy debate.

So, to sum it up, please don't let this downgrade into a "Dried Fruit" style argument. We're all old enough to know that we don't want to upset each other. Let's continue to keep F4A as one of the friendliest, if not THE friendliest of aviation forums.

Rather than replying in the "Expected movements" thread I will post here....

The Istanbul hub is perfectly placed geographically to pickup pax travelling from Europe to Saudi Arabia and does not require backtracking as with the big Middle Eastern airlines.

Add to the above a twice daily frequency from BHX plus Turkish Airlines serving both the main two airports for Hajj/Umrah in Jeddah and Madinah, they very quickly become a popular choice.

I would like to think the RD team have Jeddah in the top 10 long haul list of targets.

Looking at annual pax BHX-IST

2018 = 145,539
2017 = 133,434
2016 = 138,778
2015 = 139,296)
2014 = 118,890
2013 = 110,224
2012 = 83,990
2011 = 52,875
2010 = 46,053
2009 = 43,946
2008 = 2,006

Looking a little deeper into the figures provided by Ian (thanks Ian (y)), I came up with the following percentage changes, year on year.

2018 = 145,539 + 9.07%
2017 = 133,434 - 3.85%
2016 = 138,778 - 0.37%
2015 = 139,296 + 17.16%
2014 = 118,890 + 7.86%
2013 = 110,224 + 31.24%
2012 = 83,990 + 58.85%
2011 = 52,875 + 18.81%
2010 = 46,053 + 4.80%
2009 = 43,946 + 2090.73%
2008 = 2,006

2018 v 2015 = + 4.42%

2018 v 2009 = + 231.18%

My method, is to take one year and subtract the previous years figure. The result is then divided by that previous years figure and multiplied by 100 to give a percentage.

I also looked at the latest figures against the last +ve growth year, hence 2018 v 2015.

I have also compared 2018 with 2009 (which I assume to be the first full year of operation - yes, I'm aware of frequency changes over the years, mostly positive, but the 737MAX problems have reduced frequency recently). This gives a huge 231.18% growth in ten years.

Regards

Kevin

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
