I read Etihad are interested in buying a stake so going by their track record it could be the kiss of death for Air India.
And possibly the kiss of death for direct Indian flights. Look what happened with TATL flights when BHX started flirting with little known not yet got the right aircraft airlines. Of course i don't know how much if any encouragment BHX has given them but ido hope they have learned from past mistakes.

Etihad taking a stake. They are not that daft.

If this airline serves the Russia routes alone and builds up good loads, then bring it on.

But two possible scenarios:

Will people really travel via Moscow to connect to Amristar when they can fly direct? Plus the Indian population will carry on demanding their national airline.

Or

Is the prospect of Air India from Stansted ready to hoover up the closure of the BHX routes if the Russia connections take off?

I am firmly 50/50...ish...but swaying towards the negative on this.

they’ve been willing to fly indirect from BHX-ATQ via Turkmenistan and Qatar for the last 3 years whilst they’ve been able
to fly direct so why wouldn’t we assume that willingness isn’t going to continue.?!? The loads on the AI direct routes are commonly in the 80% which suggest the direct route isnt able to satisfy demand so until AI are willing to increase frequencies, why not let other airlines have a piece of the cake!

Next week there is due to be announcements from Flybe/virgin & Easyjet..... again nothing specific to BHX ..... but if there is - I only hope we gain more flights than we lose !

I can't see it being AMS at 2 x weekly. More likely a leisure/city-break route. Could KEF be a possibility?

Kevin
They don't have a base at KEF. They do have several bases in France which could be ideal city break destinations Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes and Nice. They also have a bases at Porto and Lisbon in Portugal, Venice and Milan in Italy and Barcelona in Spain which would all be good city break destinations.

Nothing to stop a W pattern however, such as LGW-CPH-BHX-CPH-LGW. Due to duty length flight would have to be about 2 hours to 2h 30m max so does limit scope slightly.

A routing such as BFS-BHX-XXX-BHX-BFS would allow for a slightly longer destination.

As the current and announced routes are all served by away based aircraft, I suspect any new route would also be though.

If it is Naples, at least it is something different. I had a gut feeling they would launch flights to Malaga or Alicante ;)

However I really would love to know how airlines make these decisions, do they just stick a pin on a map and pick routes that way ? How did they come to the conclusion that Naples is a good route to serve from BHX ?

Southern Italy is a popular holiday destination not just for city breaks but beaches as well and Naples is a cruise port with TUI basing at least one ship there. Do TUI operate Naples from BHX?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
