If Emirates decision makers are watching the uncontrolled crowds on our beaches and more localised lockdowns, they not return until next year. The UK is not considered a safe country medically and I despair at the attitude of some people that consider personal rights and freedoms more important than the general health of the national good.
You really think that labour would be doing a better job, especially with who would have been the prime minister..... Corbyn !!!!!!!!!when policy makers flout their own policies this is what you get, how can such an irresponsible government led by an unelected puppet master be in a position to expect the people it governs to respect its muddled authority?
Considering India and Australia are basically closed to foreigners at the moment, a large proportion of the passengers that usually fly with Emirates wouldn't be flying even if Emirates was currently serving BHX.
Because of those and other countries essentially being closed, there simply isn't enough demand yet to warrant restarting flights to BHX. Those that do want to travel can via LHR or MAN, thereby helping those routes remain profitable.
Option A, serve:
LHR, 80% LF, Profitable
MAN, 80% LF, Profitable
or
Option B, serve:
LHR, 50% LF, Not Profitable
MAN, 50% LF, Not Profitable
BHX, 50% LF, Not Profitable
No business would (or should) choose option B.
As I said a few weeks ago EK would rather send BHX customers to London or Manchester as LF's are very lowSorry, I'm going to be that annoying arse and say why though?
Why is there currently no market / option / desire to fly from Birmingham but a market suddenly re-appears in both London and Manchester? Even bloody Glasgow for that matter. Who decides this? The same people who decide that they wont sell F seats on the Birmingham flight? Who has decided everyone from Birmingham is poor and can't afford first class and yet everyone in Manchester only flies F or J?
If, like you say, India and Australia are closed as you put it, where is everyone flying from M, L and G (as already written, CBA writing the cities out again) flying to? Everyone on those flights live and work in Dubai? But nobody in the Midlands and our catchment area does? Cobblers!! (not directed at you, its just a lame excuse)
Spot on Coathanger16Regardless of which countries are open or closed, demand is down.
Pre-Covid, Heathrow and Manchester were busier routes than BHX, probably with a better yield too.
Simply put, at the moment there's not enough demand from the UK as a whole to warrant Emirates serving more than 3 destinations. Resume BHX too soon, loads at LHR & MAN would fall, and yields across BHX, MAN and LHR would be too low to be profitable. Serving LHR, MAN and GLA allows Emirates better coverage of the UK vs replacing one of those 3 with BHX.
Replace LHR with BHX - never going to happen. London's a bigger market than the rest of the UK combined.
Replace GLA with BHX - Scotland not served at all.
Replace MAN with BHX - forgetting about London & Scotland, MAN is more convenient for more passengers than BHX.
As for First? It's a dying market and was before Covid. Are there passengers in the Midlands who would fly First? Probably. Enough for multiple flights per week, every week of the year? I doubt it. For those that are precious enough about flying First, its available from Heathrow and on some Manchester flights.
