I don't see why not, Emirates like the 5th freedom routes where US mainline carriers think they know better than to offer a consistent year-round service and I know Qatar Airways are planning Milan-New York

Hi there all, after reading all these reports about possible future routes if they do come available, if Emirates operates Birmingham to dubai, why not do a trial run of Birmingham to USA,see how it goes...AndyC

well for the following reasons, Emirates would not service the USA from BHX:-

1... They don't even see demand for first class on the Dubai route, so would not offer first class on a USA service, and first class is where the profit is on TA routes, how will they make any money?

2... Why would Emirates pick BHX over LHR, LGW or MAN?

3... Filling a B777 (or an A350) from BHX to the USA would be an impossible task! Only current aircraft that might be viable is the A321LR

4... Emirates fly to the USA from Dubai non stop, so passengers from Dubai would not want to take a flight that has a stop in BHX, its not convenient for them.

5... if the USA flight was not an extension of the Dubai service, aircraft, crew, ground crew, maintenance, handling costs etc would be far too expensive to justify the service.

6... in the current climate, no airline would take such a risk, will be years before any airline would consider such a move.

I can only personally see any future BHX-USA flight being operated by a USA or UK airline. I would much rather see Emirates concentrate on the Dubai service over the next few years.

Athens is more skewered to summer flying wihch is why the US majors focused in on that only with EK taking the view that there is a year-round market. I don't know how full the DXB-JFK non-stops are but it just strikes me that if BHX-DXB is being filled and one of the DXB-JFK is partially filled they could then add at with minimal risk the extra BHX-DXB servces that look like could be needed and launch a route with no competition in BHX-JFK to help fill a partially full DXB-JFK sector.

Hi there all, just had an email reply back from Mr Tom Screen on behalf of Mr Nick Barton at Birmingham Airport, who stated that Birminghams Airport growth is nothing to do with pricing or strategy issues..AndyC

Hi there Ian, by denying pricing strategy doesn't affect an airlines decision to fly from any particular is the reason,i find that hard to believe, simply because Specific deals that airports offer airlines and pricing is a major factor that will affect any airline setting up routes from an airport, because whatever deals are agreed by both parties, will have a major affect on how much any airline will charge for return or one way flights, or whether it is viable to run that route at all, too expensive and it will run at loss...

BHX of course do deals with airlines if they didn't Wizz, Ryanair, easyjet would not be here !
But what they wont do is 'prostitute itself to airlines' - Paul Kehoe's words not mine which he quoted when talking about deals offered be a certain airport to attract a new long haul airline !

Nothing wrong with a little metaphorical ‘prostituting’ if it gets you where you need to be in the world of business. I get the feeling the world of ‘airports’ isn’t fair or a level playing field and sometimes you need to do things as a business to get on & compete

So was looking through some things the other day and noticed that easyJet seem to be opening seasonal bases in Faro and Malaga. Given someones cryptic remark about not discounting easyJet for S21, I wonder if we may see flights (from) there with easyJet...

Hardly groundbreaking in which routes they are, but it would be a step closer to a base from easyJet and could maybe change easyJets view that they can't get yield from the midlands.

Shame we didn’t woo Aer Lingus for those new JFK and Boston routes at Manchester airport. Would have been perfect for BHX with the A321neos! I wonder who BHX have approached to serve transatlantic? I really feel with the right frequency and times any operator could do really well. Would be good to change the monopoly of airlines assuming by basing them selves north/south they have the Midlands covered. We are pretty much in the centre of the country, accessible to everyone!

Maybe Derry to follow at some point?

Steve Frazer, in an interview with the ‘Journal’, said he is planning to enter discussions on this in the coming weeks and said he also wanted to see a return of the popular Manchester and Birmingham routes post-COVID.

I seem to remember City of Derry Airport being in discussions with Flybe for a while. I wonder if they'll target Ryanair for a return to the route or go after Loganair?

With the IOM looking likely to return I wonder if BHX could get back flights to NQY.

Biblio Travel, which has received £41 million backing from its parent company, will charter aircraft for the UK market, and will fly into Cypriot resorts from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, with additional capacity from Heathrow. Further destinations will be added later.

Judging by the latest ACL update by @Scottie Dog on the MAN thread, we can expect to get the schedule and aircraft type for the Biblio flights in the public domain at some point in the near future.

Evening all. I have decided to make a new thread, “Airline and Airport Correspondence” so that members can continue posting the results of their own correspondence with airlines and join in any resulting speculation.

Hopefully the separate threads will make it easier for members to refer back to solid rumours from airlines, the airport, or any other sources that are typically a reliable indicator of new routes, without trawling through pages of speculative discussion.

The new thread is here

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
