Did you catch my post on the election thread? Its worth doing some research about the individual candidates. Just a quick Google of their name along with LBA and you'll see if they have publicly stated their views on the airport or anything else you're concerned about.

Yes I did thank you. But they differ in terms of where people live to confuse the matter even more.

The government needs to be seen to be addressing environmental issues, which in turn wins votes. I think that a scheme such as LBA that involves getting shut of an old wreck of a terminal with a super duper new environmentally friendly terminal will be looked on more favourable than an airport looking at a runway extension to facilitate larger aircraft. I do wonder if long term the APD may get substantially increased to (A) – reduce the incentive for the typical Jones’s to fly off to Marbella for a week and, (B) – to raise capital to invest in more environmentally friendly transport solutions, such as HS2 and NPR.

Exactly LBAs plans are to build a super eco friendly terminal, right from the start LCC and the government should of looked at this with a positive approach. Its just awful the way they think but hey thats councillors and people of so called power for you, own self interest and not a clue what goes on in the real world, it angers me so much!

I have posted the following comment to The Wharfedale;

"GALBA the masters of deception and lies alleging misinformation. The hypocrisy is preposterous. Mr Foren, Wheatpeas et al need to take some antipsychotic medication. Expansion to 7m pax has already been approved. What do these ignoramuses not understand about this?" Short but sweet.

The Conservative MP for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough, Stuart Andrew has finally said something publicly regards LBA's planning application which is currently in the hands of the Secretary of State. Whilst not 100% positive at least he is onboard.

As I read it he wants the new terminal, but not any extra flights.

So how do you square a new terminal with the already approved 7 million passengers per year. How do they do that if no extra flights? Could this be a case of discriminating against the airport by saying you cannot grow anymore whilst the approval up to 7m. is in place and other neighbouring airports can expand, eg, DSA. I can see the argument if LBA WAS up to the limit but it is not yet there and maybe several years at that. Also, would it be fair to allow the new terminal to be built but restrict operating hours thereby making new operators and routes not viable. Imagine saying to Lufthansa, yes come we want links to Frankfurt, only you cannot operate until 8am.
It only seems fair and reasonable to me to allow the new terminal to be built, alterations to operating hours amended, and new environmentally improved transport links introduced. Then when the airport reaches its 7 million limit AND a nationwide aviation policy is thrashed out, treating aviation with other polluting forms of transport, etc then a decision about the future of LBA can be decided along with DSA, MAN, MME, NCL EMA etc etc.

As a resident living close to the airport I have just responded with the following

"Mr Wheatpeas really has taken himself to a new level if he feels the need to try to prevent local people who support the airport from venting their views by posting here.

I live close to the airport and I also live well within the catchment area for the Wharfedale Observer so I feel more than happy to offer a few words of support for my local airport which provides so many local jobs for the surrounding areas.

It's somewhat hypocritical of the anti airport branch of Extinction Rebellion to come on here from far and wide to dictate to others what they can and can't support.

Any follower of airport related news here will be sure to notice Mr Wheatpeas negative input to every airport related news item on the Wharfedale Observer.

The choice to those of us who have the facts is very clear, please feel free to fact - check them with Leeds City Planners if you so desire.

The facts are that the airport still has permission to expand with two previously passed plans, plans that are fully signed off and don't require government approval. The plans allow for addition growth from 4mppa to 7mppa achieved by a new arrivals hall and departure extension to the East of the terminal and a new extension to the front of the building. It's also worth noting permission was also granted to convert the temporary structure used by Jet2 into a more permanent one.

I appreciate not everyone will be happy with this but I am afraid you should have fought your campaign against those plans during the planning process.

The airport made the decision to build a replacement terminal building instead of pursuing with its previous plans to further add to the 1960s inefficient building. The airport made the decision to plan for a new state of the art replacement terminal that meets today's standards and will one that will be also be carbon neutral.

Crucially the new terminal will offer no further capacity increases beyond what was previously passed.

Whatever your view, nobody can change the fact that the previous plans were passed and so long as the new replacement terminal plans are not fulfilled, the airport can continue with its previous plans at any point.

So if you are successful in pursuing this anti airport campaign, you will leave the airport with no alternative other than to build the previously passed buildings to reach its objectives of 7mppa.

It's a clear choice, 7mppa with a new carbon neutral terminal or 7mppa with two further extensions to the exsisting terminal.

GALBA has lead a disingenuous campaign in distorting the truth. They keep telling people that cancelling the new proposals will mean no more airport expansion, in reality it will mean two further extensions that won't be able to offer the same service level delivery but will still enable the same growth to 7mppa.

GALBA also fail to tell you facts such as current co2 emissions from aviation stand at just 2% globally with the other 98% of man-made emissions being land-based. I know this doesn't mean we should ignore aviation emissions, but reducing carbon emissions will mainly need to be achieved by cutting ground based emissions to achieve the targets now being made."

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
