I think if airports like BHX are too regain scheduled services to the USA in the future from American carriers their focus may well have to be more on how the airport and the area it served can be attractive to US tourists like the Scottish airports are rather than Brits flying to the US.

Condor- Larnaca to Birmingham.

Departs: LCA-08:55 Arrives: BHX-11:55
Departs- BHX-13:15 Arrives: LCA- 19:45

Flights start 21st July 2x weekly Wed/Sat. These flights are for a travel company called Biblio travel.

They’ve pushed this route back again. It’s now planned to start on September 22nd. But rumours on twitter that it might not start till 2023.

Has nobody told them that the UK is pretty much a no go zone when it comes to travelling abroad in S21 so why airlines are "clinging on" and expecting September to be any different is anyone's guess.

Hi there Brumx, I totally agree, but bhx management and routes team are always to slow to see an opportunity for expansion, when they do finally do, then the opportunity disappears, too little to late.Whereas other airports have this attitude of early bird catches early worn, Birmingham Airport has never had this attitude at all.

BHX Star Alliance Airlines & Affiliates Route Resumptions & New Route Start Dates

Air India- ATQ resumes on 4th September, initially 1x Weekly, set to increase from October. Winter schedule still TBC.

Austrian- VIE doesn't look set to operate before summer schedule 2022.

Brussels Airlines- BRU resumes 6th September, operating 1 flight every Monday, Friday & Sunday. Increasing to 1x daily from 4th October.

Eurowings- New PRG service starts on 1st November, 3x Weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Lufthansa- MUC service returns on 13th September operating 5x Weekly Mon -Fri.

SAS- CPH resumes on 31st October for Winter schedule currently set to resume as regular 12x Weekly CR9. I think we can expect a gradual phased return from beginning of October similar to last year's return.

SWISS- ZRH resumes on 3rd September, initially 2x Weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

I totally agree BHX needs more airlines flights and airport space to expand - fingers crossed Management realise this when Birmingham Common Wealth Games come to Birmingham 2022

I think it will require the United Nations to open an office in Birmingham to get BHX to wake up. Every time the Americans turn up with C5's full of vehicles and the secret service teams little space will be left for the Presidential transport planes at the current site even when normal traffic is suspended.

How did they manage the time Clinton dropped by?

This continuous moaning about BHX is all rubbish, the route development talk to all airlines and pre COVID travelled all over the World for face to face meetings.
If an airlines is not interested in BHX it simply wont come and stick with its London & Manchester policy.
BHX has been talking to Finnair for 25 years and they still dont show any interest !
We have got to accept that BHX is too close to London & Manchester.
What the airport need to do is continue to change peoples travelling habits and encourage them to fly from BHX
Our leakage to other airports has always been bad.

Really interesting article and basically confirms the idea that routes with greater frequency will be more successful than say twice weekly flights. Hopefully Amsterdam is successful for easyjet and encourages them to look at other underserved routes!

If I am moaning about BHX, and I admit to it, it is because I care about what I consider inertia. We cannot and should not blame Covid or Brexit forever, I detect a reactive rather than a proactive management. Lose a service? Oh never mind chaps, another one will come along. The fish is good today, What? They did well to attract Jet2 to fill the gaps following the demise of Monarch and others withdrawing patronage but that was exceptional, not the normal way of things.

I am not as strident as Sherburnflyer92, I try to be measured in my posts but I support him in the emotional way he opines himself on the current Government and their performance concerning travel restrictions and the troubles unloaded upon the aviation industry.

Not a criticism In anyway but just to put the record straight Jet2 were attracted to BHX before the sad demise of Monarch the timeline being Jet2 announced route details in July 2016, commencing operations with four aircraft in March 2017, Monarch ceased operations in October 2017.
I've always believed but have no evidence that Jet2s move into Birmingham and Stansted put the final nail in Monarchs Coffin so if anything the BHX management at the time may have been ahead of the game as Monarch's financial troubles were well signposted.

Meanwhile it looks like BA are set to go ahead with a lo-cost airline out of Gatwick maybe down the line BHX could get a sniff presumably the route development team are aware.

Long shot to say the least but if you don't buy a raffle ticket?

BA starting a low-cost airline. I seem to remember that happening before. I wonder if it will end up as part of easyJet as the previous one did.

The nails were already in place being slowly tapped downwards over the years due to poor management. Jet2 at BHX and STN had nothing to do with it, Monarch was already sinking rapidly. 2014 was the big hammer starting to drive them home after greybull took the realms.
