I wonder if BHX will be attending? Since we lost our Milan connection it’s not like they can fly directly there is it lol!
BHX usually attend the World Routes meeting and have a reputation of serving curry to guests to their stand.

Please tell me that’s a joke? I’m struggling to see the funny side!!
No, it's not a joke, it's meant to encourage airline reps to visit the BHX stand (Birmingham having a strong association with Indian food). I've seen photos posted on previous World Routes reports and I think on the official Birmingham Airport website.

Im actually shocked! Yes give them curry, that will give them the true taste of Birmingham! How stupid of me to think Birmingham’s brand could be of anything more at an international trade fair! I hope it came with branded napkins with the slogan ‘more canals than Venice’. That will get the airlines lining up!!

Venice is not Birmingham, prettier and unique. Our canals are industrial relics in comparison with no tourist offerings to attract anyone and I bet it's as dirty as it was when I was at school. As for curry, I find it vile stuff, smelly and unhealthy but I drift again off topic.

Things are beginning to hot up at World Routes, as the winner of Birmingham Airport’s ‘Hello Curry’ competition will be served to industry experts for the first time today.

Served direct from the Airport’s exhibition stand, the winning curry will be making its debut on the world stage, giving thousands of delegates from across the globe the opportunity to sample the true taste of Birmingham – a city renowned for being the birth place of the Balti.

The Birmingham Airport ‘Hello Curry’ competition was launched back in June, urging local chefs to submit ideas for a signature curry that can represent Birmingham across the world and bring the city to life.

The winning team, led by Head Chef Rashpal Sunner from Five Rivers á La Carte restaurant, cooked a creamy Saag Punjabi served with Makhi di Roti (roti made with chickpea and maize flour) to claim number one spot. Now representatives from the travel industry will be able to try this winning dish for themselves.

The competition saw a high number of entries from all around the city take on the challenge, all bidding to represent the city on the world stage. The competition came to a head at the Birmingham Chilli Festival in July, where the winner was announced following a live cook-off final.

Jo Lloyd, Marketing Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Birmingham is a city famous for it’s world class restaurants, so we asked top chefs from across the region to come up with a signature curry that reflects all that is great about Birmingham.

Personally, I think it's an excellent idea. The smell of food will attract visitors from several stands away and most people like free food. Balti is also synonymous with Birmingham. Yes, also have facts and photos of Birmingham and the regions, but they will only be seen by people already visiting the BHX stand.

It’s the laziest form of marketing... playing into the stereotypical image of Birmingham, it really won’t get people engaged. Yes cultural diversity is a strength for the city and yes you can get a decent curry here but there is so much more on offer! Challenge perceptions, open people’s eyes & minds to what’s happening in Birmingham, get people excited & wanting to be apart of it & not just for a free sample of curry. It’s such a dated Birmingham cliche!

That's a little unfair JennyJet, Birmingham has invested millions over the last 20 years regenerating our canals and they do actually pull in tourists. Brindleplace that was built in the late 90's was built with the canal in mind, so was the Mailbox and the many regeneration projects now going up in the Snowhill part of the city.

A lot of cities have been reopening canals as green spaces in cities. Cardiff is planning to reopen the dock feeder canal along Churchill way inspired by the Hague i believe. So sounds like Birmingham is ahead of the times there!

Some various bits and bobs re BHX.

TUI operated its last 757 schedule yesterday and there are two now on the STS site for decommissioning, are these the last two in the fleet?
Thats the end of scheduled passenger 757 flights for BHX and only the night Fed Express freight service from Manchester to Paris and return on weekdays remains as far as regular 757 operations are concerned.

At least there are two 767-300 on the ground currently a DHL at STS with a Privilege Style also on the ground.

Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of Monarchs sad demise.

Tonight sees EK 37 operate its second rotation since its return last Friday.

STS currently have two 757, two 737 Wedgetail and the DHL 767 on the go busy bees.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
