The need someone (the airport CEO) shouting from the roof tops, responding to the news, release a press statement stating if the new green terminal doesn’t get approved, there are starting plan B asap, two fingers up to the gov and GaLBA. Supporters of the airport need to be more vocal, alto more vocal. It has been poor/ shocking. There is only so much us spectators can do. I hope the airport have got something planned / up there sleeve asap

They’re not Green Freaks, they’re NIMBY’s masquerading as Green Freaks that’s the sad thing and the irony is all they have achieved is in driving the airport to press ahead with the previous plans. Still with an approval for 7m passengers but not in a vastly inferior, eco UNFRIENDLY add on. It’s really quite pathetic.
As for Gove, he should hang his head in shame!

I will believe that when it happens !
I do not think they would get away with that option as I would expect the government to find a way to stop that happening too.
You get what you deserve the whole situation began when the local council sold the airport to private venture capitalists and made a nice amount of money at the time and now have no interest in it.
The land is pretty valuable for lucrative housing and will produce much more money for the council and an Airport in South Yorkshire to service tthe area will be the focus of future expansion.
Its more remote and a much better operational base but useless to me as Manchester is a far better option for my travel needs.
So many people in this area are happy to travel to other airports to save money on flights and as the cheap seat only flights from Lba are no longer available it would seem it looks bleak.

The planning approval has been secured some time ago and was not subject to govt approval as does not impact on the green belt. It is "in the bag".

"we are putting in place measures to make sure we can still meet the anticipated growth of up to 7 million passengers per annum. This will see LBA implement a consent secured in January 2019 for an extension to the existing terminal to provide the airport with an alternative option for growth". (Taken from LBA website)

A300boy, you chatting a lot of rubbish on this reply. Cheap seat flight only? Maybe look at the bigger picture and think why the seats maybe more expensive? Because they’re selling well. Demand is obviously there. Always has been and always will be. DSA is not a suitable replacement for yorkshire. An airport of 1m pax to cater for the whole of yorkshire? I don’t think.

Sorry A300boy, but that's just nonsense. Leeds Council sold the airport because they could never hope to find the funds required to do the infrastructure it needs, and have supported every terminal development planning application despite the NIMBY protests and the pressure brought to bear by the moronic Labour Party MPs. Their official policy is to support the development of the airport.

I am no big fan of the Council but it's time to stop carping about them over the airport . What more do you expect other than granting planning consent fir three separate terminal developments? It's not their doing that none have been built. The failure of the 2009 scheme was down to Bridgepoint Capitals change of heart. The failure so far to build the 2019 scheme is entirely because the owners, AMP, thought they could do even better.

Direct your anger at Michael Gove and the lying NiMBYs known as GALBA, not the Council who granted approval.

I really hope you are correct about this Easy289 !
We all thought the process to build the new terminal was a done deal and were assured every legal challenge had been looked at with care.
but look were we are now.
I do not want this airport to be closed or down graded and I certainly do not want to have a massive housing or industrial estate behind our present home.
I have been telling my neighbour local residents that the land between our houses and the runway belonging to the airport is safe from being built upon whilst the airport is operational because our local Mp told me the council had an agreement with the Airport owners not to sell it or build on it due to its proximity to the main runway which is a safety and environmental issue.
Even the anti-airport locals living on our street could see the sense of assisting the airport to prosper and put up with the noise and pollution some of them say they suffer.
They point out that they have never had any meaningful contact with the airport management but often have anti-airport campaigners and local council officials knocking on the door.
Would seem to me that needs to be on the agenda to try getting people on side.

DSA is far from suitable. Takes over 1 hour and half to get there from Leeds without traffic. Not suitable for the Leeds region.
It’s not just that. Doncaster doesn’t have the space currently to have an operation the size of LBA.

I wonder if Gove thought he'd slip this under the carpet this week while the rest of the ***Please Read Forum Terms of Service***-ups of this govt are taking centre stage and hope no-one noticed. Pillock. To be hoped he never wants to fly into LBA for any future govt business, he might well be linched!!

Did anyone read the Wizz Air promise of 1.5 million seat being provided from DSA next summer ?

Funny how Manchester managed to get funding !
As the local authority over there have maintained an interest in the process the expansion has gone ahead and is impressive with very little opposition.
You are correct the council has done its best but with the local Labour MP and now our Yorkshire Mayor plus some members of the council
playing politics and sitting on the fence the government were very likely to call the application in.
Carping completed !
Whatever happens wont be a problem for me I have time to get anywhere by any means I choose however I feel sorry for the generation that is being let down by our decision makers and all the potential for the young people in our area who could have access to excellent careers in the best Industry in the world.

Well there we have it, you could not make it up, what a total farce although personally i was expecting this! Just who the hell is running this country at present, just what is going off! As if the plandemic was not bad enough now the levelling up transport minister (think this is what idiot gove is) goes and rejects our shiny new eco friendly terminal. Instead we will more than likely have another bit stuck onto the existing 55year old crumbling not fit for purpose terminal, lets face facts here that is what it is, a bit stuck on to the existing terminal. The current terminal cannot cope with the 2019 4.2million pax so the extension would struggle with upto 7million passengers.
An even bigger issue LBA will face is its continuous bad stigma, a totally new terminal at the east end would of propelled LBA into a whole new world with many airlines such as LH no doubt wanting to use the airport, but sorry guys the extension to our current shed wont win it im afraid, you only have to look at all the expansion at other airports in the north with new airlines and routes, yet the 3rd largest city and 4th largest pop area gets nada! There is a reason for this, bad stigma, history, infrastructure and word of mouth, the public laugh at lba. At most with an extension to our shed in my opinion we might see abit more growth from jet2, ryanair etc but nothing more.
I wont be supporting an extension to our current shed of an airport simply du the fact lba deserves a whole new terminal, we should not accept 2nd best! Angry guy here!!

The decision is a joke on so many levels, end of. Whilst I am sure the airport would ideally like its shiny new terminal, I agree it’s time to stick 2 fingers up to GALBA etc. And build the non efficient extension. Not ideal but time to make them look Uber Stupid for objecting and prove their complete lack of intelligence

It may actually pay for the airport to build the extension and hold out for a decision on the new plans. S106 agreements will no longer apply if planning is granted and the airport can sit or it for a further couple of years afterwards to let traffic stableise.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
