I wonder where the DSA based aircraft will be deployed.
Probably MAN, maybe EMA/BHX.
Maybe in future, if we get the terminal sorted and the new stands built, they will have a pair of 737s based here. Possibly MAXs as that will reduce their landing fees at LBA. But that's several years away.
Interesting they appear to be doing Dubrovnik.

I wasn't aware Jet2 dropped Dubrovnik. It seems quite popular these days.

Jet2 dropped Pula from it’s network. Dubrovnik is still available for S23 - I’m booked in to fly there in July with LS.

Of course they did! That's me having a senior moment.

Jet2 DBV S23 is still operating, TUI adding DBV for S23 will be mainly for Cruise sailings, with DBV / DLM / AYT being added, looks like a possible base with CFU & PMI, i would want to see at least a minimum 2 based operation.
Yes. Ignore me. Senior moment. It's Pula they axed.

We all would, but hard to see the terminal (or apron) coping with two more aircraft based here until the extension at least is completed. Time will tell I guess.
After today, I guess announcements from TUi, Wizz and LBA may be around the corner.

I wonder if Tui could get a good deal from HUY.

If they are to base at LBA this time it has to be a robust all year round operation with at least 2 a/c in summer and 1 in the winter.

They need to give their customers the flexible holiday options of 9 and 10 nights rather than the standard 7 or 14 it’s the only way they can compete against Jet2 especially at LBA where they no longer have much of a customer base.

Speculate to accumulate springs to mind…

The terminal is a sore point however, we really should have slapped down a little more concrete by now. I really hope this hasn’t hindered the possibility of gaining more from this albeit sad situation.

I think we also need to be careful what we wish for. This summers ops for TUI from ABZ/NWI/BFS/CWL have been operated by Sunwing often with absolutely horrific delays or aircraft going via other bases on departing to drop off crew members. If we are only picking up 3 new routes from TUI I’d like to see the Turkish flights operated by Freebird/Sun Express. Plus their arrival times into LBA would be in our quieter times of 9-10am or 5-7pm.

I think a base looks more likely, it wouldn't make much sense to operate all 5 routes on W patterns + more favourable times of an AM departure for the cruises. LBA Still have plenty of time to build more stands and as quoted many times before, they will to accommodate more based AC. its a golden opportunity for LBA to pick up new business. they need to make the right moves/calls and get on with any extension to apron/terminal asap.

the W pattern Turkish flights are usually dire flight times, don't sell as well either. getting into turkey at 11pm, not down to the resort until 2/3am, customers don't want that. or getting up at 4/5am in turkey for their early flight back to LBA.

That would require 3 to 4 based aircraft. With such strong opposition as Jet2 it would need to be 3 to 4 to make the base viable, what would be interesting as well is if LBA could persuade them too transfer the long haul flights as well.

Only 1 of the aircraft at CWL is Sunwing, the other 2 are TUI.

Agreed, they need to get on with it ASAP! There’s not much slack on the ramp as it is let alone adding more into the mix.

You also have to presume they will close off stand 10/11 or both to facilitate the construction materials/plant for the extension.

I also think there’s a strange understanding on this group that aircraft parking stands can somehow be constructed quickly like a new driveway, this is complex engineering that will take months to complete.

Fingers crossed the guys at the top are onto this and that LBA don’t miss a huge opportunity to facilitate growth.

LBA have had 2 months notice on this possible closure and could/should of drilled up a contingency plan if all goes to sh!t. they have been saying this for years also so much have some idea/plan in mind when it comes to extra stands. Also worth noting Balkan operated a Thursday BOJ from DSA, be great if we could get that one, timing wise fits into the later afternoon 6pm departure so could be good.

This summers DSA base was;

3 x Tui 737-800’s
1 x leased Gainjet 737-800
1 x leased A320 (not sure of the carrier)

Plus a weekly 787 to Orlando Melbourne.

I really hope LBA get more than a single based unit and that importantly it’s a Tui frame.

Those times suggest non based surely??
I honestly cannot see a TUi base next year, either TUi or Sunwing. I suspect they will see how it goes in their battle with Jet2 next summer, without investing in a base, and whilst LBA develops, and if satisfied, sign a deal for a base once LBA can accommodate both the desired number of aircraft and the additional passengers. Remember also that LBA want more flights in at quieter times, which these times deliver, whilst Swissport too will be hoping for the same.

I expect TUi to use either foreign based carriers, or UK based on W patterns, and I will be surprised too if Wizz don't operate similar to at DSA. The outcome of this would be that LBA would remain at capacity with its based aircraft but become noticeably busier during what currently are quieter times of day. It's a win win. TUi can slowly start to build at LBA and both they and LBA can plan for their expansion in a couple of years.

all could change / hopefully will. TUI PMI/AYT was 7 weekly & DLM was 4, maybe they could be rushing to get something on to get customers transferred on to. who knows

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
