Flybe

Flybe seems a mess from all bases/airports at the moment - not just LBA. constant cancellation from at least 1 line of flying nearly everyday. Luckily LBA has multiple flights/airlines/frequencies for Pax to rebook on. however not ideal. airports like Exeter may just have one rotation all day.

Do hope this benefits EZY as increased flying from them would be my preferred choice!

I flew LBA-Belfast City with Aer Lin Reg on Tuesday morning. The flight was completely full as far as I could see. The Check In desk was
inundated with a long queue stretching back quite some distance and SwissPort rep matters. I joined the queue at 6:30am for the 8:30 departure
and by 7:30 was through Security. The Flybe check in desk was next to the Aer Lingus for BHD and I saw one person come in and presumably check in. At Belfast I saw the Flybe Dash 8 taxi in from Leeds . The Baggage carousel for the Leeds Flight was showing but no-one nearby. My impression is that everyone, including myself preferred the Aer Lingus flight rather than Flybe. Hence I can see why Flybe are reducing their schedule and maybe will be gone all together before long. If they think they can make a go off operating out of Leeds why be in competition with others, better I think to serve Southampton, Newquay, maybe Dusseldorf etc.
LBA on a wet Nov morning was heaving with passengers.

A couple of interesting snippets from t’other forum:
Flybe were apparently 3 aircraft down yesterday. Not great when this basically represents half your current fleet. All the cancellations must be well and truly draining customer confidence.
Also reported that BHD-NCL loads are poor but NCL-LHR regularly getting up to 50. Of course LHR/LON that bit further from NCL than it is LBA so that will help but it does make me wonder if they have lost out in a big way to EI on their BHD routes where they overlap, however good they may have been for Mk1. Going to be an interesting winter ahead for BE I would suggest

Looking at FR24 there's only one flight a day NCL-LHR and thats mid afternoon so I am surprised its so popular.
FR24 also indicates that yesterday's and today's LHR and BHD are cancelled.

Of course we have to believe what we do and I think the aircraft does route BHD-NCL-LHR-NCL-BHD so if they have no available a/c in BHD then LHR is going to get xxld as well. All depends on if the cancellation is poor loads or aircraft down again. Either way it still ain't great for their reputation

With BA operating the route as well, passengers will have the flexibility to mix and match operators.
This flexibility will support increased demand - e.g fly out with BA but the FlyBe may be a better connection on the return or vice versa.
At LBA there was the limitation to using only FlyBe - so if the timing didn’t work for one of the legs then the only other option is to go with an alternate route

Still no interline agreements though, so presumably these are all point to point travellers.

I'm surprised that anyone would really want to use the Flybe LHR-NCL route due to it only been 1x daily and again it lacks any interlining / codeshare connections agreements especially when it's up against a 5x daily British Airways service.

I'll say it again, Flybe at LHR is just a slot sitting exercise. For LBA-LHR to work it needs British Airways.

Regards Flybe I have read they are still fully committed to LBA., But as we know they've got some serious competition on the BHD route directly with Aer Lingus & EasyJet to BFS
If Flybe are really commited surely some new links must be on cards once the fleet is fully operational. Eg Newquay & Southampton?

I can't see them lasting so the less LBA are exposed when they eventually go the better.

And you’d be brave to book with FlyBe on the outbound right now if you were connecting!
Exactly so 50 point to point pax a flight seems very high.

I am not so sure its that unrealistic. As I said its further from LON than LBA, train services unreliable and fares probably quite attractive. Agree likely to be no more than a slot sitter though regardless of how the route actually performs. They are repeating the mistakes of Mk1 with a little bit here and a little bit there rather than focusing on something. I know they have U2 for company now but BHX - EDI and GLA were supposed to be really strong performers for Mk1. Wouldn't that make real sense and also probs BHX-BHD in a bigger way. Stop diluting things and focus on core/key routes. It is perhaps the start of a very slippery slope unless their attitudes change

More bad performance stats for today being reported on the dried fruit forum. This really is not making pleasant reading now and without any doubt must be starting to become very alarming. I really am starting to fear for them after hopeful positivity in Q2 of this year. Cancellation compensation must be costing them an absolute fortune

Another Cancellation on today's only Belfast City - Leeds BE731/732 rotation.

Realistic How long can this carry on, they must be losing punters to Aer Lingus & easyJet.

Ps; the new routes from Newcastle to Belfast & Heathrow routes seem to be struggling too with low pax numbers and cancellations.

I think they’ve already blown all their chances at survival. Route and frequency cuts, cancellations and heavy competition on nearly if not all their routes is a recipe for disaster.

Definitely starting to smack of when not if. The timing of relaunch and subsequent business model just don’t appear to be working. I hope I am wrong in all this but this all has to improve now for the good of everyone involved, otherwise it definitely will be too late - if it isn’t already

As has been said before, this is a slot sitting exercise for Heathrow. The losses are sustainable as long as the slots benefit, outweighs such losses..Its the nature of business. Only those in the know will be able to judge the when and if. But one way or another, I doubt they are here for the long run, as do those running it, I suspect.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
