@Len Fish I agree. It is a very serious subject because it will affect LBA’s potential development. However there is no harm in having some humour along the way. We still all want the same positive outcome for LBA so let’s hope that is forthcoming sooner rather than later to aid LBA expansion

I saw that. It shows how far behind its back LBAs arm is, in terms of a longer night period, far less night movements permitted, and far stricter limits generally. It also shows in my view, as we have seen before, that the anti airport mobs are working in unison to impact airports.

Finally received a response back from the BBC - as expected they backed their reporter and stand by the report. Didn’t really expect any different BUT at least the issue was raised with the Look North Editor so who knows maybe next they may include another side to their report and interestingly they didn’t cover the Cookridge meeting unlike Calendar.

Suppose I will get a similar response to my letter. My view is that an equal amount of time should be given to both sides, rather than 90% to anti-airport types and a 'token' statement from the airport. Ideally the airport would have put a spokesman forward.

Nevertheless, thanks for raising the complaint. The more that do, the mire the BBC will realise that there are lots of people who are not happy with Mr Stokes' anti LBA reporting...and if that's it the case, then they will understand that people are perceiving it that way.

I think there is every chance this will end up in the courts but the clown will try everything at his disposal to disrupt and delay the council decision which he knows is a legal one and not a political one. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I do believe the government made its own judgment on quota count QC 0.25 and that will likely be considered when making a decision.

So he thinks it's their duty to take a decision that's in the best interests of his constituents. I am one and in my opinion granting exemption is the decision I want, but of course he's really only talking about those that oppose he airport, as he does. Not what the majority would want. That's democracy - apparently!

It's actally the Councils duty to give a decision in accordance with planning law and the available evidence, not to suit idiotic MPs who apparently can't get their head around this process.

Interesting he reckons these exemptions would add up to a worse scenario than what he opposed as part of the new terminal package. Perhaps he's now in a panic having claimed victory when that was withdrawn to now find that the situation is potentially better for LBA, worse for him, and he's left explaining how it is that the airport have left him and his buddies looking a bit stupid.

All politicians have to play/appeal to their core supporters, their constituency or Ward party. To be selected/re selected to face the wider electorate they have to win/retain their support. The local party is a small, not necessarily representative, part of their electorate and may hold significantly different views to the wider electorate. However, they hold considerable power and influence over the MP or councillor.

The wider electorate only get their say at an election when the candidate has been selected/re selected by a minority group.

God knows why we in Leeds seem to end up with backward thinking self serving numpties time after time, year after year. It's been a seemingly endless battle for LBA since the early 60s and although it's doing reasonably well, this is despite the lack of support from local councils and this translates into the complete absence of suitable road networks to the airport. The council really don't want good roads to LBA as they know that will bring further growth, and that would never do would it???

He is certainly trying to get the council to ignore the rules, listen to him, and look at data submitted from others that should be inadmissible. As such, in the event of a negative outcome, he's opening the door for an appeal, but seems too stupid to realise it..

Very true and I am sure there will indeed be people out there who genuinely don't wish to see any more night flights from LBA but many will have formed this opinion through misinformation spread by the clown group and their media correspondent working for the BBC. We all know though that if LCC don't play by the rules it will leave the council in a difficult position in the event of potential court case.

I think Mr Sobel is trying to influence due process. He needs to be careful that he doesn’t breach the Parliamentary code of conduct. An example of part of the code:
6.Members have a general duty to act in the interests of the nation as a whole; and a special duty to their constituents.

7.Members should act on all occasions in accordance with the public trust placed in them. They should always behave with probity and integrity, including in their use of public resources.

I think he he is trying to use his position to pressure the council into considering matters not pertinent to the CLEUD review and remit. This could be deemed as undue influence.

If I was one of his constituents I’d be reminding him of his obligations to be objective and not limited, short-sighted and not to mis-use his position.

Just checked and indeed they were! The Conservative Cllr also calls out the group that shouldn’t be named for misinformation and misleading statements. A refreshing change!

In Bradford they can generally speak out without much fear of losing their seat as a result. LBA causes little noise in Bradford apart from a few with sensitive ears in Baildon plus of course the moaners in Burley in Wharfedale and Menston. In Leeds, there are clearly people working the strings of MP and Councillor puppets to.ensyre they oppose the airport. It cannot be coincidence that virtually every MP and Councillor in the vicinity of the airport over the last 30 tears has openly fought to oppose it's development.
