Toronto is served by so many flights a day from LHR & unfortunately most local people are happy and used to travelling to other airports.
The fact is really that even LBA EXT etc all had regular flights to Toronto but the VFR has literally died off.
But surely Toronto is such a massive & growing city & a main economic force there must be enough demand to fly to Brum ?

Im going to go a little rouge and suggest Norwegian 2.0.

BHX has always been a little stark in way of regular and consistent routes to Scandinavia, and with the exception of CPH, many dont seem to last. Yes we have RYR flying ARN at the moment but even that is taking a spring break this year so who knows.

Their UK network so far is:

EDI - OSL/ARN/CPH
MAN - BGO/SVG/OSL/CPH
LGW - TOS/TRD/BGO/SVG/OSL/ARN/HEL/CPH

They have 6 destination in France, 6 in Germany, 4 in Poland so in the event they look for another UK destination, id like to think BHX is in for a shout....

Just a thought.

My wish list for next summer:

Ryanair:
2 weekly-Chania
Daily flights to Madrid and Lisbon
2 weekly flights to Derry

Merely an observation on the 'wish list' discussion.

I spend a lot of my time down here on the Portuguese Algarve, and the the travel and tourist press are talking up the possibility of a new United route to the US. There seems a lot of positivity for an announcement soon.

Maybe there is hope for BHX as well. I am sure the routes team are aware of what is going on elsewhere and will be on the case..

United Newark to Faro was announced last week:

Another wish list, it's fun to look back on and see what happened, what didn't happen and those 'what was I thinking!' moments :)

Air India I'd love to see 10/11 weekly flights. BHX-DEL-ATQ 4x weekly, BHX-ATQ-DEL 3x weekly and BOM 3/4x weekly.

Qatar I think I'd prefer a frequency increase over an aircraft upgrade although I'd take both. Double daily would be ideal to make the most of their connections but would happily take 10/11 weekly to start with.

I'm just glad to see Saudia have started well. The addition of the 4th weekly flight and more usage of the 78X would be nice but I'm happy if they are performing for the next couple of years.

Jet2 I just want to keep doing what they are doing as, for me, they haven't put a foot wrong yet. There are some new destinations rumoured over the next few years so hopefully exciting times ahead.

TUi, short haul I'd like to see Almeria back along with La Palma and Preveza. Long haul we need the return of Goa and Phuket, will we ever see flights to Cuba? Banjul too.

Wizz seem a bit up and down of late but there is obviously room for more away based destinations once the aircraft issues are sorted. Gdansk, Katowice, Iasi and Tirana just to name a few.

easyjet, just too many opportunities to mention. It's very holidays orientated at the moment but the potential for them over the next decade will hopefully be huge. My personal wish is Basel, Gibraltar, Porto, Rome, Madrid, Mykonos, Newquay and La rochelle but it may well just be more sun routes initially.

Ryanair. To study BHX, identify new markets or those in need of more capacity and grow them. The potential is there and I could type a long list of destinations from Riga to Limoges. Hopefully BHX can work with them to go where others have not as they are an airline that can make something out of seemingly nothing.

Eurowings. Stuttgart and Hamburg.

Loganair to NQY if easyjet won't.

NY and Toronto have been done so many times so won't go there but both are needed asap.

I definitely agree about Norwegian. I also flew BHX-AGP with them and the flight was great so I'd take Oslo. Whilst we're there we'll have Finnair to HEL too :)

I'd really like to see Icelandair and Iberia back.

There is another airline that I wanted to mention but I know they are looking at BHX at the moment so won't say anything unless it's confirmed, or lost.

To go with all of that I'd like to see some stands added adjacent to the fire station along with the middle section of the parallel taxiway done to allow more on the ends of the piers. The departure lounge extension needs to follow straight after the security hall is done along with expanding immigration and baggage in T1. Arrivals will also need to be expanded into Trident Road as it can be awful at peak times.

I know I sound like a stuck record and i have made a comment on the EDI thread Re: Iberia, but this airline is a mystery why they don't commit to BHX.

X 3 weekly Ryanair just isn't good enough imho

So come on Iberia, get your Express out and come back to BHX. Don't care if it's not mainline, Express will be fine.

Even if it was an CRJ9 they flew to Birmingham I would respect that

I agree with much of what you wish for, Ray.
With regards to India, i am sure we could do well with additional routes to the large cities of Mumbai, Kolkatta, and Hyderabad, even if only 1 or 2 per week.
Direct links to Pakistan need sorting out too, and likewise Bangladesh.
I also feel there is more scope needed to Switzerland. A scheduled service to Geneva and Basle. Swiss to hopefully increase to twice daily ( I still remember when it was 3 a day on weekdays).
Maybe EasyJet and Ryanair will cover some of this in due course.
Scandinavia still has scope for improvement. Oslo, Bergen and Malmo for example.
Helsinki would be good, with their excellent links to Japan.
We can dream!.

a few more European flag carriers to capital cities would be good for me.

Austrian Airlines to Vienna (again! - no one seems to mention them!)
Finnair to Helsinki
Luxair to Luxembourg
TAP to Lisbon
Icelandair to Reykjavik
Air France to Lyon
Lufhansa to Berlin, Hannover, Hamburg
Lot to Warsaw
ITA to Rome & Milan
SAS to Oslo & Stockholm
Iberia to Madrid
Air Baltic to Riga
Czech Airlines/Smartwings to Prague
Loganair Edinburgh & Glasgow

Daily flights rather than the odd one or two flights a week please! :ROFLMAO:

After Mumbai I've always thought that Ahmedabad may be worth a shout, decent sized community across the East Midlands?

Totally agree but wasn't sure who to suggest.

I remember when they operated to Basel, or was it Crossair back then?

Lufhansa to Berlin, Hannover, Hamburg

I still remember Lufthansa operating Berlin on an A319. They announced an upgrade to an A320 but pulled the route before it happened.

I'd maybe go a little further with that one and add the likes of Egyptair, Kuwait and Gulf Air, certainly in the medium term?

Forget Air Baltic as they have pruned their schedules back and that is why they have so many aircraft available for likes of SAS and Swiss to operate

I have a different wish which is I hope PIA do not restart at BHX at least in the next year or two. I know that this is not the idea of this thread to want a service not to start so here is my slightly left of centre thinking.

Currently BHX is unbelievablely well served going east with many worldwide destinations with pretty seemless connections including the sub continent.
I would much rather see Saudi established and build up frequency, Qatar go to ten weekly and Emirates either double daily A380 or even a morning 777 added.
Meanwhile Turkish have just increased capacity with A321s double daily with good connection to Pakistan. Air India of course are the longest servicing airline to the region and the addition of Mumbai would be great. I don't want PIA to impacts on the success or these services.

All of the above have good reputations for reliability and service(Air Indiaquestionable) which PIA have never had never mind the reason they are banned flying to Europe.

Would welcome othe members opinions, constructive I hope 😃

Meanwhile my more positive wish almost certainly in vain is NYC given the fact that United, American and Jet Blue all have major hubs and its not as if New York is not a destination in itself.

P.S. Iberia Express to Madrid would be good.

Good evening everyone.
I’ve started a page on X called Bhx updates which I am running.I know their is a page called Hello BHX and if the owner of that page on here please don’t think otherwise.
As I am continuing to explore work for myself beneficially I thought it would be good to get some followers and give people up to date changes across the bhx and its schedule.
I'd appreciate a follow if anyone wants to not forcing you to.😃⬇️
Cheers everyone for following me
Here’s my predictions on my page on X

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
