In fairness I think what Yorkie meant was just get on with it..Joe Public really won`t notice 50p increase, until of course you bring it to their attention!!...Such being the nature of the beast.
Not how I read it. Perhaps LBAYorkie would like to clarify what he meant as it can be better interpreted two ways.

Is £6.50 that much? 2 coffees ! I waited to pay at my local petrol station the other day and a few school kids were in front of me buying sweets, drinks etc. The lad in front spent nearly £6.50 on these things so is £6.50 a great expense to pick up or drop off someone ? There is the free 1 hour parking if needed. Edinburgh is £5. A friend asked me to pick up his friend from the airport a few weeks ago and gave me £10. No it is only £5 I said. Oh really he replied, somewhat surprised.

If the airport are going to incite negative feedback they may as well put it up by £1.50 as 50p. Get it over with.

So we are looking at 200million been pumped into LBA over the coming years, just out of interest does anyone know how much income the current £6 parking fee brings into the airport per year and what would this be percentage wise based on total income? Anyone have figures on this? I guess you would then roughly find out what the 50p increase would give the airport.
LBA total pax currently is 4m, as a rough guess lets say 1m motor vehicles use the drop off over the year(reasonable figure) then that would be £6million i believe?

A quick look at the last accounts (companies house) shows car parking income is not detailed.
It does however show that the highest paid director ( I presume the CEO) received a pay increase which almost doubled their income (pay and benefits) from £299,000 to £542,000! So it's hard to swallow an increase to car parking charges when some of that money is squandered on such huge increases.

The most lucrative income stream related to parking at LBA must come from the incessant double red line stoppers.
Its not actually anything to do with the airport. The council issue the fines and retain the income therefrom.

Partially true. Sure, thats how it works on the highway. But on airport land it's managed by a private contract company. eg, the double reds near the pass office and security gate are on airport land, not council. As is the approach to the drop off car parks etc.

Yes true, but the vast majority of illegal drop offs occur in Whitehouse Lane, so all the significant fine money goes to the council. LBA make peanuts out of the rest in comparison especially after paying the private contractors for their services. By far, LBA make most of their money from car parking and the leasing charges paid by the various companies operating within the terminal.

So if it’s council owned land with red lines it’s a a fine under the Road Traffic Act and enforceable in the courts but if it’s on the airport land it’s a civil matter and a civil debt? Is that correct?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
