Most Ryanair passengers don't actually check in at the airport. Many travel with minimal handluggage and proceed directly to security. Those who don't generally need only a baggage drop facility. So a vast space should not be required for this.

As for moving T3 security procedures and check-in to the vacated T1 space ... yes please! This would allow for considerable currently-occupied T3 floor space to be repurposed for expansion of airside facilities. That is sorely needed, and the sooner it can happen the better. I hope that the Pier B gates are annexed to T3 as well, allowing breathing room for Ryanair Group expansion. Their potential growth is strangled in T3 as it is currently formatted.

Yes, the duty free in T1 will stay increasing room in T3 where duty free currently is.

Yes, I agree ref most passengers with Ryanair won’t have luggage, I’m just surprised the T1 check in area will be used for this.
Ironically the past two times I have flown with Ryanair I had a case to check in and despite not that many passengers at the check in area in T3, there clearly weren’t enough staff on hand as I was queuing for about 20 mins each time! But then that’s down to Swissport!

Indeed, roll on the extension of the T3 departure area!
I was there on Monday afternoon and it was rammed! I am not looking forward to using it during the peak summer period!

I generally head directly for the upstairs seating area when using T3. Great views, pleasant environment, convenient departure screen. And I've never had a problem finding a seat up there.

Thanks for the info and welcome to the forum!

Although (if true), this would surprise me as MAG had already announced they would be closing the original structure of T1 (which includes the check in and security areas) and they would using another area of T1 to relocate the T3 security area.
Not sure if the easyJet area of T1 check in would be big enough for Ryanair…

Excellent information and thank you for sharing.

Just one question how will domestic passengers be processed? Am I right in thinking the they will all have moved to T2?

Summer 25

Thanks a lot for this information.
It will be interesting what is made of the current check in areas and security in T3…hopefully more seating!

I do hope the immigration and baggage halls within T3 are extended and refurbished.

Same as today in T3 I would imagine.
Ryanair fly to and from Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Derry and Kerry and certain gates/stands are allocated to these flights which have domestic arrival corridor’s straight into the baggage reclaim hall.

I just hope that stupid set up they have today for gate 141 is sorted out! The gate area is not big enough for a Ryanair flight and when passengers are boarding that flight, other passengers within the corridor going to the departure lounge always have to wait until boarding is completed!

Many thanks for the information. Two things strike me, one of which has already been referred to by LS@MAN - the desirable creation of more space in T3 with departing passengers being processed in T1.

The other point is that there is no specific reference to T3 flights using Pier B of T1 as remote stands. If they do, would pax still have to go along the southern front to T3 and then be bused back to the T1 stands?

Ref Pier B for aircraft parking, this was my thought too, but I was unsure if the actual gate areas inside Pier B would be used too…I mean where are the gate areas/space in the current T3 to board passengers over to the waiting aircraft…

If Ryanair are to expand, more stands/gates allocated to T3 are needed, I notice some aircraft overnight outside the STS hanger which is a trek from T3!
But hopefully we should hear some news officially from MAG over the course of 2024…

Lots of interesting gossip to catch up on thank you.

I’ve been AWOL this week, and I’ve brought back quite a lot of transformation works photos from my travels that I’ll post when I’m properly awake :)

As promised, some TP photos from last week:

Legacy check in:

Pier 2:

Stairs and hopefully a few escalators:

legacy bag reclaim:

legacy landside arrivals:

More TP:

Legacy check in including temporary desks:

Currently stranded gate bridge :

An attempt to show the length of pier 2. Standing at the end of pier 1 it’s doesn’t appear to be that much longer.

IMG-0296.jpg

Pier 2 with bracing beams suggesting this will be the end:

IMG-0313.jpg

The stairs lifts thing (vertical circulation structure I believe to be posh):

Legacy arrivals landside:

IMG-2070.jpg

Also of note it appears the service yard at the south east end of the legacy building is being used for works access. Big hole cut in the side and roof and serviced by stairs and goods lifts in a lot of scaffolding.

Legacy airside arrivals corridor works:

Manchester, why did you go cheap and not give us travelators? Big sigh:

Thanks for the update and great photo’s @marni1971
What is the separate structure adjacent to pier 2?
The length of pier 2 should be the same as pier 1, but from the photo’s the width seems bigger? Maybe not a true reflection to the eye via photo’s but it would be welcome, considering this is the pier that will house two A380 stands.

Thank you. Pier 2 is meant to be “full length” but it’s unclear if this means longer then the originally planned stub pier or taking up all the available space (pier one stops short). If anything it might be one or two sets of steel supports longer than pier 1.

The separate structure appears to be one of the bridges from pier to airbridge, but it is quite a distance from the future pier. Maybe it’s different if it’s going to have 2 air bridges or service 2 gates?

I was thinking this separate structure maybe the bridge from terminal to pier which will be moved into place later. This could avoid too much disruption to roadway/bussing operation.

From the last set of images posted by MAG, it looks like there are going to be 4 new remote stands to the south of pier 2….maybe for the smaller aircraft operating domestic flights e.g. Aer Lingus ATR, Loganair etc…

Good call. Currently it looks like it has “real” supports but it also does have one yellow temporary support on the end.
I'll have to check but did hear something about another bridge for contractors to get "on site" being erected.

They have a bridge they cross at moment bit of an eyesore, low, covered above in barbed wire

I recall seeing a photo of that bridge. Did look a bit heath robinson! Though this thing in question is almost certainly a part of the pier.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
