the tube refuses to recognise the closure of T1 tho :)

I see that the scenario at Manchester differs from Heathrow because:

1. The plan at MAN is to expend time and money deliberately rebadging T1 departures as T3 and thus purposefully rendering T1 redundant whilst concurrently preserving T3 (whereas LHR presently has no T1 because it was closed without replacement).

2. When passengers arrive (to depart!) at MAN under the new arrangement, their point of drop off will be what millions of regular passengers have long considered to be ‘Terminal 1’. It seems strange to me to intentionally introduce potential confusion at such a time-sensitive moment.

I’m sure there’s a good reason they’re doing this but it seems very odd to me!

I reckon it's to increase the capacity of Terminal 3 so that Ryanair can expand. If arrivals and departures effectively have their own terminal, the capacity can be increased.

It also allows T3 departure lounge to expand into the current landside area if they wanted to. It will be confusing for sure to most people, especially to begin with.

So here's what I believe is the latest full mock-up of a completed MANTP.

A couple of points:

1 - Pier 2 appers to have 2x A380 contact stands (future stands 306 and 310). Both 'nodes' feature double airbridges.

2 - Most boarding 'nodes' feature two airbridges. Seeing as the stands have been advertised as allowing for 'flexibility', does anybody know whether one node will be able to service two narrowbody aircraft at the same time? Obviously the current arrangement in pier 1 is not this - one node = one aircraft. To see what I mean, look at the mock-up of the 2x A321s parked near the number '4' at the end of the pier (on stands 311L and 311R).

3 - Stands 201-208 will remain in use after the second pier is completed, and hopefully are refurbished.

4 - The most interesting point in my opinion. Check out T1 C pier! Not demolished - in fact the opposite. Aircraft still using those stands and with bridges attached. I wonder if this is just a mistake or wether - as I suspect - T1 will be staying open for longer than anticipated. I do find it difficult to see where MAN will find the capacity to replace the closure of T1 AND allow for significant growth.

5 - 6x remote stand opposite the current 200s. Hard to tell if these are the current stands 231/233/235/80/81/82 or wether they will be new built.

Any idea of domestic arrival capability in T2? I know Aurigny are supposed to be moving over from T3 starting in October. The only non-airbridge stand planned for T2 Pier B is stand 315, right at the end of the pier (similar to 201) and I doubt it will be in use by October. So any idea how will that be managed or if there'll be a domestic arrival route by then?

Your image looks remarkably similar one in my post #1305 from 2023!!

When is dual taxiway going to come into operation? So many remote stands will be lost and I believe the satalliate at end of Pier C will have to be closed to allow for passing aircraft? Once Pier 2 is open1 I cannot see how how all operations of Terminal 1 can move to T2. Where are all easyjet aircraft going to stand? Maybe in 50 years piers 3 and 4 will be constructed to allow for complete demolition of T1?

When it’s finished! Works are still ongoing especially in the area west of pier B. The satellite on C isn’t in the way of it - only the mythical pier 4. But yes, 62-72 are going to be lost to it.

EasyJet are supposedly moving to T2 in the autumn of 2025.
Once Pier 2 opens, there will be 13 contacts stands. So out of the 10 to be lost due to the new dual taxiway, there will be 13 new stands on pier 2.

11 lost 👋. I think more importantly it’s 11 remote / overnight stands. We’ve seen the proposals for remote parking between pier 2 and pier C but I can’t help thinking that within a few years we’ll be seeing lack of physical room for parking aircraft without something else happening. And then should they decide that pier 3 is a good idea and that they can afford it….

If I’ve got my numbers right there’s currently 6 legacy contact gates available, 7 if 205 is reinstated (but with the classic narrow/wide body clash). Say pier 3 would add 11/12/13 more contact gates or a net gain of 5/6/7 gates. You can see the accounting logic for not spending money to add a small amount of contact gates but if they need them in the future then the option is available, but at the loss of more remotes.

Pier 2 will have contact stands. Will there be enough non contact stands for Easyjet? Also Where will props go? With loss of all overnight stands for dual taxiway, where will new stands be created? Could Pier 3 be constructed without any impact to Pier C? Also realistically will T1 be demolished Inc old towers? Can't see it ever happening!?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
