Pier B will be rebuilt and integrated to T3. Pier C most likely retained and linked to T2. Pier 3 and 4 unlikely ever build, certainly not in next few years! Old T1 building likely to be become mothballed until demolition in 50 years time!!

Are you stating just your assumption(s) here or will MAG officially be announcing such projects in the near future?

We need a definite answer ref the future of the T1 building and both piers ASAP!

I think we know. Retaining Pier C and linking it to T2 is about as cost effective as building pier 3. MAG has already stated the future plans for half of the T1 terminal building too.

Pier C can hold as many as 7 x 747 size aircraft ludicrous to demolish and replace with the same in essence. Some new airbridges would be good. Hope to see demolition of 60s tower building and old operations tower. Why taking so long to build echo taxiway across grass between Pier B and C, seems to have lasted years!? Dual apron taxiway system needs to hurry along!!!

It’s also a 300 metre walk from gate 202 to it, is 50 years old, enforced segregation on its single level has made it an operational disaster for wide bodies let alone day to day operations, toilets are down at ground level, airbridges are shot….

Connecting T2 to it and bringing it up to any modern standard (let alone the segregation issue) and you may as well spend the same money on pier 3.

Modern airports in Europe do away with old infrastructure. Both old towers are an eyesore and need to come down. Pier C served well for 50 years, can last another 50!!

No point having Pier 3, current gates on original T2 are sufficient. Make do and mend until funds allow!

Have you used pier C recently?

I’m not sure about seven X747 size aircraft?!
Hopefully demolishing the old towers will happen in the long term, but as long as the T1 structure is open, it won’t happen.

The part or the new dual Taxiway system between the grass area located between pier B and the hangers hasn’t been going on for years. This only started earlier this year!
The dual taxiway system is a phased project as per the overall MAN TP and will be fully operational by next summer upon completion of the overall project.

Please be patient and give an understanding to the works that are ongoing to improve the future experience of the airport.

Need to be patient, just enthusiastic about a great finish! I thought 7 x double airbridges on Pier C, might be wrong though? Anyone got any apron shots from top of multistorey of taxiway works and Pier 2 progess?

Stand 22 has double airbridges but given the close proximity to buildings and roads the max size normally is a 757/767.

There are plenty of apron shots on social media such as Instagram. It is progressing quite quickly…

I believe MAG are waiting for interest rates to come down before making any decision on T2 and T3 future developments. In the U.S airlines like Delta and United put money up for big airport infrastructure projects. But in the U.K that doesn’t really happen. I think MAG should put all there focus into T2 find a way to get the money for the two additional piers after all a lot of wide body aircraft use T2. Then shift focus to T3 where Ryanair will be based so a ULCC terminal.

I don’t think keeping any part of T1 is a good idea it’s had its day. Kind of ironic Ryanair is now the largest airline at T3 considering it was BA old terminal. T3 just needs a new layout a lot of bottle necks and it needs a new security hall.

Before anything else, MAN requires an apron extension to accommodate additional aircraft stands. Piers and buildings can come later. Apron space has to be top priority now.

The T1 airside space is still needed in the medium term (even if rebranded as T3). If MAG were to contemplate using Piers B and C as remote parking stands with passengers processed through T2, they will need more buses and drivers than Stagecoach.

Well said and couldn’t agree more!
It would be madness not to use the current T1 airside areas where the shops, bars and restaurants are today as an expanded T3.
The focus also needs to be on how to expand the current T3 departure areas once the check in and security areas there have closed.

So retrograde if bussing passengers to T1 stands. Just keep T1 until afford to build Pier 3 and 4, then knock it all down. If they can't afford, integrate Pier C and link Pier B to T3. Totally agree apron stands are a priority, very overcrowded, especially when dual taxiway comes into operation! Wish T2 was expanded via original plan, extension to western Pier and remote satalliate built in front of T2. Can't help but think airport loosing stands left right and centre!

It's interesting that so many airlines will be moving to T2 in the next two months. I'm an exile who can't actually see the status of the transformation project, but my understanding is that no new terminal infrastructure will be open by those dates. I believe the new check-in hall and pier won't open until well into 2025. So will the T2 facilities be able to cope with the additional traffic? Granted it will be winter with a sharp reduction in passenger numbers, but things may still be a little stretched.
On another note, any news on when the transformation project will be complete? I've just booked flights on Emirates, arriving in Manchester on 2nd May 2025 and departing in mid-June. I can't decide if I want one last look at Terminal 1 Pier B, or my first look at the new facility!

Given the reduction in flights from the airlines for the winter season, therefore less Jet2 and TUI aircraft in T2 and less passengers, I’m sure there will be room.
No doubt the management team and planners have done their research and are confident enough to ensure there is no or little disruption.

There is a phase opening approach, with sections of the refurbished T2 opening in stages between end of this year and next summer. Pier 2 will also become operational in phases between April and June/July 2025.
The new dual taxiway work I would imagine will coincide with the completion of the TP next summer.

Does anyone know what's happening with the space Virgin just gave up for the lounge in T2. I was shocked when someone told me that they had scrapped their clubhouse I guess their finances are in a mess.

Rather interesting BBC Northwest i-player report on airport, lasts about 20 mins. Showcases T2 transformation and responds to flawed Which Report. Very impressive drone footage, shows extent Pier 2 and dual taxiway work. You can tell probably only another 10 months work or so left. Well worth watching. No doubt further developments will continue following end of T2 rebuild

I’m aboard at the moment so unable to watch the iplayer video, so will watch when I return to the UK.

I’ve been listening to the airport podcasts recently which have stated there will be a phased opening of both the refurbished T2 and new pier between April and next summer.
The CEO has been quoted as saying there will be a pause between the TP completion and T3 improvements. So maybe post summer 2025 we should start to see T3 getting some TLC…

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
