Pier 3 would likely be able to accommodate a higher density. There’s 8 legacy stands, a full length pier 3 with appropriate gates could handle 14-16 medium bodies at once (using pier 1s west side as an example)

Like everything it’s down to money but the fact the legacy gates aren’t being refurbished may be a pointer.
They will have to ensure cargo shed remotes are available if they build Pier 3. Disruption will be big during at least 2 to 3 years of construction!

Just having look round for a MAG Plc business plan. I can only find the 2030 version. Time for a new plan...

Shocking how many of the pics are of demised aircraft, airlines or routes. A lot changes in this industry!

I'd heard murmurings of a "November fully operational" date.
Opening September onwards,

New Taxiway November-Bravo planned to open on the 15th May, will serve the southern side of the new pier. Will also have blue and orange lines. Likewise, November Alpha planned to get the blue & orange lines on the same day. Will allow 2 code C aircraft to pass each other. The current November Bravo will become November Charlie & November Charlie becomes November Delta. This will result in the removal of stands 82L/R/81L/235/237 from that date.

Stand 305 is now open and in use, stand 108 will shortly follow (108 has not been used since pier 1 was opened 6 years ago).

The pier itself is planned to become airside in July, currently it’s a landside ‘enclave’.

Over at T3, Stand 47 is in the process of being re-configured to allow a Code C aircraft (Currently max 319/737). This should be complete mid May.

Route down to D gates now takes pax through the new T2 East Security as of this week.

Many thanks as always for your informative updates.

Is it still planned for legacy T2 to open in phases from this month? Shame pier 2 is delayed but these things happen.

Wow I didn’t know stand 108 has never been used! Good that it soon will be though!

Concerning the other planned T3 stand reconfigurations, will stands 16 and 17 be done before Ryanair move to T1 departures and base more aircraft at MAN?

If you count T2 East Security then indeed it will start opening from later this month. The original T2 Baggage reclaim has now re-opened (Belts 2/3/4); 1 & 5 are still behind hoardings. The baggage reclaim hall is in its original condition. The departure lounge is planned to open late May onwards in phases.

Over at T3, very little planned bar the removal of a couple of airbridges through the summer. The old BA lounge and more recently 'additional seating' is shortly due to close for terminal reconfigurations. With BA & LM to move to T2 in coming months this will also free up more stands. As noted above, 47 will also be capable of taking up to 7M8 ac.

North Road access point will also close later this month to be re-built albeit further back extending the airside area slightly.

Thanks again for the info.

Disappointing ref the baggage reclaim in its original condition minus the new belts!
This is meant to be a refurbishment! Has the money suddenly dried up or something!

That’s not a question for you to answer, just a statement on my part and a frustrating one at that given it seems phase 2 has really had the penny pinchers out and about!

Well T3 is in desperate need of extra capacity, I only hope they have plans behind the scenes as even now it can be busy at times with little or no seating available, so come the summer it’s an absolute nightmare!

MAN social media showing clips of east security (saw it on Facebook)

An awkward portrait shot video so here’s some key moments

Will there be any new lounges once the remainder of T2 has opened? With BA and others moving across soon, I can see the current Escape and 1903 lounge gettting very full. They are busy enough as it is.

There’s still the unused shell of the Virgin longe up for grabs IIRC. Emirates will have their own on pier 2.

There was talk of a OneWorld lounge about 12 months ago. I was hoping Virgin would u turn on their decision as there was a lot of backlash from Flying Club Gold and Upper Class passengers who use Manchester regularly.

I think there’s justification for both a oneworld and a star alliance lounge in T2, sure there should be space for them both anyway.

Winged Words May edition Pier 2 markings. No sign of western apron remotes stands removal though!

Can I purchase this online?
There has to be eventually as the new dual taxiway system relies on these stands being removed. Although maybe it’s now post summer 2025 ref the delay to phase 2 in general…

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
