Some retain KLM mainline, and some, such as Exeter, new to the KLM network, now have a Cityhpper only service on an E190. It could be argued that KLM have favoured Exeter therefore, over LBA,.a route that's long established and well proven.
It is disappointing and yes as someone who booked a flight with KLM it does feel like a downgrade but it is better than no service at all or like Cardiff having frequency cut. KLM are obviously struggling and I'd expect mainline is stretched as well.

The cause of the problem is retaining staff at KLC as people move up to mainline they can’t replace them. This is compounded by the engine issues that have occurred on some of the fleet. Not only this but they closed their crew bases in the U.K. over a decade ago and to maintain frequency have had to HOTAC crew daily across the network. Then there is the general decline in business travel after Covid and it’s a perfect storm to start causing problems.

I too am disappointed to no longer see the reassuring blue livery at HUY any more, but I’d much rather Eastern be running it than nobody at all. As I’ve posted before the performance of the HUY has been largely the same if not better than when KLC operated it.

As for future planning, this is a case of six of one half dozen other. Eastern could have been more preemptive, but where do you find all those ejet rated captains and training captains in the UK?

Yep the only e jet operator with a significant fleet in the UK is BA Cityflyer going to be hard to attract pilots from them. The Embraer is an excellent aircraft but its not as common as an A320 or 737 series and I'd imagine pilot's of those would potentially see it as a downgrade so yeah it would be challenging to find pilots but if Eastern get it right it could mean they provide a niche capability that other ACMI airlines can't provide.

We could talk what ifs, like what if Flybe had only just folded or what if Eastern had taken them off Flybe’s hands with ready made flight crew.. But the reason Flybe went to the wall is the same reason Eastern have been struggling and to be honest this KLM is highly lucrative unlike other things Eastern have gotten involved with in recent years in their own race for survival!

It’s just a shame that the MD is a ruthless operator who appears to only see the short term, but I could be wrong (hope I am!). However got to be ruthless especially at the bottom end of the U.K. airline market, plenty of casualties to use as an example to show why.

Nobody is wishing that but the fact is that KLM have selected Eastern to operate our flights. An airline with a poor reputation which is well earned over time. Not all airports have been selected in this way. Some retain KLM mainline, and some, such as Exeter, new to the KLM network, now have a Cityhpper only service on an E190. KLM operate to 18x UK airports, every single one of those see KLM Cityhopper operating, with 7x airports seeing mainline operating as well (LHR, MAN, BHX, NCL, EDI, GLA & ABZ). Each week, Eastern will be operating to 10x UK airports, with bases in BRS, LBA, HUY and MME making it unlikely that there's any favouritism going on.
As @pug has mentioned, Eastern have been running a good operation operating for KLC. At BRS they operate 2of4 flights per day, with German Airways operating 1of4 and KLC 1of4. , Over the last month at BRS, Eastern has had very little disruption with only one cancelation, and only one flight running more than 1.5hrs late. KLC has in fact been much less reliable with a fair number of delays.
I think it's far too early to be judging the operation out of LBA yet given its been only a couple of days

Rumours that T3 have filed for administration this morning, no official announcement yet but Aircraft Movements per FR24 and lack of scheduled operations would suggest something is indeed up.

Puts paid to any LBA return or expansion by them if true.
Its reported by The Sun (online) that unless they can fix their problems within 10 days, they will appoint an administrator . Some of those days have already passed. So its not looking great when you look at all that's happening.

Looks like MOL was right about some airlines are going to struggle to get through winter….

Doesnt look like Eastern will make it beyond October unless they find a buyer in the next couple of days. All flights cancelled according to reports. The footy teams are going to struggle to find enough aircraft available to fly them to matches without Eastern.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
